The waitresses were very friendly. They made sure that we understood how to order since it was our first time there. The food was outstanding, especially their spinach or artichoke dip for appetizer. The chocolate fondue is to die for. I would definitely go back again.

Pros: food's great

Cons: no parking

before going to this restaurant, i read a review that warned diners to only go with people they enjoyed spending time with. after a 3 hour dining experience, i am glad that i took that advice. service was friendly and satisfactory. they clearly explained everything that went into fondue, and came quickly when we had problems or questions. food takes a long time to cook though, leaving a lot of lull time that is best filled with conversation.

i wouldn't recommend this place for a first date, but if you're going with a group of friends, it's a great way to unwind and enjoy each other's company

My son LOVES this restaurant and has since it's opening. The food is excellent, especially the fondue (of course) and the Teriyaki steak. But ... it is extremely expensive. They make it seem like ordering a combination dinner (appetizer, entree, dessert for one price) is a good deal but it's not. Order separately!

After reading some of the reviews on this place I can tell its definitely not for everyone, but I have been here multiple times and have ALWAYS received GREAT service and food. A little pricey, but you have to remember you are paying for the experience, don't forget to bring some extra $$ for your server, because they work their butts off!! I would recommend this restaurant for couples because of its romantic atmosphere.

I had a group experience at the Melting Pot, it was myself and 5 other people. The food was good, the experience was nice. The bill was CRAZY! I always expect to pay a lot more when I go to Center City, but, this was a lot more then I expected. It seemed to me the liquor was way over priced. This is a good one time a year type place, nothing I would do on a monthly basis.

My one and only experience at The Melting Pot was a birthday gathering. I assume it was because of our somewhat large (8) party that we, too, got shoved into that corner table like the previous reviewer - I'm assuming it's the same table. Our waitress was very helpful and courteous. The service is what I expected at a more upper-crust establishment, so no complaints there. My complaint mainly has to do with the fare itself, namely the wine, beer and other spirits and liquers. It is VERY overpowering. So much so that I gave up about two bites into the appetizer and changed my main entree choice to the bullion (had originally chosen coq au vin). The dinner, cooked in the bullion, was somewhat bland but was acceptable. The dessert wasn't anything to write home about. They do, however, offer a nice selection of iced teas. Overall, I was underwhelmed and most likely will not be returning.

We got put in the corner of the dining room where we had no interaction with anyone else in the entire restarant and no view of anything that was going on. Honestly the could have put our table in the bathroom and their would have been no difference. The food was absolutely discusting, who wants to eat cheese overpowered with nasty cheap sherry wine, or a ceasar salad that tastes like they poured sugar on top of it? Not to mention the fact of our entrees being so cross contaminated with the meat on top of the chicken, or even the shrimp on top of the meat, all being in the raw state. Then they gave us a pot of court bouillion which wasn't even a tradition court bouillion because it was smothered in red wine, in which case your told to boil your meat. I dont know who boils meat, but if this is the way you want to eat this is the place to go. I didnt even order desert i was so discusted with this trashy place.

The melting pot is amazing! The prices are a little high, but it is totally worth it. They have four course dinners (for couples) that will cost upwards of 80$, depending on whether or not you order drinks. It great jst to go for dessert too. I'd highly recommend it!

I think this is a great novelty restaurant. The first time you go there is a lot of explaination; but if you ever go again- it makes a lot more sense. The staff is always looking to please and offers you lots of extras if you ask for them. That goes for the dippers during the cheese and dessert!! wahoo. I think anyone who goes there should of course know what type of restaurant it is. You do cook the dinner yourself, and use the sauces yourself. If that is not your style- don't go there. I can understand if you wouldn't like doing 'work' but don't bash the whole concept. I like mixing it up sometimes and think it's awesome!

It's not the raw food per se...its the overly perky Applebee's type wait staff, the poor presentation, the plastic jar of Garlic/Wine powder placed at your table, the dipping sauces, and the quality of the food that is the problem.\r
\r
The place looks nice so thats a bonus, it smelled bad thats not so good. Lets start with the first course. The fondue is mixed by your perky waitress at the table, she was no chef! She stirred and stirred with her little fork (I felt bad). The raw garlic overpowered the cheese fondue, and the fondue was grainy. They gave you stale bread cubes (at least get some quality bread please), a couple of baby carrots, a couple of pieces of califlower, 2 chunks of celery, and some granny smith apple. All in crappy little bowls. \r
\r
The salad was a small salad mix from a bag with a couple of unflavorful roma tomato slices, a few specks of goat cheese, couple of walnuts (all in all the best part of the meal, sad to say) but then they topped it off with bottled rasberry vineagrette. I was surprised they didn't hawk the dressing to buy and take home.\r
\r
Next, the main course. The waitress was nice enough to substitute out the beef and replace with salmon and mahi mahi. Now I got no problem with raw fish. I eat sushi and sashimi all the time, what I have a problem with is poor quality. I wouldn't eat anything presented to me raw (and your not supposed to, but that is a reasonable quality test). The shrimp were small, the fish was nondescipt, the lobster small and coated with some reddish powder, the salmon greyish. We picked the seasoned broth. I have had better boiled seafood at home and nicer bigger shrimp from Costco.\r
\r
The evening was not a total loss. I complained, the manager was apologetic and stated that ""it's"" not for everybody. She waived the entire bill, I gave the perky server a $20. We never made it to dessert, I suggest you never make it to Filbert St!!

Cons: the FOOD dummy

Hey MizMelissa,\r
First of all, when you are writing a review...LEARN HOW TO SPELL!!!..\r
I agree with DestinyChild...That place is horrible and over priced \r
The Definition of FONDUE is quote: \r
""food dipped into a container: a dish eaten by dipping small pieces of food into the contents of a container usually melted cheese, hot oil, or a sauce, placed on the table"" .....It doesn't say it has to be RAW food that needs to be cooked..And as for culture or knowledge of foods.. Different strokes for different folks.. Get a Grip!!!\r
That's the whole point of going out to dinner, so you won't have to COOK your own food!!!!!...

destinychild...wow you sound like the biggest idiot on the planet. It is a FONDU restaurant. Did you really think your food was going to come out cooked. The point of fondu is that you cook it yourself! The meltingpot is awsome. Its fun and they have an amazing wine list. I feel sorry for this location for getting a bad rep all because of the stupidity of someone who obviously has no culture or knowlage of food. ok, why dont you go to maggiannos for some non authentic crappy food. and stay there.

This was the worst dining experience ever.... We started out with being shown to the bar, while we waited for a table.. the hostess was pretty nice and the staff was friendly. We waited for about 20 minutes, enough to have a couple of Martinis' which surprisingly were pretty good. Well at $10.00 a pop, they should be.\r
The first entree was a cheddar cheese with a Beer base, which was pretty yucky, wine would of been better.. the dippers were chunked apples, celerey, carrots& califlower, not my favorite fruit nor any of my favorite veggies, the bread was hard & crusty... I guess so the cheese wouldn't fall off while you dip it.. \r
The next entree was salad, in which the lettuce was pretty limp and wilted, dressing not very good..\r
The main course came, which to my surprise was raw and uncooked.. I ordered the shrimp & sirlion and my husband ordered the sirlion.. HELLO, haven't you heard of salmonella...We had to dip our raw meat and shrimp into the same Fondue so that it would cook. Which the fondue took forever to heat up. We had to guess as to how long this meat was going to take to cook in boiling water...The waitress told us 1 minute to 2 for well done.. That was questionable.\r
My husband does not like seafood, so I had to wait until he cooked his sirloin first, before I could cook my shrimp, which took forever.\r
His sirlion came out, with a grayish color and the fondue seasoning was not good, boiled water and garlic with herbs... forget about taking home a doggy bag\r
I think they need to cook the food and bring it to the table and then you can have the option of dipping your chunked entree's into the Fondue mixture\r
Finally the dessert came ..The dessert was left to be desired,,, the pinapple was canned, marshmellows is not something I enjoy as an adult for desert. Strawberry's were ok\r
All in all , it was a bad experience...... too overpriced..\r
Don't waste your money...\r

it is what it is here. The fondue was delicious, the ""entree"" was just so-so. I call it an ""entree"" because they give you raw meat to cook yourself in a boiling-pot of water/wine/spices.\r
\r
There is no revolution here. But it was fun. I'd go back, especially if I was in a bigger group. Service was pretty solid.\r
\r
The wine list is amazingly not over-priced! Huge list (warning: I ordered a bottle, didn't have. Ordered another, same thing. I eventually got my FOURTH selection) But I imagine it's a chain wide list since it's so huge so maybe they don't aor can't stock them all. Still, fair pricing.\r
\r
Edited to add: I should also note that it could be impossible to get a bad table here. All the tables it seemed, were secluded from one another. Very romantic and comfortable.
