My wife and I were married by Father Choo on September 7, 1976 in one of the most beautiful venues in the world. Father Choo allowed us to combine the traditions of the Catholic church with those of the native Hawaiian people. It made for a beautiful and memorable wedding. Thank you so much for all of the wonderful memories you helped create for my family and me. Our eternal love...

I think this church was amazing and very beautiful. I am going to visit this church again in November 2010 since I will be staying in Hawaii for 14 days , I am a catholic and live in Australia and think it is a very stunning church , its old and very warming , I love it . I truely recommend a mass there to anyone .

I have to agree with the previous two writers. I am not a regular churchgoer, but my daughter told me about her visit to Mass a couple of Sundays ago and I decided to go with her the following Sunday. I am from New York City, which has many, many beautiful churches, but St. Augustine's by-the-sea captured the unique spirit of Aloha! Fr. Akiona was personable and a joy to listen to. I would recommend Mass attendance for any Roman Catholic visitor to Honolulu, and just a look-see visit if you do not wish to attend mass or are not Catholic and are not curious about the Mass ritual. I will also say one other thing - the traditional church songs were done with a Hawaiian slant and were enjoyable to sing and to hear. .

I am writing because I was hurt to see the previous review by anonymous. I visited while staying at Waikiki's Outrigger Hotel and found St. Augustine by the Sea deeply welcoming. There was a holiness there that I will not forget. I am sorry that someone else felt hurt there. Perhaps the previous reviewer was not a Roman Catholic and was upset by the term, "the elect." I can't imagine how this must have seemed. But as a Roman Catholic, I feel God loves everyone, of every faith or of no faith, more than I can imagine. I'm sure other members of our church would agree. On my visit, I was happy to learn that Hawaii's Blessed Fr. Damien of Molokai has moved closer to Canonization. The advancement of Blessed Damien toward sainthood happened while I was visiting his beloved Hawaii. I've been reading of the wonderful works of Blessed Damien and Blessed Sr. Marianne and the Sisters of St. Francis since. The Catholic Church has an honorable tradition of ministering to non-Catholics in Hawaii.

Right off Waikiki beach is a Catholic church, which welcomed both its locals as well as us tourists. The church was very neat and clean and the spirit of Aloha was there down to the priest wearing a lei over his vestments. Truly a great spiritual experience. Plus the location was great, walking distance from most Waikiki hotels

PROS: Warm, Welcoming Catholic Church; great location
CONS: None
