My husband and I honeymooned here 4 years ago. We have since returned each year for our anniversary. This is truly a magical place. I can't say enough about how lovely it is - not just the buildings and decor, but the surrounding area as well. The staff has always been perfectly attentive to our every need. There are so many things to do - everything from horseback riding, swimming, bowling, croquet, falconry, fishing, and ice skating to just relaxing in the great hall by the fireplace.

I am obsessed with this place. It is a huge resort with tons of history. There are tons of winter and summer sports available (skiing, snow tubing, horseback riding, mountain biking, etc.) They are kid friendly as well. The place is preserved very well. It's like going back in time. A cool place is the Presidential Lounge. There are tons of pictures of presidents all around this round room - and they have all stayed there! The spa is my favorite place though. It really is world class. It is among Conde Nast's top 50 in either North America or the entire world, I can't remember. It smells of Eucalyptus from the oil they use in the sauna, and you'll hear Dan Gibson's Solitudes playing softly. If I sound like a Homestead employee its because I worked there for a few weeks. I didn't like it as an employee, I felt it was sort of like a sweatshop to be frank! I had to wear a poop-brown uniform (in the spa) that didn't fit at all. It was 1971 pure polyester. I'd much rather go for treatments and shopping. Its wonderful!!!!

PROS: Historic, Peaceful, Activities for kids
CONS: Expensive!

It wasn't overly ornate with amenities, but there was plenty of room to relax and you could in either all same sex or co-ed locations. You could steam or take a sauna in between treatments if you wished.

You HAVE to have the mineral bath in the spa! It is the most decadent feeling. You are completely supported by fresh naturally heated mineral water as bubbles track their way up your spine. Then the water is continually overflowing...just a feeling not to be missed. Even my husband enjoyed his and he isn't a bath person.

I would love to go again! This time I'll take the waters at the Jeffersonian pools.

You will feel at home the second you pull up to the HUGE front porch!
