Rachael H. is confused. This is not a for profit area, it is a national park. Part of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The site is free and there are fees of any kind.

This place was beautiful 4 years ago. Because back then it was not run solely for profit. Back then the Chellberg farm actually had farm animals. They actually hired people to help out at the farm and gave historic tours to school children from both Indiana and Chicago. Now it is just a empty ghost town. The animals have been sold off most workers have been laid off. And the historic buildings? Have been locked up. No one can tour the house or barn anymore. This is what happens when a self-sufficient organization becomes a profit organization..

Chellberg Farm is a cozy excursion, you can hike up in the mountains and sight-see along a pre-determined path. You have the option of taking a guided tour with a friendly and helpful tour guide who will point out wildlife, plants, and teach you interesting means of survival. The only downside is, there are only 2 of these tour guides available per day and it is with a large group of people, thus, making the trip less family oriented and personal. However, if you choose to hike up alone, it is still a lot of fun and a lot of the wildlife is marked with little bios written about them as you go along, so, you can still have fun. Inside this large barn, they have projects such a creating a bird-feeder using a pinecone and you even get to make food for yourself. Overall, this is just a splendid little package for an affordable price. Everything just wraps up nice and easy like a present. Delightful!

This is a great place to hike and check out the scenery and the fantastically preserved old buildings. They host an annual Maple Sugar Festival early in the year that is awesome and tasty. The old farm house and barns have been turned into museums, depicting how life was lived back in the early 1900s, with the presenters in period costumes. Its a great way to check out life and learn about the area back then. It is impossible, however, to find much information on it on the internet as they dont have a website and other website with their name are only specific on one thing or another.

PROS:
CONS: hard to find info about them on the web
