Recently found this store. The woman who runs this store is so kind and helpful. Her prices for the items I was looking for beat the big box stores AND the on line prices. She can special order, so ask if you don't see what you want. Also, please see the other reviews which speak about her proactively working to care for and spay and neuter stray cats and find them homes. This woman has my support.

I have been shopping at Tabby and Pup for many years. My vet of 17 years, Dr. Karen Manuel, recommended I buy high premium pet food at Tabby and Pup. It will extend the life of your pets and keep them out of the vets office! (My dog just died, she was over 15 yrs old & never had a heath issue. Died of old age.)
I have received priceless advice from the owner Kay. I soon found out she lived in my neighborhood and takes care of all our feral, stray cats. She gets them fixed and feeds them every day!
The prices are fair on all supplies needed for your pets.
If you adopt there, the cats are fixed with all shots included.
Someone complained about cruelty, they are wrong! Go to the ASPCA or Humane Society, ALL the cats are in small cages and some shelters are KILL shelters!!! (that is cruel) Tabby and Pup has a huge room in the back with cats trees and windows. The cats are very happy and get lots of attention from the workers and customers! My kids love going there. Some of the cats that are in cages are feral cats and are waiting to be sent to a farm in the country where they take these cats. So people who complain, get your facts straight!!!!!! I can 110% tell you that this is the place to get your pet needs with that personalized attention that you don't see anywhere, especially the big chains. Lastly, if you buy pet food at grocery stores, consider that to be cruelty to pets, just research the ingredients!

This is the best place to buy Natural/Healthy or even hard to find pet food. Prices are as good as most places. The owner, Kay, is a wonderful caring person. And will help find anything you need.

To Diane L.: Please stop slandering Kay and her business. She tries her hardest to take care of the ferals/strays. Just for one second imagine what condition the cats would be in if they were on the streets? No food. No air/heat. She takes them to vet with her own money. Gets them fixed. Feeds them and cares as best as someone can with limited resources. Instead of complaining, how about adopting a few? Or finding someone who will?

Response To Cruel's review of Tabby and Pup.
Tabby and Pup is a store that provides high quality pet foods and products. If you are trying to find a specific product that cannot be found in local stores, try Tabby and Pup. If it is not in stock, Kay Nelson, owner, will go out of her way to locate the product or find a comparable substitution.
As far as the situation of the cats in the store. Yes, there are healthy and well cared for cats in the store waiting for homes. So, if you are looking to adopt a cat, please visit Tabby and Pup and help out the homeless cat situation in Chesterfield County. The author of "Cruel" would do more good for these animals if she put her energy into something positive like helping these cats find good homes. Think about how much wasted time and energy she is using to slander Kay Nelson, who is 100% devoted to helping animals, Instead she should take that energy and do something positive to help the stray and abandoned animals in Chesterfield Country. Kay is passionately involved with helping people get their cats spayed and neutered. She has been known to travel to peoples houses to take their pets for them to have them spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and treated for other medical problems. People, for whatever reasons cannot provide these services to their pets. Quite often, she uses her own money to pay the medical bills for these needy people and pets. So yes, there are cat carriers in her store at times. They are there briefly while being transported to the vet and back to their owners. I have personally known Kay Nelson for 10 years and I can't count the number of times Kay has helped me and other people with their pets. She helped me with the medical bills for a Cocker Spaniel with heart worms who had been abandoned by it's owner. The dog was adopted into a good home. Kay helped me look for a lost cat in the middle of the night. Whatever animal problem I have , Kay is always willing to help. This does not sound like a person who is involved in animal cruelty. In conclusion, I am very grateful for people like Kay Nelson who truly care about animals. It seems like there is always someone out there who is so willing to destroy someone or something trying to do good. Instead they actually end up causing the problems they are accusing someone of. Keeping people away from Tabby and Pup is going to make it that much harder for the cats there waiting for home to actually get the homes they need. Encouraging people to join her crusade of eliminating Kay Nelson and her store is going to help animals how? People should admire Kay for her 100% committment, compassion, and selfless acts to of kindness to help the animals in Chesterfield County.

The store Tabby & Pup, at 1201 Crowder Dr. in Midlothian, VA, is still confining cats in cat carriers!! In the carrier is a litter pan which takes up half the space -- the cats can't even stretch! Cat carriers are used to transport cats they weren't meant to house them. The owner also keeps many cats confined in a small fenced-in area in her store. I don't care what the reasons are -- no animal should be confined like this. The owner says she doesn't let the cats roam freely in her store because they would tear the cat food bags, thereby making them worthless. In that case, keep the cats in a different area of the house, which has ample room to do so.

There is a community of volunteers who work with stray and feral cats and use their own money to care for them, but they do not capture and hoard them!

As far as the brands of food this store carries -- just ask your personal veterinarian to order the particular brand of food you need. Your vet will know more than the store owner of Tabby & Pup.

If you've never been to Tabby and Pup it's worth checking out. Only healthy top of the line foods are sold there. My husband and I started going to Tabby and Pup over 4 years ago when we were changing our dogs over to Innova, around the time of the big dog food scare. Kay's store was the only store in the area that carried it, and her prices were more than reasonable. She is very knowledgeable, and offers great advice for health/diet concerns for both dogs and cats, and is willing to special order if you need something not in stock. Tabby and Pup doubles as a cat rescue shelter. I have always enjoyed going for pet food and being able to play with all of the kitties. We adopted one of her cats a month ago, and I can't say enough good things about the experience. He came home with us already neutered, up to date on all immunizations. Before I took him Kay treated him for worms, clipped his nails, applied front line, and checked his ears for mites. She even sent me home with an antibiotic and enough food to transition him. All this loving care, and she only would accept a small fee for the adoption. Kay cares for many ferrel cat colonies in the area. I love knowing that my money is going to help our community's cats rather than a large corporation with heavy overhead.

My very first experience with Tabby & Pup was over the phone. My wife and I had just picked up a new puppy and I wanted to purchase the Orijen brand dog food that I had read about on the internet. I called and the lady that owns the place and she said she was closing in just a few minutes but offered to set a $35 dollar bag of pet food outside on the porch and I could leave her a check. Needless to say I was hooked on the type of customer service and trust she offered me without us even having met before. The price she has on the Orijen is as cheap as any I could find on the internet and that is before the shipping charges. If you are looking for excellent choices in pet food at very reasonable prices and friendly service Tabby & Pup is the place to go. BTW, she won't ask but use debit, check or cash if you can so she dosn't get hit with credit card fees maybe this will help keep the prices down.

If you love cats, you'll love this place! It's a kitty wonderland! Visiting the cats is more than half the fun of shopping here. The other half is the wide variety of healthy foods and treats for your tabbies and pups. Kay, the owner, is 100% dedicated to the health and happiness of pets and their humans. Very highly recommended for selection, quality, value, above-and-beyond helpful service and ... the furry, friendly ambiance!

We buy Verus dog food from Tabby and Pup. It is the only place in town that carries this all natural brand. The prices are cheaper than some of the name brand dog foods at the grocery store. The owner is very nice and always willing to help. Even stayed open a few minutes late for me one night so I could buy my dogs food on the way home from work one time. The place smells kind of bad because of all the cats, but totally worth it. We love supporting local businesses.

This is one of the only stores in the area that sells HEALTHY dog/cat food and products. Her prices are excellent (Even the Merrick Bully sticks are cheaper here than the crappy alternative brand sold in Petsmart!) This store doubles as a homeless cat haven. The owner is always there...and is very helpful. Oh and the cats get out of their carriers at night! She does not live there - even though it looks like a house! If you're interested in healthy dog/cat food alternatives, or adopting a cat in need, PLEASE go to Tabby & pup -the cats need homes!! :)

This is a great place to buy premium dog and cat food. The owner is very nice and always willing to help. If she doesn't have something in stock she will always order and hold some for you. I really like how she takes in homeless cats and adopts them out. i go here because most other places that sell premium foods also sell puppy mill dogs and I will not support businesses like that.

In addition to the many varieties of cat food/products Tabby and Pup has to offer, you can also adopt one of her 70+ cats for a small fee. I was told that many of the cats have been there for years (even the ones that are in small pet carriers). The reason could be is that the owner is extremely selective when it comes to adopting one of her cats. She wants to make sure they get good homes and are not returned or sent out to the streets again. She prefers them to go to owners that will keep them solely inside. She also has many feral cats, which most are friendly and some would be happy to live their lives out in a barn. (Barn cats can??t live solely on mice, so they would need to be fed daily.) I found the owner to be very helpful and informative. Looks like she could have used a little help with cleaning cages, feeding and watering.

Perfect store for purchasing dry or canned food for my diabetic cat. They have high protein dry and/or canned foods and great freeze-dried treats. The owner is very helpful and has a big heart helping a lot of cats in need.

Tabby stocks a variety of commercial pet foods and treats that you can't find at chain stores like Petsmart, including Innova, Wellness, California Natural, and Eagle Pack. The store looks like someone's house (living quarters upstairs, store downstairs), but it's run by a friendly woman and the prices are decent. The store is pretty cluttered, so you're better off just asking where something is instead of wandering around searching.
