This is without a doubt the best independent video store in Asheville and surrounding areas. They have titles nobody else has. The review by Jessica D. gives a great overview of everything they have to offer.
They also take requests for hard-to-find titles, for rental as well as for sale. If you are looking for it, chances are store owner and raconteur Marc McCloud knows how obtain it for you.
Another great thing about Orbit DVD is they have a buffer machine. If your disc looks a little scratched they will be happy to put it in the machine and smooth it out for you. You can also pay to buff CDs and DVDs from your own collection.
Because people do come from all around to visit Orbit, they also have an option to mail your movies back if you don't think you will be able to return them on time in person. Imagine, a rental store that wants to help you avoid late fees!
It is easy to see why Asheville Mtn Xpress readers have consistently voted Orbit DVD the #1 indy video store several years in a row. Sure they have hard to find titles, but they also have a friendly staff and extra little touches that nobody else around here has even thought about doing. May Orbit DVD live long and prosper!

Orbit DVD is located in West Asheville off Haywood Rd. They have a huge selection of unusual DVDs- documentaries, music shows, cult and horror flicks, tv series- as well as new releases. The employees are really friendly and always ready to give their honest opinon on movies (often putting sticky notes on the shelves telling you exactly what they think). Orbit joins up with Westville Pub to offer free walk-in movies in the back parking lot once a month. Orbit offers a subscription program for $20 a month, rent one DVD or video game per day, no late fees, keep it as long as you want. But unlike most chain video stores- you do not need a credit card, you aren't automatically charged and it's not a hassle to cancel. Orbit supports other local businesses with posters and menus on the tack board. It's really nice to go into a video store and instead of a computerized membership card, I get to talk to a real person who always remembers my name.
