Cake was homemade but by the time it was presented to the table it was touched mauled by waitstaff/manager it was destroyed. We could see manager in the prep area poking at it trying to fix it by pouring sauce all over the top of it. Not pretty or appetizing.

We were seated in the courtyard and had a black spider and carpenter ants crawling on our table while eating. Spiders and webs were evident around the wet garden area as well. Our waiter was "obligatory" (and absent during the insect episodes) and did not appear as warm & welcoming as the other server. We called to follow up with the owner as we cared to return but felt that our concerns were not important but rather were an aggravation (excuses were made for the waiter). Food was exceptional but hard to enjoy when you must squash a large spider and ants with the sugar container! We're rating as "unsatisfactory" because a $60 lunch should not be spent killing insects (and watching them on the walls) ... and we believe our follow up with the owner warranted more concern and care. We will not return.

My husband had a fantastic clam chorizo dish as an appetizer. That was the highlight of the meal. My salad, mediterasian..I think it was called, was a sorry excuse. It had fava beans in it, which I love and buy in bulk at Central Market when they come into season. One thing that makes fava beans so special is all the work that goes into their preparation. They must be shucked from the pod then squeezed out of their casings. Blue Moon shucked, but didn't bother to squeeze..this doesn't make for a nice texture, somewhat like a latex coating. The olives on the salad looked like they were just scooped from the grocery store olive bar and dumped on top, liquid and all.
My main course was the beef short ribs, which I think was a special that night. Too much sauce and too greasy. Hubby had the smoked elk, I couldn't wait to taste it, blah. Another in our party had the crabcake, it tasted okay, but it was too mushy.
The wine list leaves a lot to be desired, if you like wine. Very little variety and very pricey for what is on the list.
waitress, very nice, professional
bartender, not very helpful with the wine, seemed annoyed
atmosphere, pleasant. They are still displaying artists work on the walls.
If you're looking for the slightly bohemian-gourmet-best steak in town-Old Blue Moon, this isn't it. I might try it again sometime for lunch, not many choices in York! Then again you still have to hurdle the mission guys, worth it?? maybe not.

Blue moon is a quiant little cafe, tucked in the inner city. They do alot of work for artist, such as displaying their arts. The food use to be better, it seems to be going down hill over the last several months. This is a higher class cafe that caters to the business professional. I hope they come back to what they use to be.
