I agree with the previous posting, RIverwalk Restaurant is terrible except for the beautiful view of the York River. We were a large group, and I know that can sometimes be challenging. However, we had made reservations for 10 for 7:45 on a Sunday evening, and at about 7:15 we needed to add 2 more people to the party. This seemed to throw the reservation desk; however, we were told that they would be able to serve us all, but the two new additional people might have to be at a separate table. That is when we should have cancelled our reservations and moved on. Arbitrarily, they decided to split our group of twelve into two groups of six, which did not leave seating to accommodate the split of the group members. This was another red flag that should have told us to leave. Still, we sat side by side as two groups of six hoping for the best.
We had two different waiters/waitresses, and they did not seem to coordinate things and handle us a one large group. One group ordered drinks & was served, dinner ordered were taken, bread was served at the table, later dinner was served, and they finished eating and had to wait for the second group to be served about 10 minutes after the first group had finished eating. The second group of six, whose drink orders were taken, dinner orders were taken, waited and waited as the other table of six was finished eating. Finally, the second group of six was served. The she-crab soup arrived lukewarm with a thick skin on the top of it w/o sherry as a side; obviously, it had been sitting somewhere for a while. Finally, our dinner arrived, all the food was heavily salted and breaded and deep-fried. You could not taste the food, which may have been a blessing, for the breading and grease it was fried in. The vegetables arrived like the soup, luke-warm.
To make matter worse, I had recommended the restaurant because my husband and I had eaten there last July (2008), and everything was absolutely delicious. I don??t know has happened, but none of us will be returning, and I will recommend when people visit Yorktown to not eat at Riverwalk Restaurant ?? bad service, bad food, and all over-priced.

Ok, this place is absolute garbage. The Chesapeake blue crab meat (that they advertise and say it is local) is from Indonesia. The "fresh" fish is has been frozen both times I have eaten there. Sometimes the salmon and tuna are fresh but only when they can't get the frozen fillets. EVERYTHING in the cafe is frozen except for the Indonesian crab cakes (remember, they say Chesapeake). The dressings are made in house, however. Evidently they have like 7 chefs that work there plus numerous cooks, and even with 7 chefs, they still fall short in the food department. The service is decent in the restaurant but the cafe service is hit or miss. Nice views but that is it. Go to the pub down the road, the food is more authentic and cheaper than Nick's Riverwalk. However, the pub is just what it is, a dive. So tourists, avoid this trap and eat elsewhere.

I could not disagree more with the other reviews about this restaurant. This restaurant does not compare to the Old Nick's...its not supposed to. It has nothing to do with the old Nicks Seafood Pavilion. The food at the NEW Nicks was as good as I have ever eaten. The service was great and the wine list may be the most reasonable I have ever seen. The views are unbelievable. The presentation of the food was beautiful and the prices were a value ($18 to $28.00). They even had a large and varied children's menu.
I just don't understand what these other reviewers were looking for, but the OLD Nick's was the gaudiest, dirtiest restaurant I have ever eaten it. "Different Strokes for Different Folks", I guess.

PROS: Great Views, Great Wine List
CONS: The only outside seating is in the casual restaurant

Nick's used to be SO beautiful... as has been mentioned by the others here, they had gorgeous tapestries, paintings, and statues all over the restaurant. I will say the view is still absolutely gorgeous, and the location is nice. There's no overcrowding, and the setting is great for an after dinner walk. The food itself is average to slightly above average, depending on what you order. I don't eat seafood, but that is their specialty. I've heard from family that it's great, though. The non-seafood entrees that I have ordered have been, again, average to slightly above.

If you ever had the distinct pleasure of dining at the original Nick's - you're going to be disappointed. There are no statues, no tapestries, and no cherub paintings. No odd fountain and, sadly, no Mrs. Nick. They did move the mosaic from the entry hallway - but that's about it.

It's a perfectly fine restaurant with good food and an amazing view. The style is very modern with sleek benches, modern patterns, and modern lighting. The food was quite food and right on par with what I expected. I'd say the pricing is correct for the quality.

The riverwalk area is really interesting and a great addition to that area of Yorktown. Go early and walk around - there are great shops and you should check out the beach area.

PROS: Sleek modern style and good food
CONS: it's just not Nick's!

I was excited to find what I thought would be the replacement to the wonderfull Nicks seafood pavilion that one graced the banks of the York river. The beautiful new Riverwalk Landing iis a beautiful place and home for several higher end shops and tthis restaurant. The restaurant offers two choices, the Rivah Cafe, for a smaller price tag, and the Riverwalk Dining Room, for fine dining which we chose. I was not not at all impressed with the number of menu selections nor the quality of the food for the $20-$40 per entree price tag. The view is wonderfull, the staff friendly, but just not worth the bill. Their menu does change from time to time, so If you are brave go ahead and give it a try, or save some money and go to another local restaurant two or three times with the money , and enjoy the food as much or more. I would the chefs try a little harder to make the dining match the expectations people may have when they see the Nicks name.

PROS: hugh end, beautiful, great view, lots of potential
CONS: expensive, not worth the price,
