"How long have you been in this country?"

"You should never have children."

Unless these are phrases you'd like to hear from a dog "buyer" or pet store manager, you should not shop here for pups. The store had a cute pup for whom the initial saleswoman quoted a much inflated $1800. She encouraged my partner and I to make a "reasonable offer" since "we had nothing to lose." We had privately decided to buy the dog on the spot given a reasonable price, offered her to pay "$1400-1500" and she said would then have to call the dog's "buyer."

The burly and bald-headed "buyer" (who identifies himself as Gary Nudelman @petboss on Twitter) soon comes over and quite literally boxes us in the play cage where we sat with the dog. At first he offers to show "7 or 8 others who are in the basement" who might be "more in our price range." When we inform him that we would not like to see the puppies in the basement, he quickly reveals a streak of aggression stained with hints of racism/xenophobia and frank brutishness.

He insists he has been in the dog buying business for 30 years, gets his puppies from "the absolute *best* breeders *anywhere*," starts hurling streams of basic arithmetic only to ultimately add the price of sales tax in order to mock our offer for a "$2050 Yorkie." He adds that the health of his dogs warrants a premium to which my partner responds that health is not something that can be predicted. He first asks how long she has been in the country. She conveys her experiences abroad with the same breed and conveys that her dog of the same breed appeared very healthy only to get sick. He admonishes us for "assuming the absolute worst," makes an illogical comparison to his experience as a "father of three children," and then tells her directly that with her outlook "you should never have children" of her own. Somehow he also finds time to imply that I simply "did not want to pay" as we try to escape his tirade.

My partner cried for an hour after and confided that in the 10 years she since she has left South Korea to pursue her studies in Germany, Switzerland, and now the US, she had only experienced such prejudice on one occasion in East Berlin. Furthermore, she felt that "telling a woman not to have children was one of the worst insults possible." She continues to find other streets to avoid walking past A World of Pups for fear of traumatic reenactment of our experience there.

In summary, not only will we not return to A World of Pups, I now find myself having to plan alternate routes to avoid any cognizance of the store. If our experience was in any way reflective of Mr. Nudelman's business ethics or basic human values, I would advise avoiding his store.

Not what it use to be. They have slacked off there the new staff is a little lazy when it comes to taking care of the animals. But the owner isn't there as often anymore I guess that's why.

My Husband bought me a cat from here for my wedding present for $1000. i was so in love with him and i still to this day from 2004 am very sad. Three months after we brought him home he died and $6K later trying to save him was down the drain. He died from a cat disease that cats have if they are not properly given there shots the first few weeks of birth. The cat (before I did my research) did not have any shots when we bought him at 3 months. He had distemper a disease caught during transit from a puppy mill that he would have been protected against if he was given the shot. When I called the store he told me theres noting he could do I told him he would be hearing from my lawyer and he told me that Im a b***h and to go F myself. Money wasnt going to bring him back so i just let it go because dealing with him was to painful. PLEASE NEVER BUY A PET HERE go directly to a breeder. my new persian was only $500 and came to me on a plane already with shots and is the best little thing ever. The vet he sent me to is his partner and basically aided in killing the cat before I could get him to the NY city animal hospital.

I had purchased a puppy back in May 2007 from World of Pets. Within the first 4 days, my puppy was diagnosed with pneumonia. My local vet informed me that the puppy was probably sold to me this way because the illness didn't happen overnight. When I contacted the owner, he instructed me to bring the puppy back and he would give me another one. My young daughter had now become attached and being an animal lover, I wanted to do all that I could to save Bella (minature maltese/shitzu). After a 4 day hospital stay that cost me $3,000 and the cost to purchase the puppy $1200, the rude owner told me to f**k myself when asked for a refund. I love my dog so much and thank God that she made it through but no one should have to experience a nightmare the way that we did. I could not stress more how this store should be investigated for animal cruelty and fraud.

Buyer Beware!!!! This store sales sick puppies I bought my dog from here and she died the next day. I decided to go to my own vet b/c it seems like this place works hand in hand with the vet they send you to. My vet told me that my puppy was never going to make it she was sold to me way too young and and she had Upper repertory infection when I tried to get my money back is was a big issue. I had to go to court just to get my money back. Come to find out this place has been on Help me Howard 3 times for the same issue and when I ask the people in the Brooklyn small claims court they said Mr. Nudelman (The Owner) has been sued there over many years countless times. My thought is why is this place still open??

Everyone likes World of Bets because it has a good selection with so many animals to play with. They have birds, turtles, cats, dogs, hamsters, fish, you name it they have it! It is located on 86 street. The items they sell are pretty cheap and it's a great place to take the kids because kids love looking at the animals and petting some of them. They also have good variety and toys just for the pets!

I bought my first guinea pig from here and while my guinea pig was healthy, many of the other animals were not. There were lots of dead fish in the tanks, some fluffed up sick hamsters and a parrot that was plucking its feathers. Besides the amount of sick animals, there was a very distinct foul odor when you walk into the store.

The sales staff is not very helpful unless you're there to purchase a dog or cat. I found a lot of the staff to be rude and uninformative about general animal care information.

Although they do carry a lot of good high quality pet foods (Wellness, Natural Balance, etc), they are pretty expensively priced.

PROS: they carry high quality pet foods like Wellness, Natural Balance, etc
CONS: sick animals, expensively priced items
