After searching online at petfinder.com for a puppy to adopt my boyfriend and I fell in love with a puppy up for adoption at PET ADOPTION FUND in Canoga Park. We travelled to P.A.F. on 05/24/2011 to inquire on the puppy in question and after being informed that he was still available for adoption, we were given some time to spend with the puppy. My boyfriend and I were so excited that we had found our puppy. So, on 05/24/2011, we signed a contract to adopt the puppy, and wrote two checks for $100 each coming to a total of $200. We were then informed that we needed to have a home check before taking our puppy home, the check was scheduled for 3pm on 05/26/2011. At 2pm on 05/26/2011 P.A.F. informed my girlfriend and I that they gave the puppy to an employee that lives on the property. The checks were "destroyed", and we never saw our puppy again.
Just look them up on the BBB.org website!

I just read on another review website that this place says it's under new management which I guess was supposed to be an excuse for the unorganized way the place is being run BECAUSE THIS IS THE SAME MANAGEMENT IT HAS HAD FOR DECADES. As many times as I've gone in there, I've watched people walk away because they are treated so rudely and there are many cats and dogs that are never allowed to be out of the cages so the cats and dogs can only sit and stand and lay down in small cages. So unfair. This place is supposed to be a rescue but can you imagine any human being being forced to live in a small cage for MONTHS AND YEARS with no way to get out? I think this would be called torture and it's inhumane. Plus this place has way too many cats and dogs and no place for most of the cats and dogs to get any kind of exercise which must be why they keep them in small cages.

I just got back from driving an hour in traffic after leaving work early to walk into an office where a lady was on the phone with her friend talking about their own medical problems. As I walked in a bunch of dogs started barking in this small office and the woman on the phone just spoke louder to her friend and said "sorry someone just walked in" and instead of her getting off to assist me she continued the conversation as I let the dogs smell me so they'd stop barking. Once she got off the phone I had asked about the "dog of the week" or whatever it was and she informed me that another gentleman was going to view it later today so she couldn't show it to me but there were others like it. So when i asked about a similar German Shepherd she said I had to fill out paper work and walked out of the room as soon as she handed it to me. After filling out the questioner, she asked why I would have a German Shepherd living in a fenced in backyard and I said "because it's a big dog" she told me I couldn't adopt any of her animals because they all need to stay inside.... the bad part about this situation is that all her dogs are outside in this alley. She informed me of another place to look but I stopped her mid sentence and said I would rather buy from a breeder. I did not get to ask about adoption fee's but was willing to pay more for a dog from a rescue because of the cause. Now I don't want to support this rescue since they would rather have me buy from a breeder.
I hope people read this before they waste their time, money, and gas on this awful organization that does not help dogs find homes. Doesn't it make more sense to move these dogs into loving homes so they can get more dogs off the streets and proceed with the same process? I guess not

Have adopted three dogs from them over the years. They are great at matching us with the perfect dog for our family and we can take the dog home the same say.
