I chose this Spa because of it??s similarities in style to Ten Thousand Waves in Sante Fe NM...Outdoor soaking tubs-Japanese in style-and the similarities end at the style-because 10,000 Waves was AMAZING-but Shoji Spa was awful...
I booked their package which included 2 hour long soaks and 2- 80 minute massages on the out door deck-and it costs more for the out door deck. When I booked on tge phone they advised me that if we needed to go inside due to weather we would see a credit on our bill.....

The customer service here was terrible-we arrived and we were told our appt was for the following day-not the day we arrived-I might have believed that I had made a mistake when booking - had the date NOT BEEN MY 5 YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY! So I was quite certain that it was their mistake-not mine.

They called in therapists to assist-and sent us to our tub on the lower level-I had requested upper level to be near the cold plunge and sauna-oh well-strike #2! While soaking in our ??relaxing tub? we could hear the buzz of power tools as they were working on a tub near by...not good-strike #3.....

Then when the therapists cane to take us to the ??quite relaxing outdoor deck? for our 80 minute massages-we could hear lots of loud traffic from the road below the Spa-cars, motorcycles, trucks-and even sirens!!! Not my idea of ??quiet relaxation? Strike #4-
When I complained to my massage therapist that the pressure was too hard he said ??your muscles need it? ??? REALLY? IT HURTS! and he kept the same pressure....

When we went in to leave I expressed my dissatisfaction with the noise level on the outdoor deck and requested a credit for the difference in cost as I was not advised that you could hear the traffic from The Blue Ridge Highway!!!! (I would have booked indoors had I been told.) They said there would be no credit as we booked a package-and there is no cost difference......REALLY? Then why did the guy who took my reservation (and booked the wrong date) tell me there would be a credit if we had to move inside? Someone has the info wrong here....

I sent an e mail and a hard copy snail mail letter to the owners-and they never responded...

They try to emulate a wonderful Spa-but the service here falls far below any Spa that I have ever been to-and I have been to many over the years....

Stick with The Grove Park Inn when in Asheville-much better- and cleaner....

We (2 couples) visited Shoji last weekend of Sept 08, stayed in the Lodge and had several hot tub sessions and massages. Grounds are clean, attractive, in a beautiful setting. Lodge is comfortable and private. We brought breakfast food and snacks/wine and ate in Asheville. Very private and romantic. Staff was very professional and helpful, gave good restaurant recommendations and even found a bar/restaurant in town where we could listen to the first presidential debate. They gave great massages. The Japanese decorations, soft music, etc. were very relaxing. Reasonable prices. Highly recommend Shoji.

Shogi is a wonderful spot!! Very relaxing and beautiful atmosphere! Class act! Also incredibly romantic or nice spot to chill by yourself. Would like to see them offer a local discount of sorts or to have a public tub that's more affordable and accessable for locals.

This place is great for everyone. The staff is great, and the location is even better. No only are the tubs private, and clean, but they have a cold plunge as well. The massage therapists are friendly and know what they are doing. If you what a day of relaxing then this is the place to go.
