Rissoto dish is the best. Need a little more seasoning and garlic in their dishes. I'm Italian, so I like more garlic than probably the norm.

We live close and eat here often, so I have sampled many items on the menu. The meat sauce and regular marinara are the best in my opinion. All the other sauces are just ok. I am a sauce fanatic, so I have sampled most of them even if it

This place was awful! We always joke that Olive Garden doesn't know anything about Italian food but this place has them beat! If you're looking for boring, bland, overpriced, uninventive food, this is your spot! I seriously don't know where the positive reviews come from....maybe from people who only know olive garden...or possibly from all the old people that seem to flock to this place?

It had been awhile since we dined here, and it
used to have a good reputation. But last night
was easily once of the worst dining experiences
we've had in the last several years here in the
Portland area. Indifferent service with fairly bland
salads and entree's.

The place looks tired and it didn't feel like the
two servers in the section we sat in wanted to
be there. My wife couldn't finish her Ceasar
and my Fettuccine was sub par.

We won't be back again, and I wouldn't recommend.

My boyfriend and I went in about 45 minutes before closing. The waiter gave us their lunch menus, then after looking it over and ordering, he informed us he'd forgotten they switched their menus already (from lunch to dinner) because they were about to close. Not a fan.

I've received mailer coupons for this place for years and never went. I always wondered why they put out so many coupons and now I know. The food is ok. Not completely horrible but definitely NOT great. It's edible and fills your stomach but when I go out to dinner and pay a significant amount of money I expect better than 'eh, it's alright'. My meal came with vegetables that were described as roasted on their menu but they were steamed and bland. That was a huge disappointment. The largest portion of my main course was atlantic salmon (I should have asked what type of salmon they used) and the heaping side to fill the plate was the cheap staple starch. I expected more than 2 prawns and 2 scallops for my scallop, prawn and salmon dinner but I understand, they need to serve you as little as the higher quality items as possible to pad their pockets. I will definitely never go back simply because there are far better places to eat.

Okay, first off, I have to admit, I've never been to Italy, but I grew up in an Italian household and know good Italian food when I taste it. Cafe Allegro was fabulous!

The ambiance is romantic, and reminiscent of what I envision Europe to be like. The wait staff is attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The meal was preceded by warm, delicious Italian bread, accompanied by olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The meal was satisfying and delighted my palate. I had the Qualtro Mani Montepuliciano wine, (Italy 2006) which complemented the meal perfectly.

I have eaten here several times and have yet to be disappointed by their meals. Typically have eaten the Chicken Artichoke pasta dish but the last time ordered the Shrimp Artichoke Risotto and it was fabulous! Reasonably priced, this last meal, about $12.00 including a drink.

Right on the main street of Tigard, and easy to pass by if you aren't looking carefully. Limited parking spots in the front so best to go down the side alley right next to it which leads to plenty of parking in the back.

I've been to cafe allegro many times, the quaint old house style interior and seating area make for a pleasant experience. The food is very good. You must be a garlic lover if you are going to try the chicken fettuccine . worth a try and a fair price.

I started going to Cafe Allegro when I was 10 years old in 1990 to 1998 every friday as a family.... but once Steve quit managing that store the quality of the food went down BIG TIME!!! Steve was so particular with how the food was supposed to taste!! I never once did not like my plate..I got the same dish every time (Chicken Artichoke), so I know how that pasta is supposed to taste... it is now bland and boring!! On april 1, 2006 I decided to give Cafe Allegro another chance. That night I was leaving Oregon and moving to Texas. So I really wanted to have Cafe Allegro my last meal since that place was such a big part of my life for so long....but... unfortunately... I didn't get what I hoped for.. my meal was worse than it had been ever since..sauce had too much water, noodles overcooked, no seasoning, hardly any artichoke, chicken was gross. A big disappointment!!! I loved that place so much.. and now, I just could not imagine ever eating there again!! . its very sad... I held every friday there, every birthday there and every special occasion there.. it used to be so good.. Now, not so much!!!

Oh and I cant forget to write this... how many places do you go nowadays that dont give you free refills on sodas?? Not sure if they give free refills now , but even in 2006 they still did not give refills and their glasses are so small!! Not being picky.. but being honest... l

(I will say this though... Their BREAD IS STILL AMAZING!!!!! thats the only reason why I gave them a 2 star!!)

The food at Cafe Allegro is terrible. You can do better Italian from a can of Chef Boyardee. (Beware of online reviewers pumping this place and do not be lured in.)

Our dinner was remarkably tasteless, served luke-warm, and bearing no resemblance to the dish's namesake. Service was mediocre, as though the waitstaff shared our desire to be somewhere else. Our table was in a hallway....

No, we didn't ask to be re-seated or to have them take the food back, just wanted out. Hopefully this unsolicited review will spare others a similar experience.

**update to someone's post on 2/22**

People are going to have different tastes. I am NOT affiliated with Cafe Allegro and the posting made after mine almost made me feel as though I was being accused of such.

I returned to Cafe Allegro on the evening of 2/23, and had my usual Smoked Salmon. I don't honestly know the techniques behind their preparation, but I've never had a problem.

I walked into Cafe Allegro for the first time in 2001 when working for a small Internet provider down the street. I actually remember the place smelling pretty good, I could certainly smell red wine and onions going at some point. My first time in a restaurant, I usually keep it simple and go with something that looks non-threatening. :)

I chose the smoked salmon fettucini, and it has since become a routine order for me. The creamy white wine sauce was not too heavy, the mushrooms were fresh & tender, and yet I can still feel the "impact" of the smoked salmon. They even add more garlic to my order as I've always been a garlic snob. :-)

I have ordered it so much that I no longer look at the menu. I now have a "usual."

I have also had success ordering various different pizzas, and indeed the calzone is a treat!

I gave myself a one month break from Cafe Allegro, but that was over as of today! As a matter of fact, I'm having my smoked salmon fettucini as we speak. :-)

I never write reviews but my experience at Cafe Allegro recently inspired me to warn people that this place isn't what it used to be. First of all, when an Italian place you expect to smell food-especially garlic. It was instantly noticeable that you didn't smell the aroma of food cooking. Then when the food came it was obvious-the stuff was precooked and reheated. I order fettucini alfredo with chicken and got chicken cubes instead of a sliced chicken breast. My wife ordered a chicken and sausage rissotto and got the same chicken cubes-which were coincidently dried out. Furthermore, the place was too cold to take off your jacket. This place used to be a great little place but I will not go back again. The food was simply bland and obviously cooked well ahead of our arrival.

I live near enough I can walk there. My hands-down favorite are the calzones! Too many times, I've been stiffed by the fancy Italian joints that sell too much ambience, and too little food. Nothing is worse than dropping fifty bucks for a meal and then needing to eat on the way home.

At Cafe Allegro, they serve up a generous-sized calzone, at a price a regular working joe like me can afford. Too, the atmosphere is relaxed, the place is clean, and the staff are efficient and friendly.

Used to be "the place", I hear. Tigard isn't known for it's large Italian population and this restaurant is very American. Food is ok, wine list is not great and service tries. It's one of those places you drop into when making a Home Depot run, or something like that. They would really benefit from sprucing up the menu (offering contemporary dishes) and improving the wine list to offer some more upscale choices (but keep them cool in the cellar). Nothing special...

Went to Cafe Allegro last night, thought I would try some pasta. Big mistake. First of all, what's up with the tasteless salad dressing? Had to add bluecheese crumbles to give it some flavor, also why so many bad crouton's on top? So much for the salad, onto the next mess. I ordered the linguine with tomatoes and parmesan cheese, lacked any flavor at all. I personally have never had any good pasta here, I only order the salmon dish wich is always good. Last night, I came here because I was too tired to go anywhere else. I guess I only go this place because it is close to my house. Cafe Allegro, please learn how to season food.

Rather than enduring an unending midday traffic jam on the 99W, I took a serendipitous turn and discovered this charmingly modest place. Not knowing what to expect, I entered this little eatery whereupon I was kindly greeted by a decidedly handsome host.

The restaurant is a clean and simple establishment with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was noticeably neat and tidy, and squeaky clean, themselves.

Lovely, unobtrusive music enhanced the feeling of being hidden away from the hustle and bustle of midday downtown Tigard. I felt transported to a faraway restful place as I perused an impressive menu with even more impressive prices. Very affordable!

The caprese salad is astonishingly beautiful with its stacked presentation, and its simple bold flavor; a good primer for a number of entree selections on the menu.

The food was as pleasing to the palette as to the eye, and each course was timed perfectly. The waiter was attentive, and the chef is gifted. I also enjoyed the crayons and paper provided on the table. Other patrons seemed to be having an enjoyable experience as well.

I recommend this place to anyone!

Pros: Perfect place for an intimate rehersal dinner, or family gathering, or place for couples

Cons: A modestly sized establishment, not a lot of seating for large groups, not a lot of parking

and that is being nice... This review might sound like I am rambling... but I am still utterly shocked as to how bad this place was. Let's get one thing straight. I understand. There is a difference between Italian and Italian-American. So, I put that aside and decided, okay fine.. this is Italian American. Here are the things that should have caught my eye before I sat down:

1) Empty Dining Room
2) Kraft Style Parmesan on the table
3) Pasta w/ red sauce piled on top @ the one table that had two people on it
4) Bread & *butter* on the table

It just got worse. The menu was terrible. Under Italian Staples, or favorites, or whatever they called it... were items such as Fettucine Alfredo and Spaghetti with Meatballs.

Then we have pasta sautee's. What is the deal with green onions? How many dishes with green onions could you possible have?

The closest hope I had to anything descent was peppered chicken fettucine with Marsala. It came with red sauce piled on top... not mixed up. The pasta was overcooked (not close to al dente) and there was way to much flavoring attempts going on.

The olive oil was stale tasting. The only descent food items were the bread and the tiramisu, which I am not sure if it was all that good, but compared to everything else I had, it was amazing. On a scale of 1-10, with never having 10 before... although I have had a 9, and I can easily make a 7 myself.. this Tiramisu was about a 5.

Don't waste your time or your money.

Pros: Seating Close To The Door So You Can Make A Fast Escape. Seated Promptly!

Cons: Food, Smell, Food

My husband and I used a coupon (which had many strings attached so it wasn't really a value) and left at over $40.00 for a dinner of average italian food.

We were seated at this very tiny table -- totally cramped...the next couple is right next to you. There was another group sitting near this wall air unit and one was obviously ill and so our entire meal (when it finally) came was overpowered by the horrible stench of other guest practically sitting on top the blasting heater (because it's a very very very small place). Food took 40 minutes maybe. Long time to suffer.

Good concept, you can tell the owners are trying hard. Just underwhelming for the price and cramped tightness.

I don't know who that previous snob thinks she is, but there are 3 places to eat on Main Street that I frequent! We were recently at Cafe Allegro and the food was excellent. My normally fidgety four-year-old was happy and patient due to the fact she could color on the butcher paper covered table. We both had fun drawing! I have been there for wedding rehearsal dinners, after work with friends, with the family, and alone quietly with my husband. Cafe Allegro has good food and good prices for any occasion. They also serve great wine which can be purchased at Trader Joe's. Everybody wins!

Never again will we be enticed to try a restaurant by a 2 for 1 coupon. The menu lacked most of the classic Italian entrees and was unimaginative. The service was astonishingly slow. The food was bland. The final disappointment was the bill; overpriced. No we didn't have dessert, just show us the door. What can you expect for downtown Tigard.

Pros: seating

Cons: service, food, menu

.

My husband and I had dinner here recently and we left very disappointed. The mozzarella sticks appetizer was served cold in the middle and the lasagna was bascially a big bowl of cheese. We have always loved their lasagna (all 3 of us had the same thing!) and we have no idea why they changed the recipe.

The coconut cake was fabulous as usual, but it did not make-up for the rest of the food. At least the service was excellent. Until we hear that they are making lasagna the way the used to, we will not be back.

Also, I wrote a letter to them telling of our experience and never even received a reply.

Pros: Service

Cons: , Lasagna

This is by far the best italian place my wife and I have been to in Portland. I'll settle for cafe allegro when I can't drive to Abruzzio in Hood River. Allegro has the best Lasagna I have ever tasted. The portions are actually quite filling, and with the entertainment card, the price is right. By all means use your Entertainment card and give Allegro a try.

Pros: Cozy, Reasonable

I've eaten here several times and have never had a bad meal. The service seems a bit inexperienced but the great food makes up for it. I'd recommend it to anyone.

At first we had to wait a long time for a mid-week table when plenty were open. I always realize the wait staff can help only so many, but it is frustraiting. Once we got seated the very helpful host assisted the wait staff on several occasions. Well done on his part. The food: good. My fiancee loved the cajun chicken salad, and the fresh baked break was very good. I had the chicken/artichoke pasta dish which was ok. Too bland, just no flavor. But the portion was huge. I think the menu is hit and miss, but you won't get anything bad. Bland, may be but not bad. They were working hard and I give them credit for holding it together for being unexpectedly packed. We'll go again, but not because it is the best. It is close, they were friendly and the food is reasonable price.
