The Scene
While Salty's may not be keeping up with downtown Seattle's culinary sophistication, it excels at making diners feel comfortable. Service is down-to-earth and reliable, never snobbish. Regulars have long made this their special-occasion restaurant, while others bring visitors to show off the billion-dollar view.

The Food
Stick with the basics, starting with creamy seafood chowder. Coconut prawns have long deserted most menus, but die-hard fans will find them here--an instant flashback to the 1980s. The kitchen's approach to fish leans toward fillets bathed in butter-rich sauces. With steaks, medium-rare often arrives more medium than rare, so err on the rare side when ordering. A popular weekend brunch includes all-you-can-eat crab legs and shellfish, along with crepe, waffle and omelette bars.

Key Points

  • Seafood & Views
  • Sweeping Views of Puget Sound
  • Sunsets over the Olympic Mts.

The Inside Scoop

  1. Look Good - Long decks stretch out on top of the sun-dappled water--bring sunglasses.

Love this place

by Kevin C. | insider Insider | Rank: 25,661

They have the best food and service. We like to go and have a quiet drink in the evening and sit by the water. The location makes you feel like you're in a little remote hideaway. Great stuff.

Generally good

by corby w.

I have been going to Saltys for over 20 years. I had 1 bad experience there with food poison , 10 years ago , and Once again, recently with a snooty manager. Both times they downplayed everything. Overall they hire good help and do their best. I met the owner but he doesnt know me from Adam as I am pretty discreet . I have played guitar with a few of my local musicians there for fun. I think the staff doesnt have to work so hard to please because of the location. If you dont like it go elsewhere , seems to have been the attitude a couple times I was there. Overall they do well.

Excellent seafood and fantastic view!!

by Brian M.

I had a business dinner at Salty's last night and the food was excellent. I had the seafood chowder as an appetizer and the Romano Asagio Halibut with mashed potatoes and vegetables and it was delicious. I would highly recommend Salty's and look forward to hopefully eating there again. Also, the view over Puget Sound made for a great dining experience.

Outdoor Dining on a Sunny Day

by Dorothy S. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,324

I took a friend from Falls Church to lunch and it was a nice day in May so we decided to sit outdoors. She raved about the great views, tasty food and super service. I was pleased that I was able to please her with a super lunch close to home.

The view is stunning from this waterfront restaurant at Redondo in Des Moines. The food is always excellent, as is the service. The food is expensive, but this is fine dining. The perfect place for a special date!

Great Food + Great Service = Salty's at Redondo

by BigRedOne

Salty's at Redondo is always our destination place for a special night out! The food is always wonderful and the service is above average. The chef's fresh market sheet is always a tasty choice but, I have a hard time not ordering the "Crab Mac and Cheese". The bar also has great daily specials (prime rib on friday's for under $20, YUMMY).

I am not sure if the people writing the previous reviews usually eat super-sized Claim Jumper portions but, the portions are more than adequate. I would always rather have quality over quantity. If you are in the area, I highly recommend giving Salty's a try!

Pros: Always Excellant!

Dont ever ever eat here

by bob t

I dont know what it is about Salty's at Redondo. When you walk in its a nice resturaunt but then you see these signs you can put your face in and balloons everywhere it reminded me of Red Robin. Then you sit down and get to looking at the menu. To be honest the menu doesn't sound intriguing at all its like every dish only comes with mash or rice WOW thats a good choice...then when you order your salad it looks like it was just thrown on there. The dishes are sloppy. I wonder what the chef is thinking when he sees this go on. Then its just way to expencive to eat there and not get proper portions. I have so many bad things to say about this resturaunt it boggles my mind. Well pretty much do not eat there its not worth it

Pros: view and location

Cons: the chef

Picturesque

by cutebirdie

Our first visit was to our liking. We had a party of 18 people and they had set up the tables in a platformed area of the restaurant, so we felt we had our own little room, in a sense. The waiter, Noel, was very very accommodating, entertaining, and polite. The food was fresh (most of us ordered halibut), and the prices competitive. The restaurant sits right on the Puget Sound with the beach that adds to the whole experience. The restaurant definitely gave us that sea worthy feeling. Loved it!

Pros: View

Cons: Small spacing, bad parking lot

Brunch: Not exactly an unforgetable experience

by PierreofFrance

Rather disapointing and expensive brunch which does not provide a good value unless you are looking for a lot of food of mediocre quality. I tried a variety of food. Crabs were salty, and dried. Crepes tasted cooking oil instead of butter as they should. Crepe batter was inappropriate for good crepes. Oysters on the shell were small and dry. Roasted beef was overcooked. Salmons (varieties) were overcooked. Sorry, but any standard, none of the food that I tried met the qualification of a good, expensive restaurant. For the price one would expect a lot better. Too bad, because the location of the place is outstanding!

Pros: View if lucky to be seated next to a window facing the Sound

Cons: Very mediocre food

Salty's is the best restaurant in the south sound!!

by northwestgranny

Salty's is my favorite restaurant in the south sound. I can't get enough of their beautiful sunsets. The fun and lively happy hour; the staff at Saltys and the food make every trip memorable. On the weekends they have live music and when live music and happy hour are going on I can't think of a better place to be for dinner . You also can't beat their Sunday brunch. They offer all the favorites wild fresh salmon, crab, shrimp, oysters oh yeah and the ultimate chocolate fountain. As you can tell I spend alot of time at Salty's but with all their wonderful choices and weekly menu changes I will be coming back for years to come. Salty's has hands down the best food, staff and atmosphere in the south sound. Thank you Salty's

Pros: warm friendly staff and delicious food

Cons: I can't eat at Salty's every day

Disappointed

by JC10

A friend and I went to Salty's in Redondo last week and were looking forward to it as it's one of the few restaurants in the Federal Way area that isn't in a strip mall. Unfortunately, it wasn't very good. My girlfriend ordered mussels and the third one she tried was obviously bad so she returned it and it was removed from the bill. A manager came by and mentioned that they'd had previous problem with their supplier. Hopefully, by now they've corrected the problem. Next my salad nicoise arrived execpt that it was nothing like a salad nicoise. It was just a large green salad without the usual tuna, green beans, egg, niceoise olives, new potatoes and capers that are all fairly customary in this dish. After sending back the mussels, I was reluctant to be the ugly customer who complained and sent everything back. Wish I had something better to say about the place. Oh, wait , the view is nice. There...

Pros: Nice view, outdoor dining

Cons: Inconsistant menu quality.

Salty's at Redondo is a wonderful place for a date. Their restaurant is right on the Puget Sound so you have a lovely view of the water as you dine. I went there on Valentines Day and enjoyed their friendly atmosphere. The servers and staff were amazing tending to our every need. The presentation of the food was spot on with a superb taste. Salty?s is a little pricey but definitely worth it!

My recent first time dining experience at Salty's was great. The food was excellent, especially the romano halibut!! I would love to have that recipe. The service was prompt, yet efficient. You can't beat the view and the boardwalk is available to walk along as the sun sets. Overall-everything was FANTASTIC! Especially the attentive service from Stefanie, she ROCKS!!! SALTY'S ROCKS!!! My dining experience at Salty's was very enjoyable. The overall experience met all my expectations. The service was excellent! Our server was on top of it the whole time, we didn't have to ask her for one thing and all of her recommendations were right on. Salty's is also the best place to escape the heat.

Cons: parking

SERVICE

by jdymoreno

MY HUSBAND AND I WENT FOR A SPECIAL EVENT, AND THE FOOD WAS AT LEAST 4 STAR AND CLOSE TO 5. THE SERVICE WAS SOOOOO BAD. WE HAVE NEVER GONE BACK. THE WAITRESS WAS YOUNG BUT SO SNOOTIE, SHE LOOKED DOWN HER NOSE LIKE WE HAD CRAWLED FROM UNDER ONE OF THE ROCKS, ON THE NEAR BY BEACH. SHE FLIPPED THE FOOD AT US AND NEVER RETURNED, THANK GOSH. THE ATTITUDE STARTED AS SOON AS SHE WALKED TO THE TABLE. WE DIDN'T HAVE WINE OR DRINKS BECAUSE OF A PERSCRIPTION AND SHE ACTED AS THOUGH WE HAD COMMITED A CRIME. SHE MAYBE GONE, BUT WORRY THAT IS THE TYPE OF HELP THEY HIRE OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Pros: FOOD, VIEW, QUIET,

Cons: SERVICE

A hidden gem on Puget Sound with great seafood and waterfront views!

by beckmiller444

Most people don't even know this place exists! It's a hidden gem on Puget Sound somewhere south of Des Moines and north of Federal Way. There's a beach where you can get your feet wet - well, that is if you're not too dressed up anyway - and, hey, you don't have to dress up! The seafood dishes are extraordinary. No kidding. They arrive at your table with great service - the servers are totally into what they do. Smiles! Smiles! Smiles! You're gonna feel like you're eating in your own home. The seafood includes salmon, halibut, clams, oysters - everything you love about living in the northwest - steaks too. The view is incredibly gorgeous especially when the sun sets over the Olympic Mts (if only we could own one of those homes on the water!). They have decks all around the building with plenty of outdoor seating - just be sure to make reservations (it gets packed when the sun comes out - everyone in the northwest has to get outside when the sun finally arrives). Plan to walk along the beach after your meal - it's a total northwest experience.

Pros: Hidden gem on the water with incredible seafood.

Cons: Best to make reservations.

Went there with a large wedding party - was terribly disappointed. Horrible service, horrible food. Out of 17 people who attended, 2 enjoyed their food, and they ordered the chicken strips and fries. It costed over $600 and made for a very uncomfortable situation.

Romantic & Great View

On a recent visit, our sauteed halibut entree was fabulous and the warm sunny day gave us a great view from our window table. We watched the local divers surface near the pier. We'll definitely be back again to savor more of their seafood specialities!

Pros: Fresh, fresh seafood, Great menu variety, Not very noisy

Salty's has wonderful ambiance and the food is fabulous, but the view is INCREDIBLE!! I could just
stare out the window at the city scape all day and night.

It is my favorite Seattle restaurant!

Disappointing

by mrcb8man

I went to this restaurant expecting great service, food and decor but I was severely disappointed. This dinning area reminds me of Red Lobster and the food made me feel unsatisfied afterwards. The service was horrible, having to wait what seemed like hours just for the waiter to return with a tea. I'd go to Flying Fish in Belltown instead, it is much better and worth the price.

Pros: view

Cons: food, ambience, service

great food, wine, & live music w/ a view

by melzb

My husband & I celebrated our engagement with dinner at Salty's. The food was excellent and the wait staff very friendly. We don't go their often, but those waiters still remember us and are always very friendly.

We've been back a few times to enjoy their live music and a glass of wine... The only draw back is it draws a good crowd and seating is very limited.

Pros: live music in bar

Cons: limited bar seating

Very excellent food, horrific service

by tomario

Salty's provides the best seafood I have ever had. The service is painfully lacking. The servers aren't as attractive as they seem to think they are. A request for a wine selection was greeted with snootiness and then little direction. This works in situations when the wine list is minimal, but, the Salty's wine list is way too extensive.
