So kind, so caring, so great
by Holly M.
We left our two very small, very timid Yorkies' here for a week. This was a first for us and we were more nervous than the pups. The staff was so kind and responded to our every need - even to my calls to check on things. When we arrived to pick them up (early) they were in the office getting lots of extra attention. I read the other reviews before we went so we checked out the concerns raised - we found no issues. Also the charges for the "extras" were less than other facilities that were not near as nice. This will be a regular vacation spot for our babes!

My cat really did well here
by Ellen P.
I travel on business and sometimes have to leave my cat here when I am gone for an extended period of time. I love my cat very much and her health and security are very imortatnt to me. I hate leaving her anywhere but have to admit she does really well in the kitty suites and seems to like the staff that spend alot of time in the cattery. I have been taking her hear for years and have only used the Paradise Pet Lodge in the past which I really liked but my cat did not. I strongly recomend this place the cats all seem content to me. I think this is my first online recommendation of anything...

Already scared
by Anonymous
I'm in a pinch and needed to make arrangements to take my two yellow labs to Hillrose while I travel in August. The girl at the front desk is so rude on the phone, I can't imagine my dogs will be treated nicely at all!! She was completely disconnected and kept asking the same questions over and over again. I pray that some of the housesitters I've contacted will call me back so I can cancel this reservation. From the screaming dogs I hear in the background, I imagine mine will come home totally stressed out. I hate taking my dogs to a place like this. At least when it was run as Atwoods the employees (I used them once 5 years ago) were totally sweet to the dogs and loved them.

We periodically leave our dog at Hillrose (formerly Atwood's), but usually only for a couple of days at a time. The facility is clean and the staff are competent if inefficient. Our main complaint stems from their tendency to add "extra" charges for almost everything: medicine ($0.50 per tablet per dose), play times (I think it's $4 for a 15-minute play time), and the like. It's confusing and inconvenient, but more than that, it's really expensive, and it's not like their daily rates are cheap -- they're in the neighborhood of $23-26 depending on size. You'd think those rates would include normal levels of TLC for Rover (not his real name). Basically these guys are a fallback for us, and I wouldn't leave our dog there other than in a pinch.

My dogs love Atwood's (now Hillrose)
by Sandy S.
We have taken our dogs to Atwood's/Hillrose for several years, about six times each year, for weekends or even 10 days at a time. They always come home happy and well cared for. Sometimes they even seem torn about leaving their friends at the kennel. The people who work there are genuinely caring and responsible. I've toured the kennels and they're very clean. One of my dogs is an oldster, and they take extra special care of him, just as I do. You can trust this place with your beloved pets.
PROS: Close to airport, staff genuinely loves animals, prices are reasonable
CONS: none

This is a great pet boarding place! They are very clean and the place seems to be well sanitized. The pets there all seem very happy. They took very good care of my dog while we were gone on vacation. They have a variety of room styles, from basic, to family (if you have more than one pet and dont want them separated), to suites - for dogs. For cats they have regular rooms and some sort of pet condo for more than one cat in a family. They also provide pet daycare for people who dont want to or for behavior reasons cant leave their pet home alone during the day. They are very sweet and loving with the pets there. It wasnt just because I was there, because I live nearby and every time I drive by and see the workers outside exercising the pets they look sincerely happy to be playing and loving on them. Their prices are quite reasonable (dogs are based on weight).

Very Good
by jmks
The staff was great! Very friendly and accommodating every time I called and at pick up / drop off (don't know what the two other reviewers were talking about!).
My dog came back from a week long stay at this place happy, safe, and clean. His toys and towel were returned to me, obviously unwashed, and I was very pleased to find they smelled only like 'dog' (no urine or feces smells), so I assume they kept his space clean. He looks like he lost a little weight, but he's never interested in food at home and generally won't eat unless we make a game out of it anyway. I was most happy to see that my, usually timid, little boy showed an interest in the staff and what they were doing when I picked him up. The price was a little higher than the one other time I've had him boarded ($5/day more, $1/day extra for him using his own food and $18 more for 3 playtimes I scheduled him for), but he seems healthy and I doubt I'll be spending $130 on a vet bill for a urinary tract infection, he came out very well groomed, not stinking and, most importantly, as happy as ever - it's definitely worth the extra cost for us!
Hillrose is close to the airport, and has extended hours for convenience. I was worried about the loud noises from the planes frightening him, but he seems very happy.
I'm pleased with their service and would have no worries boarding him there again if the need for it arises!
Pros: Customer Service, Cleanliness, Extended Hours, Proximity to Airport
Cons: Bit expensive for me, but worth the costs for a healthy, happy dog.

Too large and impersonal
by bluedevil79
We left our two dogs there for two nights over the weekend. When we showed up to check-in, the staff was impersonal. You cannot leave any bedding with your pets, except a towel or t-shirt. They say that bedding is provided, but they will not show the facilities. They conduct tours only twice a week and absolutely will not show the facility any other time. This leads me to believe they spruce up the place before a tour to give an "ideal" appearance. They will only give you a "virtual tour" via a DVD, but the DVD shows no bedding in the kennels. They claim the DVD is out-of-date, but again, will not give an impromptu tour. The dogs stayed in the same enclosure. When we arrived to pick them up, the people, again, were not friendly. They only know your pet by the kennel number, and they tell you your dog had a nice visit, only if you ask. There is no personal touch to this place at all. One came back sick and lethargic and looked like he had lost weight. They never mentioned any problems. They both smelled terrible and we had to wash them immediately when we got home. The website description and photos lead you to believe this is a great place, but I do not recommend anyone take their pets there. You also have to purchase playtimes for your dog, which we did. Our one dog came back so stressed and sick that we can't imagine anyone gave him any personal attention or they would have noticed and informed us. The only positive thing about this place is that they are open on the weekends and for late pick-ups on Sunday nights.
Pros: Weekend hours
Cons: Impersonal, poor customer service, no impromptu tours

We'll leave our dog friend there in the future!
by luluchalupa
We were extremely pleased with the staff and facility of Hillrose Pet Resort. It was the first time we had to leave our little chihuahua, Lulu, and we left her there with confidence. Of course, she got to stay in the office and spent a lot of her time there cuddled up on the staff's lap! I really can't comment on the outdoors areas or the kennel areas. What we saw was very nice & clean. The staff was very friendly.
Pros: Friendly staff, nice facility, fair prices
Cons: wish they opened up much earlier so we can catch early flights.
