There is no need to tell that our pets are members of our family and we personally did not call ours a Pet but "our boy"
In almost 12 years our boy had a pretty healthy life and was treated by a traditional vet, no regrets or complaints about that. One day tragedy struck. The boy had a slipped disk on his neck and he was literally on the floor and wan't able to stand up even less walk. Naturally we went to our vet and after check up, the recommendation was to take him to a neurologist, since they suspect surgery will be needed.
After neurologist visit, the worst was once again confirmed. Surgery was needed right away and not to mention the thousands we spent on the studies. We went to a 3rd specialist and the same diagnosis. Surgery now. Is fair to mention that a slipped disk surgery is basically opening the throat, move the trachea to the side and drill the spine to make space between them. Not a nice picture and not to mention the painful recovery a dog will need to go thru after such an invasive action with a risk of not being able to walk after it.
On our way home we call a friend who was telling us about "this amazing" doctor in South Miami, that practiced alternative medicine and has made great improvements on her dog.
We took all the studies to Dr. Ferran and the next day we carry our boy in our arms to the clinic.
Dr. Ferran applied needles and laser one time?. another time 2 days later. One more time 2 days after?. That day and against all odds our boy stepped on his 4 legs and walk out the clinic by himself !
Miracle? Magic? Nope. It is the natural approach. The logic action of nature. Without invasive knives. Without toxic medicines.
20 years of knowledge, love and using the basics of thousands of years of alternative medicine.
After 2 months of treatments our boy was discharged and he feels better than ever.
No words to thanks such an amazing team of professionals and super friendly staff. Dr. Ferran is not only the best doctor we ever met, but an amazing human being.
Final note: We were assisting to one of the treatments sessions one day and we were amazed of the improvement and Dr. Ferran whispered: "give time and nature can do amazing things"
Dr. Ferran has been my pets vet for 16 years. I have dogs & cats and he loves and cares for them all the same! He has an amazing amount of knowledge in veterinary medicine as well as holistic medicine. As a client, he can offer you & your pet treatment choices based on his broad knowledge of western & eastern medicine that other vets can't. Over the years my pets have had everything from simple checkups to major surgery by Dr. Ferran with outstanding results. He is kind and very personable, his staff is super friendly, the office is really clean and it smells nice too!
On May 31, 2012 my local veterinarian diagnosed my 3 year old Great Dane, Chloe, with Wobblers. This was just a confirmation for me. (I knew she had Wobblers as I had a 2 year old Dane diagnosed with Wobblers and euthanized approximately 20 years ago.) Chloe??s condition was deteriorating very rapidly. My local vet put her on strict bed rest and she was never to wear a collar again. The day she was diagnosed she could barely walk in or out of the vet??s office. It took 2 or 3 of us to get her in and out of my SUV. I was referred to the Animal Specialty Hospital in town who had a neurologist on staff. Over the phone they said they could possibly help her with a surgical procedure to her cervical spine. after reading about this procedure I knew it was not an option for Chloe. I was not going to put my dog through a long, penned up, painful recovery time that may or may not work and she would have restrictions for the rest of her life. You see, Chloe was different from every Dane I have ever had (I have had 5 Danes). Her spirit is rambunctious, mischievous, and extremely full of life and curiosity. She is also the most loving sweet dog I have ever known. We call her the GIANT dog! My husband and I had made an appointment to euthanize Chloe 10 days after her diagnosis. She could no longer walk and had to lie down to do her business. She had become very lethargic and fatigued and had stopped eating. She had lost 15 pounds. As she was rapidly declining I was frantically ??googling? away. I have become a walking encyclopedia on Wobblers disease. I finally found ??GreatDaneLady.com? website one late night while ??googling? in bed. Not only did it have great articles about Wobblers but it also had some suggestions for treatment. One of the treatments was called ??Gold Bead Implants?, which is a form of permanent acupuncture for dogs! I was gaining hope! Also in the website was a directory of veterinarians in the nation who did the Gold Bead Implants! I was elated and could not wait until morning to call the vet that was listed in Miami, FL. The next day I called and sure enough they asked for me to mail Chloe??s x-rays and records to them! I overnighted all that they wanted, cancelled Chloe??s euthanasia and made an appointment for Chloe to see Dr. Ferran in Miami for June 15. On June 15, my husband and I and a neighbor lifted our paralyzed princess into the back of my SUV and made a mad dash for the vet??s office in Miami. Again it took two of us to lift her out. Dr. Ferran evaluated her?my emotions were very high and he consoled me as I asked him if he had ever seen a case of Wobblers this bad. She could not walk! He said he had seen worse! Again I had hope! After his evaluation he said yes, he could treat Chloe with the gold beads !!!! I left her with Dr. Ferran and his staff and tried to keep my mind occupied with shopping and seeing a movie as he had said he would have her all day! Finally at the end of the day he called and said I could come to pick her up and take her home! I got to his office, they brought out our princess and she RAN to my SUV with assistance of 2 of the vet techs. WOW! We all lifted her into the car and Chloe and I were homeward bound! Dr. Ferran said to give it time and have Chloe take it easy, that she was just to go outside to do her business and that was all. He called me twice a day for 4 days checking on her progress. I have to say we have experienced a MIRACLE!!! Each and every day, Chloe improved! She started walking almost immediately, still with a ??wobble?, yet at least walking. She slowly started to eat again and play with her babies. GOD was good! As each day passed she walked better. 2 weeks later she was trotting. July 4, she was chasing the ducks, leaping onto our king size bed, playing with her babies and our 2nd dog and driving our cat crazy! Today, I have to say she is back to her normal, mischievous self. Maybe even better! Upon our 2 week follow up visit with Dr. Ferran he said Chloe would live out her natural life! THANK GOD! WE ARE ECSTATIC! (continued onto next page)
I have to say that the Great Dane Lady, Dr. Ferran and GOD have saved Chloe??s life! This is purely a MIRACLE and I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Ferran. He is a kind devoted soul who cares deeply for his patients. Thank you so much for your life saving website Great Dane Lady! I want to be an advocate for all dogs that are diagnosed with wobblers! Gold Bead Implants treat many other conditions as well and I would highly recommend people look into this alternative healing method! With much love,
Gail and Tony, and CHLOE, the GIANT DOG!
I believe that God created dogs to to teach us what unconditional love really is.....
We were blessed with the most amazing lab he truly is our child and brings joy to us every day. He was born with a body that I wouldn't wish upon anyone, he has had two hip replacements that worked very well for 8 years, we thought they would last for his lifespan but we were wrong. Our world came crashing down and went in slow motion with everything around us spinning on October 14th, 2010 that was 2 months after he had to have his one hip replacement removed because it failed. Tigger was on the mend and than one day his back legs started not working we thought it was from the removal of the artificial hip, it took several months and many specialist to realize it was neurological. We finally knew what was wrong and I was on this crazy mission to "fix" our child. We had a team of Doctors and were spending crazy amounts of money and driving all over Florida for specialist but I wasn't happy with his state of being and kept being told this was as good as he would be but couldn't accept that and wouldn't. Our acupuncture doctor in Dunedin Florida Dr. Todd who I adore and believe is one of the many angels God put in our path recommended Dr. Robert Ferran. As I am writing this I am crying because without Dr. Ferran and his amazing staff at Ludlam Dixie Animal Hospital my amazing Tigger would not be laying next to me! Dr. Ferran really listened to us and helped us through the journey of really figuring out was was wrong with Tigger. He arranged appointments with specialist, he had total communication between all of them and us so we could understand in laymen terms of what was going on, he called everyday to check on him and gave us a honest evaluation of how to move forward. I had peace for the first time and knew that what he said was truly the best decision for our child. We proceeded forward with acupuncture, homeopath, laser therapy and recently gold bead implants. Tigger will never run after a ball again or walk down our stairs but because of his treatments he is able to walk again, and roll in the grass and even go swimming!. I adore everyone there and only wish we lived closer..... I forgot to mention we live in St. Petersburg Florida, people think I'm crazy and thats ok because when we go to Dr. Ferran's Tigger doesn't cry, or shake or even look back at me, he walks in pushes the door open and is excited to have Juan take him back for his session!
Dr. Ferran is an amazing person and Doctor and I highly recommend him.
When I rescued my new dog, Mika, I knew that no matter how many miles I had to drive, Dr. Ferran was going to be his Vet. I have known Dr. Ferran for over 10 years and I have to say he is an extraordinary Vet. Dr. Ferran has tremendous knowledge and expertise with both holistic and conventional medicine. He is a caring and compassionate person? You can just tell he genuinely cares for my dog.
He has always been honest in discussing Mika??s treatment options and he has no problem answering my endless list of questions!
As long as Ludlam Dixie Animal Clinic is open I will continue to take my pets to Dr. Ferran. ??Sylvia
I??ve been taking my cats to Dr. Ferran at Ludlam Dixie Animal Clinic for over 10 years now. Dr. Ferran and the staff are professional, trust-worthy, kindhearted, and compassionate. They build bonds with their clients ?? the furry kind and the human kind. My cats have had/have their health issues and Dr. Ferran & Staff always give my cats first-class treatment and continuously monitor every health concern. One of my cat??s receives acupuncture for arthritis along with treatment for hyperthyroidism. Dr. Ferran has been incredible with keeping me informed with her health and always patient with my questions. I couldn??t recommend another veterinarian anymore then Dr. Ferran - He's an extraordinary Vet and an Awesome Guy!
I brought my 1 year old dog to see Dr. Ferran after having elbow surgery. His arm was so atrophied that he just wouldn't use it. Dr. Ferran recommended gold bead implants and acupuncture. Slowly but surely he started putting weight on his arm. We have been going back ever since for acupuncture and it really makes a difference. Dr. Ferran is a wonderful person who really cares about his patients and has a lot of knowledge. In my experience, Dr. Ferran gives you the information you need to know and gives his opinion, but lets you decide in the end. I would absolutely recommend him to any pet owner.
I've been a dog owner for 12+ years and I never had good experiences at the vet. I was recommended to Dr. Ferran and I can say that I won't have to look for a new vet anytime soon. He is really professional, very knowledgeable and his staff is extremely attentive and caring. I'm barely in the waiting room which is good because my dog tends to get nervous around other dogs. He tells you exactly what you need to do and how much you're going to spend. Doesn't try to rip you off by selling you medications/treatments that your dog doesnt need. I definitely recommend Ludlam Dixie Animal Clinic.
A friend of ours recommended Dr. Ferran in 2010 when our 13 year old lab was having problems walking.
I met with Dr. Ferran and knew I was in the right spot for our labs continued care. Dr. Ferran suggested gold beads and acupuncture and we proceeded with the treatment and our lab had her spunk back to her walk and was able to go up stairs again, get up from lying down without the struggle she had previously had, etc. Dr. Ferran gave our lab a quality of life which she would not have had until she was almost 15. That might not sound like a lot but with a lab to reach the age that our lab did and still be mobile up to the end is a very important.
I am not one to do reviews but when I see a review that is so opposite of what I know to be true with an individual or company that I am dealing with I have to point out another side and I was surprised at the review previously written.
I want to point out that Dr. Ferran's office does return calls, calls on weekends to check on patients who have been treated by his office. We have our own business and sometimes you know when you just aren't going to please someone no matter what you do and I do believe the individual that wrote the bad review was one of those individuals. But trust me Dr. Ferran has a kind and gentle heart and he knows what he is doing and goes beyond many other vets that you will meet.
We have two labs that are now going to Dr. Ferran and we couldn't be happier with Dr. Ferran and his staff and so are our labs.

I have known Dr. Ferran for over 6 years and during that time he has proven to be a dedicated and caring Vet. He treats your pet as if it were his own. He will not subject your pet to any unnecessary procedures. Dr. Ferran takes the time in examining your pet in order to come up with right the course of treatment that is necessary.

I have been going to Dr Ferran with my dog who means all the world to us for over 7 years and I have nothing but praise and respect for the way he has taken care of her.
He approaches the treatment of his patients both conventionally and holistically and always has the best interest of the animal at heart.
Dr Ferran and his staff have always followed up after our dog has had any type of procedure large or small.
I have recommended him to several friends and they have all been very pleased.
He and all his staff are the BEST in Miami!!!

I have been going to Ludlam Dixie Animal Clinic for over 15 years and I would highly recommend Dr.Ferran and his staff. He is the only vet I know who is not locked into a particular form of medicine. He once told me I will do whatever it takes to help an animal get better , if it's , acupunture ,herbs or conventional medicine.
I have a golden retriever that I found; her hips were so bad that after a 2 block walk she would sit because of the pain. I took her to Dr. Ferran and he recommended gold acupuncture beads that was 9 years ago . When I tell people how bad her hips are they don't believe me because she runs and plays with my other dog and her friends.
Ihave another dog who I thought needed acupuncture and he said no she did not need it, and he said let's try some conventional medicine and it fixed the problem.
Dr.Ferran treats his animals as if they were his own and his staff is very considerate and kind.

Robert Ferran is, by far, the most dedicated and caring Vet I have ever met in my many years of both rescue and owning dogs. Ask anyone in his waiting room, and they will tell you that there is no one like him. His approach is different than other Vets, who look at your pet for 5 minutes, prescribe meds, and hope for the best. He takes the time to get to really know your pet before deciding on treatment.
He is a gift to both his patients and their lucky owners.
I don't appreciate working with a vet who refuses to listen to the client. Believe it or not, we know our pets best, not you. Perhaps taking a more collaborative approach could have saved this client relationship. I asked for a call back and received nothing. They didn't even try to understand my position. The support staff echoed the same sentiment - our way or the highway. I chose the highway.

We brought our dog there who hadn't been walking due to a play accident. Dr.Ferran saw our pet and our dog left walking. It was a true miracle. The staff is wonderful, they really try to work with your schedule. If anyone has a heart and a pet they love I would highly recommend seeing this doctor.
Pros: sweet staff, great doctor, fair prices.
Cons: there are none
