Since it opened, I have always enjoyed eating here, and we have our own sets of chopsticks on reserve. There are some traditional Japanese foods, like miso soup, edamame and tempura. The ahi tower, which they claim as their original

First time I have ever been and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. The sushi was ok, not to bad, the service was excellent. BUT the place looked old and tired.Scuffs all over the floor, unbused tables, chips in the faded paint. 2 Live Crew on the speakers ( no joke here ). Decorated like they went to Garden Ridge across the street. I didnt get the hype. I might be back, but there are too many choices in RR.

First, upon entering, I heard 'Yobo Seo' which is a greeting in Korean. The correct greeting in Japanese would be, 'Irashaimase'............rice was undercooked in my original plate and in the bowl they brought me to make up for the first rice. If the rice isn't right, .....look out! Owner / manager wanted to give me sushi rice instead....which is covered in vinegar.......please! He commented to me, "wow, you must really like sticky rice." I replied, "No, I just like my rice cooked properly." Also; chicken katsu was way over cooked ....dry like cardboard.
Soft shell crab was obviously prepared beforehand. This is a roll that should be served warm! Salmon sushi was good. Service was great considering the food.....Will I go back you ask?..........Uh......no.

This place didn't look too great based on its location, so it took us a while to go try it. But boy was it awesome. We started off with with Ahi Bowl (or Ahi Tower, I forget the exact name), and it was unbelievably good. The sushi was the right temperature, fresh, and beautifully presented. Atmosphere inside was also very nice. We like sushi and have tried a few places in Austin since moving here, and this has been by far the best.

Pros: Great food, great happy hour prices

Wait person took our AmEx card then came back with a small register paper said invalid amount or something like that. What we thought is they don't like to take AmEx then just simple take the sign out. We just gave her another card to use.
Service is also poor

I don't eat Sushi but my fiance loves it so we decided to go here. He loved all the sushi he had. We also ordered the calamari as a starter and it was by far the best calamari I've ever had! I had the spicy chicken and it was excellent. I would definitely recommend it and don't be fooled by the location. The inside of the restaurant is very nice looking and it has a great ambience.

Beluga is by far my favorite sushi restaurant in the Austin area. We've tried several great sushi bars in Austin, but Beluga in Round Rock beats them all. The sushi is great and they have a great happy hour on Fridays. Check it out!

Have had dinner at Beluga three times and each time it has been equally wonderful and the service great. The Ahi Tower is an artistic dish with the final preparation/served and divided among guests at the table. The Yellowtail rolls, and fresh salmon sushi & sashimi are fantastic. Other favs of our group are the Firecracker, Black Widow and Volcano (scallops). The ginger dressing on the house salad is so tasty. They make a nice dirty martini. Glad to have a favorite spot on the north side.

My family and I visited Beluga last Friday night before catching a movie and it was great. Our waitress Summer was fantastic and suggested several things that she thought we would enjoy. They were great and probably things we would have never ordered on our own. We felt like our service was very personal and another thing is the ahi tower was fantastic! We had never tried it before and so glad we did! We will keep coming back, and love this "jewel" of a restraurant is in our own neghborhood!

I really do not understand the two reviews before mine. However me and some friends was told about Belugas through some others friends, so we thought we would give it a shot. Which was a true shot concidering we all live in south austin and its in Round Rock. We were greeted, and seated promptly. We had a party of 5, but instead of sitting at a table we sat at the sushi bar. Our server was Lisa. Awesome waitress. Not only did she recommend things but she keep our party in good spirits and laughs the whole time. Highly recommend the Ahi Tower. Great starter. Then the rolls a must would be Mr. Smith and the Jen-Jen. Sushi is great as well as the chefs preparing them. The guys were laughing with us as well as giving us other things to taste. So if you want somewhere north to eat sushi this is the place. Not sure but maybe these people before me had a bad day. But this place, food, and staff was great. Me and my boyfriend will be back and bring more friends.. And to whom ever wrote the thing about the manager, get a grip.

I came here a few weeks ago with a friend and I'd have to say the food was really good. The waitstaff was unprofessional and didn't seem to know anything though, and that was kind of interesting. My friend mentioned they had a great staff at one point but now she said they all seemed to not be there anymore and that the food isn't as great as she remembered.
The Ahi tower was to DIE for! I'm craving it right now! Another thing that I enjoyed was the Salmon Carpaccio. Very simple but light and delicious. I'd definitely go back for those items.

The review about the manager is just plain rude. I've worked as a waitress before and malicious comments like that is unnecessary.. they're trying to do their job.

i was recently told to check out a couple of sushi bars in round rock. dined at beluga and origami. the food at beluga was o.k. nice ambiance if you enjoy dining in a club like atmosphere. the service was good but not entirely friendly. the tuna tower came highly recommended(dont get it!). expensive for what it was. felt like i was pay for the presentation of sauces, not the food. the fish quality seemed just o.k.
i ordered a cocktail and had to give them my license for some "county" thing(whats with that?)

We had the best time here with the best sushi we have ever tasted! We have "done " sushi in many places. Most three times the price of this...but this was so amazingly yummy...Blue Goose happiness in my mouth...volcano...oh yes oh yesssss perfect spice... Black Widow.....little caviar bursts..crunchies ...smoothness..amusment park of taste and texture...Food is top notch....
BUT....the service!!! Last time we went we had five kids with us ( 10-16) who are not the most sophisticated children or manerly..but they were given a list of specific allowed behaviours...Our server...I wish I could remember her name! Was fabulous..she made food sugestions for the won't eat aything kids...and served us as if we were royality.. not a glass went dry...not a dish was forgotten...she had a great wine recomendation...and was very knowledgeable about the food and ingriedents. We came out of there disapointed to see we were in Round Rock Texas because for almost two hours we felt like we were in the finest of NY or LA places. Fabulous!

We eat at Beluga's about once a week either lunch or dinner. We love it here. Seriously, the food is great & the service has been fabulous.

Kelly is an amazing waitress. She knows exactly what we're drinking when we sit down. She's never made a bad recomendation as far new things to try. So helpful, So sweet.... If you get in her section, tip her well. She does a wonderful job.

Jay & Eric are great if you ever have comments, good or bad. When Fish worked there, he was just as great before moving to Florida. Both Jay and Eric are very hands on and so attentive to their customers. More often then not, you'll see behind the Sushi bar helping the guys out & Eric is always walking around making sure everything is going smoothly.

And the food... Oh, try the Ahi Tower with toasted nori to wrap bites of it up in. The escolar is perfect. melt inyour mouth, beautiful sahusi/sashimi. When you're at the sushi bar and the chefs offer something new to try, try it. They've never steered us wrong.

Great specials to try too. our favorites are Sushi Happy hour from 5-7 during the week & 1/2 price sake on Friday nights.

If you've not been here yet or in awhile, you have to try it. From outside, it's hard to imagine what you see on the inside. Once you're inside, there is great atmosphere, great music, & exceptional food!!!

i cannot believe that this place stays in business. no one knows what is going on...sushi food was horrible and everything is so inconsistent. i have been a regular and tried to give it another try after another try but my last visit was my last. the wait staff are unprofessional and clueless and the food is not fresh at all anymore. everything just feels off there. something that was once good has fallen off the map. even my drink tasted like sh*t. Bad environment. bad service. not recommended. just don't waste your money on the food or gas to go there

I have eaten here consistently since moving from Dallas over 18 months ago but recently the service has gotten really bad. I usually eat here for lunch (I work at Dell) and noticed the past couple of visits you seemed to be forgotten about ??. my husband and I went on Friday night the experience was so bad I will never go back! I ordered something new and when they finally brought it, after my husband had finished all his sushi, it wasn't what I expected. I went to the hostess stand to get a menu to make sure I ordered the correct thing, when I got back to the table a lady was there (not the waitress) asking if everything was o.k. I explained what I ordered and how I thought it was different than what they gave me. She said "this isn't what you ordered let me take it back". Then she came back to our table, with the sushi (that had been carried back and forth to the table 2 times) and said that she was wrong this was what I ordered, I then told her what I expected it to be. She told me to taste it and I would see that the sauce was spicy; I explained that I had tasted it and I didn't like it. She started to walk off and then turned around when she noticed I wasn't eating eat, picked up the plate and then said "I will just take it off then". She comes back and throws the check on the table, while continuing to walk, and said ?I took it off for you.? I was appalled, not once did we ask for it to be removed from the check, sushi corrected, etc... The sad thing is all she had to do was LISTEN to what I was saying to know all I wanted was some spicy mayo. Now they have lost our business and I will relive my experience to everyone I work with at Dell. And where did the owner go? He was ALWAYS in there overseeing things.

Some friends and I found this place earlier this year and have been a bunch of times since. The food is great and so reasonably priced. However on our last visit our server, who seemed very young and very inexperienced, may have changed my mind about Beluga. Even in ordering the simplest menu items, she got them wrong and it took forever, not to mention the length of time to get drinks! The manager tried to step in but he wasn't much help either. The place was not busy- there were only three other tables while we were there!
We'll think twice about going there again due to the service, but as always- hats off to the sushi chefs! The food is fantastic.

I was amazed when I first tried Beluga. The atmosphere is spectacular, the wait staff friendly and knowledgeable, and the sushi - amazing!!! And very reasonably priced, which is what keeps me coming back for more. Whenever I have guests in town, or friends in the area, this is the restaurant I drag them to, and not one has ever been disappointed. Hats off to Beluga - I'll be seeing you again soon.

YUM-O! This ain't no 2nd class, run of the mill sushi place that can't compete with Austin establishments. It is AWESOME. Not only is the food excellent, the prices are reasonable & the ambiance is great. Every weekday lunch & happy hour they have 2-for-1 sushi (not including the rolls though), and on Saturday they have all-u-can-eat for $35/person. If you like spicy, then definitely try Chef RIch's original FIrecracker Roll! Definitely worth the drive (even from South Austin ).

This is for all the sushi lovers out in the Austin area.
Tonight was my first night eating at Beluga and all I have to say I'll be returning and informing all my friends and co-workers. Everything was perfect from the minute we walked in the door. The host who sat us was really nice and turned out to be our waiter too. He made us feel very comfrontable and he treated us like we were family. I recongnized him from another restuarant where he waited tables before and the luck we had running in to him. Service was top-notched and the food was to die for! He recommended rolls i haven't had anywhere else and I can see why. He was on top of everything and our drinks were always full. As I was reading the other reviews and read that the food was expensive. To us it was rightly priced for the quality of the food and I don't mind spending big bucks for the sushi I had tonight. I highly recommend Beluga for any occasion and they will be seeing us a lot more. Ask for Peter next time you come in if he's there. Enjoy!

i cant help but wandered that soo many bad reviews regarding this restaurant so i take a trip this morning and went there and check out the scene during lunch and dinner time

i look up the menu and it says 2 for 1 sushi at lunch time so i went and order some tuna salmon and yellow tail sushi.. food comes within 15 minutes . there were 4 pieces per order instead of 2 pieces. so its almost a dollar sushi... sushi as freakin delicious. not the best cut but at least its fresh.then i look at the menu and they have SAKE TORO($14) and BLUE FIN TORO ($25)

for me 25 dollars or a sashimi isnt my daily lunch meal but i gave it a try.. its good and smooth.. trust me go to any japanese restaurant and ask them about the blue fin toro.. i dont even think they have it!

for the service i realized my waitress have a guy keep following him. and he looks young, turns out he is a trainee.. my experience with the service are excelent. ( drinks always full. food comes a decent time. no mistake.) so to say a bad service in the internet are just completely dumb.. if u have bad service .. no need to be shy or whatever. tell them you wanted to see jay / eric the manager that the service are horrible

thats why i gave beluga 3 stars only since they still hiring new people to become a wait staff

Really not the best I've had. It's ok when you're in a hurry and just want to get some sushi. The salmon sashimi I got was way too stringy. The tuna was mediocre at best. Not sweet, just blah. Not acceptable. Ahi tower is tasty. Jay and Fish (the owners) are nice guys, but the fish needs to improve on flavor and texture. For the amount of money that we spent, I'd rather go to Tomodashi on Parmer.

Cons: fish quality is not good

Normally I don't rate down a good restaurant like Beluga. However, in this case I am trying to find an outlet to tell the owners in some way. The food as I mentioned if excellent. Start with the Tuna Tower, a very unique combination out of Tuna, rice and spices not only beautiful in the presentation also excellent in taste. All rolls are great and another favorite is the Summer Rolls (fancy spring rolls) and the Beef Sushi.
Now to the service. The spot has become hip lately and plays the music a little to loud sometimes. All not a big problem, the bar is excellent to unwind and restaurant is nice and clean. We have been multiple times during the week where we asked to be seated in a quit spot or booth and have gotten the reply they are reserved. Only to sit over dinner for 2 hours and non of the booths or quit spots are taken. I've explicitly asked if you need to make a reservation for the booth as they always try to place to close to the music and after a long day at the office I don't want to shout over the music to have a conversation with my wife (sorry I'm really unreasonable there). The last two times we basically walked off after they told us the quit place in the back are all "taken" and went to Gumbo's and Main Street... sorry folks if you can send away fairly frequent customers that spend a $100 for dinner... event the best food cannot make up for it.

Pros: Food

Cons: Service, Seating, Noise

Our waiter was extremely nice and definitly a sushi person, made great recomendations and was very friendly. They have good daily specials and lunch menu, great offers like 2x1 and percentages of if you walk in with the Beluga Logo! Tempura was a bit too crunchy, definitly not done by a japanese staff since the place is owned by koreans... Great decoration, even on the food.

My husband and I are huge sushi lovers and have really enjoyed the food at Beluga every time we've dined there. It is a wee bit pricey, but the fish is incredibly fresh and there are some really innovative creations on the menu. The Ahi Tower is to die for, and the Summer Roll is always awesome, too. The service has been mixed, but mostly good. Our most recent server was extremely friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very sophisticated and upscale.

I don't think the employees even know whats on the menu.
We saw the menu online and decided to get some Sushi take out from Beluga in Round Rock. You would think, we wouldn't run into poor service when you only need to pick up food. Well, we called to place our order and had to repeat our order about 5 times before the lady on the line finally understood (or so we thought!). Five minutes later our phones rings (after we close the website with the menu and rates), and the same lady informs us that the chicken skewers were not available. Could we substitute it with Teriyaki Chicken? There was some god awful mucsic playing in the back ground and we could barely hear her. We said ok not knowing that it cost more than 3 times what we ordered. It wasn't even worth it. Never again!
The only thing good about the place is the sushi. I would rather drive to Austin than next door to beluga.

My husband and I think Beluga's is the best sushi restaurant around. We love the swanky environment, the fish is always unbelievably fresh and the rolls are unique and outstanding. We have frequented many sushi restraurants and they just don't compare in quality to Beluga's. I enjoy the place so much I started working there a couple of nights a week. If you want to try something unbelievable and mouth watering, order the Ahi Tower. I promise you won't be disappointed. That's what got me hooked!

I read all of the other reviews and it seems that people are bashing the place for the service. I admit the service is not great but it is better than allot of other places! The food is the reason we keep going back! I moved out here from California and was very used to fresh fish, the first 5 or 6 places I ate at had horrible fishy tasting food. I was delighted when I found Beluga the fish is always fresh and they have an excellent menu. The service is tolerable for the quality of food you get. I highly recommend this restaurant for their quality fish. I also get real good service every couple of visits!!!!!!!!

I have been to this restuarant several times, day/night and weekend/day and the service is always horrible. Service staff does not understand menu and they seem to disappear. Not a place for children since they bring out menu items one at a time so you are there for 2 hours and not everyone has eaten and the kids get antsy and someone goes home hungry without their whole meal plus a $200 bill. I have eaten sushi all over the country, this sushi is pretty good so I return, not necessarily the best. The specials are a big reason for going but be prepared to get one item at a time and wait a long time for another delivery. The music is loud but I really like what they play and the ambiance is great. The tear drop is a killer.

I have had dinner at Beluga on two different occasions. The food is good and sushi is fresh. It's not outstanding, but it's pretty darn good. The service is pretty bad though... Our waitress did not know the menu, couldn't answer questions, and had A LOT of trouble opening a bottle of wine. I had a similar waitress experience on my previous visit as well.

I have one major bone of contention with the restaurant. They advertise lots of discount specials. One of these specials is 2 for 1 sushi from 5-7pm Mon-Fri. My companion and I asked the waitress about the special and she confirmed that the paper sushi menu was 2 for 1 during the "happy hour" timeframe. We ordered exclusively off of this menu, but when the bill came we were charged full price. When we asked the waitress she said it was because we ordered sushi rolls and not sushi. The chef came over and firmly told us that we were wrong and sushi rolls did not count as sushi even though they were on the sushi menu. Finally, the owner came over and told us we probably misunderstood and that there was no conceivable way for him to adjust the bill. I have worked in the restaurant industry and found this explanation and the attitude of the staff ridiculous! They all made us feel like the problem was our fault. What happened to "the customer is always right???"

I would have been happy if the owner had said that is sorry about the misunderstanding, will adjust the price this one time, and fully explains what the "real" special is. Instead, they have lost a customer for life. After paying $75 for dinner and leaving angry, I WILL NEVER GO BACK! There are lots of places in the city with pretty good sushi and better service.

Last night was my first visit to Beluga. I can honestly say I will be back. The food, service and atmosphere were all good. The waitstaff were very attentive. Everything was fresh. I had sashimi tuna and the Jalapeno roll. On my next visit I will be trying the Tuna Tower thing. I had already ordered my food when a waitress brought out this plate with the Tuna Tower on it. Looks to-die-for. Well done!!

The food at Beluga is amazing. The sushi is always very fresh and leaves a person craving more. The servers are always very tenative and prompt. Every person working at the restaurant strives to make the customer feel as though the restaurant is reserved just for their dining pleasure. It is a very nice place to go for a quick healthy lunch, but an even better place to start off your night on the town. Beluga is a casual dinning experience with upscale charm. Everyone should get a chance to try the amazing food and chic atmosphere!

The service is horrible, the waitress could not even understand me, or my date. This could be because of the loud music, or just because she did not seem to understand us. I continually read about the loud music in the reviews of the place thus far, but it seems like that is a simple change. Its more difficult to change staff or menus, but all the music needs is a switch turned to have it lowered so that the patrons can enjoy themselves. The company obviously does not take the reccomendations here into consideration as it seems the same comments are made: bad service, loud music, long waits. It seems like the owners were commenting on the reviews early when they were amazingly all 'highly recommended'....this could be because the reviews can be deleted. Now I see more of the negative reviews and less of the establishment commenting. I think less excuses need to be given and accusations made at the reviewers and more effort given to improving the restaurant. When I say I had a horrible lunch experience I state that I am having a bad experience. Tell me that you are going to improve and appologize and not tell me that the facility was not open during lunch. Lunch is simply the meal in the middle of breakfast and dinner, not what you eat at noon. If so, then the dictionary definitions are wrong and all of the 24 hour restaurants are wrong for being open at a time when there is no meal. I would not suggest the establishment as the waits were long, even with open tables, the waitress lost one of my parties credit card and it was found 30 mins later when she bent over and spilled the contents of her apron, and part of the staff cannot assist you as they are not my waitress. Why ask if we can be helped. Both me and my date were unhappy. As a Dell employee, I am disappointed a prime retail location could not be suited with a better sushi establishment. My coworkers agree.

okay i wouldn't be writing this but i went there based solely on these reviews, many of which are positive. well, my experience was the exact opposite of positive. without getting into too much detail i will let you know that the waiters were incompetent and the management (who trains them) was even more so. The food was just mediocre as well. So upon this experience I decided to review all the people who wrote positive reviews...only to find that most of them only had written 1 review...for who? you guessed it...beluga. Inside jobs? I'd say yes, but you can make the call for yourself. I'd suggest you go somewhere else and save your gas...

I must admit, there sushi is delious. The food seems to be cut from the best cuts of meat and fish and the food choices are very creative. This states alot since I frequent other sushi establishments regularly.

The food was the only wonderful part about my meal. In my thirty years of restaurant visits I have never had service as horrible as this location. I could go into detail, but in short, the party that I went with waited a total of an hour for our tab and for a box. During our wait we acknowledged to a member of the staff that we were still awaiting our to-go box. Our reply was that she was not our waitress and could not help us. She was the person who asked if needed anything twenty mins earlier, she was the one that we requested the box from, she was the one who replied yes. Other experiences included lack menus, and a 'lost' tab (one that contained our credit card). At the end, the tab was found with the waitress and we left very unsatisfied.

If you like good food I would suggest it, but only if you can wait a lengthy time for poor service from the waitstaff. I, as well as the rest of my party have each stated we would never return. We have not done so.

I would stop there any time any day any chance i get - and i actually do! Just ask Fish! I think i truly deserve the name of a special customer after a year and a half of at least weekly visits over there! And i bring all my friends there too :-) And they bring their friends...
Food is absolutely amazing - fresh, delicious, always something new to try - like Steak Wraps - i tried today at lunch! MMMMM... i couldn't think about anything else for a while... :-) Or have something old, familiar, and loved - like Ahi Tower or Summer Rolls. My mouth is watery as i write about them, and i just had my late lunch ah hour ago.
In any case, this is the most personal, friendly, VIP treatment that you would ever get at a restaurant! Period. You will always feel comfortable, welcome, and having a pleasant dining experience - no matter you come by yourself, or with your better half, or with a crowd of friends.
I am in love with the place! Would rate it as a 100 if i could :-)
This is my first review ever and i just had to thank them for making my day everytime i go there!

I work just around the corner and stopped by for lunch today. My boss and I ate in the bar area which was nice because there were flat screens everywhere for us to watch. The service and food was great. We got these "lunch trays or boxes" which were delicious! I will definitely go back and recommend this place to my friends and co-workers.

Very good sushi. Bincho and Fatty Monk are to die for. Godzilla Roll, YUMMY !!!!!!! I need to try a Dell roll. (Although given that name it must fall apart 5 minutes after it is made.) Service always superb. Many times you will see Vlad or Jae out greeting the villagers in the dining room. Some pinko had the nerve to write a bad review, and they had never even visited the restaurant. That review should clearly be deleted. Do yourself a favor, head over on a Sat night, and do the Sushi tasting. Call ahead for that though, that helps them plan the sushi bar staff etc.

We had dinner on Sunday night and the food was excellent. I really like the way the restaurant is decorated, you really can't find anything that compares in Round Rock. It was a great evening and we topped it off with some great Ice Cream next door.
