awesome food, really nice people
by nightbeats
this place is my favorite indian spot on the ave. they deliver and have a cheap take out buffet. so so good. one night they were closing shop when i called about a take out order, and they took my order and came by. they're willing to go the extra step to make your dining experience great. the place is pretty simple and the decorations aren't what make this place great, but the food is. theyre also really consistent. always good.
Pros: delicious buffet, kind service, not overbearing, delivery ++

Good chaats, Food not so authentic
by aarthiasdad
The service here was very nice. People were nice and friendly and were waiting promptly. While I did not like the main course too much, I found their chaats pretty appetizing and tasty. The place does not have a great ambience and parking can be a pain in U-district.
Pros: Service
Cons: Ambience, Parking

Amazing Indian Food!
by slandle4
My best friend and I eat here at least a couple of times a month. We have had many items on the menu, but the best is definitely the chicken mango curry. The garlic naan is the best in the U-District and all of the appetizers are delicious. On a cold day, ORDER THE CHAI. It's out of this world. But the greatest part about Jewel of India is the service. The owners are so friendly and often bring you free food...usually rice pudding. Give this place a chance!
Pros: great food, friendly service
Cons: none

great indian buffet in the u district
by fishguru
This is my favorite place for Indian buffet when I am in the city. I often try to find a reason to be in the u district whenever I can make it there for the all you can eat buffet. I feel so good when I am full. It warms me up from the inside out on those cold and rainy days, it is like sunshine for the soul! since I live in Everett, it is a long drive to get there, but it is soooo worth every penny. I have never been disappointed and the service is great! This is a great place to bring your friends for lunch if you are buying. The prices are more then fair for what you get! share the love! kurt
Pros: this is the place to be at lunch
Cons: parking can be a problem, if you don't like to walk

Tasty and unexpectedly nice experience
by seattleregular
I've eaten A LOT of Indian food.
Jewel of India was a pleasant surprise- and their veggie pakora and butter chicken (my favorite) were fantastic. The guy who owns the place (cooks, too) was personable, friendly and came out to make sure I enjoyed my meal. So all in all, I had a very good experience there.

A truly divine experience: delicious food, great service, and a great buffet in the afternoon.
by Sandmole
If you like Indian, then definitely check this place out. A warm and friendly family owns the place, which is always great, and the atmosphere is nice. Additionally, and most importantly, the food does not disappoint. The wide range of dishes and large portion sizes aside, the quality of ingredients and the taste is on point. The chicken is particularly succulent; I don't know how they manage to get it so perfectly juicy, but it's delicious. For the vegetarians (I've recently become one myself), there's plenty of delicious options as well--vegetable korma is my dish of choice at the moment. Overall, it's great valve for the price (which will run you about 10 dollars or so for a nice dinner, less for lunch/buffet), so I highly recommend it.
I'm a big fan of Indian food, and I have been to plenty of restaurants in the Seattle area, but Jewel remains my number one.
Pros: Great food and valve, friendly staff, prompt service, large portion sizes, good vegetarian options
Cons: None

BEST Indian food EVER!
by pongojones
WOW! My fav Indian place used to be Pabla (vegetarian) in Renton--and then I came here. I can't attest to their meat dishes, but their vegetarian dishes make me want to cry they are so good! I have been twice for dinner and once for the lunch buffet and all 3 times were amazing. I don't use that word lightly, this place has the best flavors I have ever tasted! The only downside is all the moron university student drivers trying to run you over while you're driving, parking, and walking. Also, the chai tastes a little weird to me, but I don't care, the food more than makes up for it.
Pros: Food, food, and food! Pretty decent prices.
Cons: Location (U district yahoos running around)

Cant even get over this place, man
by seihcnum
I love Jewel of India. Seriously. Great food and awesome family friendly service. The fact that they deliver is really handy too. Really authentic foods and the Garlic Naan has a generous amount of garlic. Service is always really friendly and their kids are really nice too. Chicken Tikka Masala is fantastic. Always have a friendly, private atmosphere with delicious, spicy dishes. Also, unlike many other indian restaurants, the level of spiciness at which you order your food is always consistent. Did I mention they deliver?
Pros: Delicious authentic food that delivers!
Cons: parking on the ave

Surprising buffet, great samosas
by h0wdy
So, I go into this simple Indian place in the UDistrict for lunch- I get seated right away, offered the menu or the all you can eat buffet.
Of course, I head for the buffet! Frankly, I was surprised- the food was great, and those samosa things were delicious! It's about as plain as plain can be as far as decor, but the food more than makes up for it!
Highly recommended!
Pros: tasty food, good prices
Cons: udistrict parking

Tasty curries, Fresh Naans
by SamVr
Awesome curries. We had the Veggie Vindaloo and the Malai Kofta. The naans (Onion Kulcha, Garlic Naan) was very fresh and yummy! Definitely recommend this place. The Gulab Jamun was a little dry though. (Stale?)
Pros: Portion Size, Authenticity
Cons: Ambience

Based On Other Reviews of this Eatery
by OneWorld
Based on other reviews of this eatery, I went there and was very disappointed.
I expected a buffet with many choices, and there was not much choice.
The quality of the food was average to less than average.

AVOID
by ksseattle
I went here with a friend and we both ordered different dishes, but we received the same dish and it was not what either of us had ordered. It was some kind of bean log. It tasted like poo. They forgot to give us cutlery, and when we finally got ahold of the server, he didn't understand what we asked for. Horrible service, really bad food. No wonder there is no one in here ever. Avoid at all costs. It's cheap because it is awful!!!!

Pretty Good Indian Food for a good price
by keiichi
I had never been to this Indian Restaurant. But, it seemed like most of the reviews were good. So I thought I'd invite my Men's Group to dinner there. The food was very good and the service was fine. It seems like a nice family owned restaurant with authentic Indian cuisine. I was not disappointed. I'm looking forward to supporting them in the future.
Pros: Delicious and Authentic Indian Cuisine, Curteous and Genuine Service, Excellent Value and Location for Students
Cons: Can't really think of one.

Avoid delivery at all costs!!!
by outonawhim
When I called for delivery it was busy and remained busy for over 10 minutes. When i finally got hold of them, the woman taking my order did not understand me at all. She kept asking me something in a completely other language and didn't understand my address. She also put me on hold every ten seconds because she had another call or started talking to someone else in the restaurant. Two other people had to get on the line to take my correct address and in the end the goodness of the food was still sour from my experience with their bad service.
pro: food was good
con: HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Won't take coupons
by imissedaimee
Twice my boyfriend and I have tried to dine at this establishment and both times they said they didn't take coupons--not even the one on their website! Being on the ave i'm sure that a lot of hungry college students get sucked into thinking they are getting a cheap dinner when they aren't. if the coupon ON THEIR WEBSITE says "free delivery" but when you call they say they won't honor it, thats just poor business service. I won't ever try to eat at jewel of india again, not because i'm cheap but because of my beliefs in business ethics.
Cons: lie to customers

If you know good Indian, you ought to know Jewel of India
by voracious1
I used to go a lot before the construction, and now go again that the construction is over- man, I missed that place!
So go in, order up a chai or mango lhassi and ponder the menu: the chicken saag is my favorite. (It's chicken in spinach and although it may sound only good to Popeye, it's subtle and delicious.
The owner and his wife are very friendly and helpful, to make for a great experience.

Very good Indian food
by fournostar
I loved the food, the best part of the dinner is the red sauce(butter chicken), it was served very tradionally, and the service was very good. I really am an Indian food lover, and this made me want to come back more and more...Jewel of India is a great restaurant, and try the mango lassi its really good!

Good Indian food without the long wait for a table.
by psyclops
Prompt seating and prompt service, which is hard to get at the 'other' good Indian restaurants in the U District area. The Sauces had a nice flavor, not as complex as other Indian food i have had, but still good. The rice had a nice buttery flavor, but seemed a tad bit too moist. The salad and dressing was a bit bland, but then it was a salad...been spoiled by Taste of India's spicy Indian salad. All in all a good place to come to if you want to try something new or want to skip out on the long wait to get a table someplace else.
Try the Chicken Vindaloo.
Pros: Quck seatting, prompt service, good food
Cons: Funny orange booths; bland salad dressing; a fruit fly was buzzing around the table.

Great Indian Food!
by hungryfish
We have eaten here so many times we are on a first name basis with the owner and family. The food is awesome and reasonably priced. The service is very good. I ahve never eaten here at lunch so I don't know about the buffet, but I would highly recommend Jewel of India if you have a craving for Indian food. I would pick Jewel over Cedar's everytime.
Pros: The Best Indian Food
Cons: None

It's good
by kee22
The food here is good. The chai is ok. The buffet is definately a good value, tho I wish they had more selections. I would recommend eating in the restaurant and not getting the food delivered...it takes a long time for the food to arrive.
Pros: Good food, buffet, nice atmosphere
Cons: takes a long time for delivery

Good and affordable Indian
by outeverynite
I have been to this restaurant numerous times, both for the lunch buffet and for dinner. I have been to almost every Indian restaurant in the Puget Sound and I really like this one for the price and quality of food. They don?t water down the buffet like most restaurants and the spices are usually right on.
Pros: Great food, Good Buffet
Cons: Often cold or too hot in the dining room

Fantastic Indian Food!
by brownpokadots
After reading the reviews on CitySearch my boyfriend and I decided to drive over to the U District and dine at the Jewel of India. What a wonderful Indian restaurant this is! We ordered a mango chicken dish and garlic naan and it was the best Indian food we've ever had! I would highly recommend this Indian restaurant to anyone.
Pros: Great Food, Great Price, Great Service

Best Indian food on the Ave
by 77bdn
As far as I'm concerned, this is the best Indian food on the Ave. The lunch buffet may not be spectacular, but ordering off of the menu is nothing short of sublime. I heartily recommend the Maharaja dinner. The prices are hard to beat as well.
Pros: Excellent food, great value
Cons: Aesthetics

Delicious food for a great price
by zakarya
I live right around the corner from Jewel of India. I order out or eat at this restaurant at least once a week. The food is delicious, and the price is great. My favorite dish is the Chicken Tika Masala ... I simply love it. I also enjoy the great Samosa appetizers.
I tried ONCE going to Ceaders which is around the corner as well. I called 1 hour ahead of time, had to wait for another hour to be seated. The food was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, and the taste was less than what i expected ! Ceader's is simply overated.
I am from Morocco, and enjoy great food (and also like to get my money's worth). Jewel of India does it all !
Enjoy,
Zak.
Pros: great taste, great price, great staff

The food here is great, especially the madras chili chicken and the Madras Curry Shrimp. They also have great Samosas. Try their Mango Lassis too. The staff are also very friendly. All in all the best Indian food in the U-District.

The best value for my money. I can eat there everyday. The service is excellent...the best example of service with simplicity. You just feel as if you are at home, just better. Taste...service...value...you name it. I would say it is "THE PLACE TO GO FOR LUNCH AND DINNER"
Pros: Parking is available, Inexpensive, Authentic

good food, no hassel
by friendofjewel
They have a great, affordable lunch buffet, with lots of items, recently
samosas too! They don't bother you with constant water filling (like other restaurants in the area).
Pros: atmosphere, quiet, good food
