Love the staff at Capeside. I have several animals and never had a problem with any staff member or vet. They go out of their way to help your animals, nudged treat them as your own. They are also open every day which can be a godsend.

I have been taking out pets to Capeside for 5 yrs and have always been impressed with the vets and the staff. The docs always follow up when there is a problem.
Our 12 yr old dog required surgery for a tumor in her mouth. It was the 2nd time in 2 yrs. We consider that time a gift and hope that this one will be the same.
Dr. Moore was wonderful! She explained what she needed to do in simple terms and is enthusiastic about the outcome. She calls to explain the situation and the staff, or the doc have always followed up. We have seen all of the docs there and the same was true across the board.
I recommend this practice highly. They care about the pets and the owners!

I came to this vet for dr. Moore. Dr. Moore is a great vet the problem is that the staff is awful the prices are so high! If you call the vet there is NO communication ! The staff has no clue what is going on ! They have messed up sp many appointments for us we show up to see dr Moore and she's not there after I confirmed my appointment was there with dr.Moore ! The office staff and techs have messed up so much that I have had to leave this office! Do not go here unless ur ready to pay a lot of money and have poor care!!!!!

Way Over Charging for tests! $151 blood test here cost $90 at other vets. Tick test here $189 other vets $44. Staff completely unwilling to work with you on billing issues. Suspected they might be over charging me, but staff refused to issue an itemized bill of charges. Guess I was right! If you thinking of going to this vet, prepare to pay, a lot!

I have been going to Capeside for years and must completley disagree with your "interpretations" related to standard mark ups for products and services provided in a medical practice. The hospital is a high quality practice that does a very good job medically. In my experience using different Veterinarians and Veterinary Board Certified Specialists the fees they charge are market. I have a cousin that owns a large hospital in California and have first hand knowledge on average hospital profitability. You may find it interesting that most Animal Hospital owners have profit margins of less than 10%! During various visits for family events at my cousins home I have read Vet Economics and other journals to kill some down time including lots of conversations with him about the economics of the profession. The educational level of Vets is 7 to 8 years and they are always selected based incredible intelligence that most of us would be happy to be blessed with. The amount of staff overhead, medical supplies, building costs and technology are much bigger than the pet owner understands. You can sit on your soap box in virtually any medical or retail business and complain about being over charged. Frankly, it is insulting if you had any real understanding of how businesses like this one operate. Yes you can go to low cost and low quality practices which is probably a good place for you but not your pet. Personally I believe pet owners should focus on quality care first and not try to beat up on good doctors and animal hospitals that work hard to help our beloved furry friends.
**************************************************
Gary-I resent the implication that I am an employee. Not the case period. I am just a educated pet consumer that knows more than most about veterinary healthcare because of my family connection. That being said these sites that let people complain and comment sometimes do unfair harm to good quality businesses. I respect the fact that your "opinion" is that they are to to expensive for your taste. Maybe some other hospitals are cheaper. The challenge in the medical enviroment is to find excellence and quality over cost. This is not a debate that JC Penney is cheaper than Nordstrom. The brands, service and products are apples and oranges. Medical quality is more important to me. The service at this practice has been excellent in my experience with my two labs. Maybe the issue "our different approaches" in communicating with the docs and staff and my approach to being nice make all the difference in the way doctors and techs treat me. I read reviews and very rarely comment (this is my third comment to a blog like this one in my life). I just happened to see your comment and it fired me up to respond because I thought it came from a place of not understanding vet med and purely was based on being pissed off about price. I am sure you will some "less expensive" Vets and others that are more expensive. I hope your pet never has the need to go to a veterinary specialist because I am certain it will break you and you will be blogging everywhere. I spend $14,000 trying to save my one of my former dogs who ate some rat poisening. Call me crazy but I loved my dog Mulligan and tried everything to save my buddy.

We bring our dog Bandit to Capeside. We had to bring him in very late one night and were not turned away. We were there long after normal hours. The staff and doctors are awesome. Very caring - true pet lovers. From the front desk associates to the technicians and doctors, very dependable and caring and willing to take the necessary time to discuss problems and possible solutions.

Have been using Capeside for two years now and could not be happier. Last week we had plans to go to the Bahamas and were taking Bindi to Pups Play and Stay and were then heading to Raleigh for our flight. Well, when Bindi got in the car we noticed she had this big ugly red welt on her face and it was all swollen. We stopped at the vet and they took us immediately after I explained the situation. They gave her some shots and meds and she is fine now. They called Pups Play and Stay to see how she was doing and were on top of the situation. If they had not taken her immediately that would of been the end of our vacation. Everyone was fantastic - from the girl at the front desk to Dr. Moore who came out and explained what was going on - they dropped everything in order to accommodate us. I am a member of Furever Friends but I just joined recently because a friend had told me about the dedication that Dr. Hanby has for these rescues. She became a vet for the right reasons - she LOVES animals and donates hours of her time and talent to rescues that would never have a chance if not for her. I commend her on her dedication - we need more Dr. Hanby's in this world!!!!!!!!!

Capeside Animal Hospital is the one of the best animal hospitals that I have encountered in all my years of taking a large number of family pets in my lifetime, both young and senior dogs.
The staff and the doctors are of the highest quality, in their expertise in animal care. The staff and doctors are compassionate, supportive and extend themselves because they realize how important our pets are to us and our families.
In opinion, they are "The Best" is what they do and how they do it!!!!

I have taken all of my dogs to Dr. Sheila Hanby, Dr. Danielle Moore, Dr. Colleen Peat and Dr. Dawn Gleason for the past 4 years. The total number of dogs I have is 6, all rescues. Three have passed, and I still have the remaining 3. I can say without any hesitation or doubt in my mind that the care they have received was excellent. I can also say that all of their staff is the same, the receptionist, vet tech's and office manager are very dedicated in their work. They are all professional, caring, knowledgeable, and have gone the extra mile with all of my dogs through some rough times when they were very ill.
One of my senior dogs, Katie that I adopted when she was 9 years old had multiple organ failure. Dr. Hanby was able to keep her going in a good quality of life for an additional 5 months. She died when she was 12 years old.
One other dog that I adopted, Lady Jane Grey when she was 6 years old, a puppy mill survivor who developed some breathing problems after I had her for only 6 weeks. She rapidly went to a breathing crisis, so much so that she was taken to the vet emergency hospital in Wilmington personally by Dr. Moore who watched over her all night and transported her back to Capeside Animal Hospital. The prognosis was grave and Lady Jane was unable to survive outside the oxygen tank on her own for more than a few minutes. Dr. Hanby and her staff worked tirelessly to save her. Dr. Hanby then proceeded to contact the vet school in Cary for any suggestions that they might have. The response was to drive her there to see if they could help her. The major problem was that because of her breathing problem, she would never survive the 2 hour drive without an oxygen tank. There is no medical transport available for animals.
The vets, office manager and staff put their heads together and came up with the creation of a portable oxygen tank attached to a portable oxygen source of sustaining her oxygen levels. The office manager drove me up there and Lady Jane was left there. She was there for 3 days, and nothing more could be done. She fought the fight, but her little body reached the end of her fight.
In my experience, there is no better place for animal care than Capeside Animal Hospital!!!

We bring our cat to Capeside. It is one of the best animal hospitals we have ever used. The doctors and staff are the best - thorough and caring. We also felt that the prices were very competitive. We recommend Capeside to all our friends and neighbors and would not trust our pets to anyone else!

We brought Lexie in on Tuesday for blood tests to get her ready to have a tooth pulled. On Wednesdy she had the surgery where they pulled 10 teeth. They sent her home even though she could not even walk. After being up with her all night as she cried and deficated on herself we let them know how unhappy we were. They took her back to watch over her. Suddenly she has taken a turn for the worst and they found a mass on her liver. Now this dog was functioning just fine at home. Now I am heartbroken as I could be facing having her put asleep. Something happened to her there but I will never know the truth. I am just very sorry I didn't stay with my original vet. I feel like Lexie was given a fate she didn't deserve I will have to live with my decision to go there a long long time.

My dog was scheduled for minor surgery at 7:45 AM. At 2:00 PM I was called and told that there had been an emergency that just came in, and would I mind if my dog received his surgery the next day! I asked what was going on all day long, if the emergency just came in at 2, and my dog was still not seen. He was hungry and thirsty for 18 hours, kenneled for nothing for half a day. I immediately picked my dog up and found a new vet. Although this office appears to be efficient, it is not. No one schedules surgery in the morning and lets their patient sit for six hours before attending to them. Don't trust your animals to this doc!!

I use Capeside Animal Hospital as our vet for our cat and dog and I also use them as a Kennel when we go out of town.
My animals were both spayed there with great results and no problems.
The staff is friendly and accommodating. We have boarded Lucy (our dog) twice. Last year for 7 days and recently for 5 days while we were out of town. They treated her very kindly and she is happy to arrive and greet the staff.

The price is also very competitive.
