I went in to Don Juan June 4th to have a bridesmaids dress altered for an out of town wedding on July 3rd. I googled tailors Spokane wa and Don Juans place came up near me and with great ratings, so I figured it was a win-win. I tried the dress on for the tailor and while he was taking measurements he went on about how it was his calling in life to make women look nice, feel beautiful and be comfortable. He suggested I have him put a push-up bra in my dress so I wouldnt have to wear a strapless bra and it would look more elegant over all. He pointed out other areas that needed fixed. The grand total came to $237. My heart stopped. I had no idea having anything altered cost this much. I doubted the dress even cost that much. He said if I wore heals, he wouldnt have to hem the length and that brought the total to $187. $187 still made me quiver, but the dress did need altered and I figured it would be worth it. I paid upfront as he requires and he gave me a ticket with the date I was to come in for a final fitting. That date was June 26th and on that day I got a phone call saying the dress was not done and to come in the following Monday. On Monday, his wife was at the counter and told me my dress was still not ready, but that Don Juan was very busy with a high-end customer and that he was not to be bothered. I started to stress, because I was leaving town the next day. She assured me the dress would be done and to call early the next morning. I came to terms with the fact that there was going to be no final fitting. I was irritated that I wouldnt have an option for final adjustments. My dress was not finished until the end of the following business day. Had my husband not been traveling separate from myself, I would have had to either change travel plans or not be a bridesmaid. Butthe dress managed to make it to the wedding in the nick of time.
When I went to put the dress on, I could't get my legs through the bottom. It was as if he'd sewn it shut. I had to work my arm through twisted material until I could find an opening. Once I realized there was in fact an opening for my legs, I had to force them through the tiny opening. Once I got it on, I felt like a mermaid. I couldn't open my thighs or move my heels apart from one another. The brides mother is a seamstress and she could not figure out what this man had done. The whole bottom, inside portion of the dress was twisted and made no sense whatsoever. Once on, the side seems of the dress around my hips bubbled in waves and had open seems. I paid $38 for him to take in the upper bodice around my breasts, where the material curled out exposing the inner silk of the dress. This had not been done. I felt for my pushup bra. I felt thin foam that reminded me of maybe shoulder pads from the 80s? Definitely NOT a push up bra. All of these flaws were things that I had hired him to fix, things that I paid $187 and were not done. The dress looked just as it did when I brought it in, except that he had sewn the bottom shut and added a hook to the back so it would zip up properly. I couldnt walk in the thing. The other bridesmaids helped me find a way to roll the twisted bottom up so I could pin it and move my legs.

Long, crappy, uncomfortable story short, for $187 this man ruined my dress and ruined my time at the wedding. I couldnt dance, because I couldnt comfortably move. I was so upset. The job Don Juan did was atrocious. I came to find out too that his rates were exorbitant. The whole thing was absurd.

I deserved a refund. I remember seeing a sign on his wall that read no refunds, but his undeniably horrendous job warranted one. Surely he would agree. He ripped me off and he ruined my time. When I got back Spokane, I went into his shop. His wife had me try the dress on. She couldnt figure out what Don Juan did. Neither could Don Juan. He told me to take the dress off and he would fix it. I told him there was no point for him to fix it, I would never wear the dress again and that I wanted my money back. He said he doesnt do refunds, but that he does guarantee his work. I hired you to fix a dress for an event that occurred on July 3rd. You failed to have the dress done in time for a fitting and you sent out a final product that I couldnt even slip my legs into. You didnt do the job I hired you for. I want my money back. He missed my point entirely. Either he was playing dumb or he really is dumb, but he took my dress from me and wandered around the shop looking for scissors to fix it. He would not give me the dress back, despite me telling him firmly, NOT TO FIX THE DRESS and to give it back to me. He finally set it down behind the counter, in which I took it and left out the door. I left him my phone number and said if he wanted to do the right thing, he could give me a call. I am shocked this man has a business.

I had recently had a surgery and was unable to fit into but one pair of jeans. However, in putting this pair of jeans on, I tore the zipper. These were my favorite jeans and I had an important appointment to attend the following morning. I took them to Don Juan and he not only fixed them wonderfully, but the same day at a reasonable price. Because I needed them quickly, no other shop would have been able to fix them and am glad while that was my first experience with them, my future business will always be promised to them!

I brought in very expensive suits and other clothing for tailoring, and this shop ruined all of them. Their workmanship was extremely poor and far worse than high school home-ec students. Rather than taper the skirts and their linings, Don Juan Tailoring took in one single panel on a skirt, which caused the hem to hang wrong and resulted in a mis-matched pattern. Then, they re-set the waistband all wrong. On another skirt, instead of tapering the skirt and raising the hemline, Don Juan Tailoring cut it off mid-thigh and gathered the top. Then, to add insult to injury, Don Juan's gathered the previously fitted skirt and made a poor attempt to stitch the skirt into the waistband. The "finished" skirt was not even fully sewn into the waistband and was lumpy and terrible looking, even though I had paid a fortune for it. This shop ruined my good clothing. I am beyond angry at the mess they made of my clothes. When I complained, the woman (the owner's wife) shrugged and said, "People complain about the other shops around here. The things you are talking about are very small problems." How is it that ruining three suits, which previously were valued at $600 each is just a small problem?
