I moved from Salt Lake City in 2004 and leaving behind haircuts from Jeff was one of the hardest parts about leaving. \r

I do however make it a point to try and book in for a cut on returning visits. He may he hard to get into but well

I have been getting my hair done at Dexterity since they opened. I love it so much I still come here, even though I live in San Diego!

Both Jeff and Stephen have been my stylists here before and both do a great job. I generally come in for a cut and color and have never been disappointed. I have referred dozens of friends here over the years that have had other stylists and all have had great experiences using other stylists as well.

Recently I had a quick cut and color and was very pleased with the results. My hair is dark and I just needed my roots done and a quick trim. I don't know why I haven't always done it this way! It was faster than a full cut and color, cheaper and still looked awesome.

The atmosphere is great and they also sell Bumble and Bumble products at the salon. Staff is friendly and my hair always turns out amazing every time I come here! I would highly recommend this salon to anyone.

I have been going to Dexterity for about 3 years. I have had nothing but positive experiences there- the salon's atmosphere is unique and features new art from locals monthly. It is hip and progressive yet friendly and comfortable. Recently, I had my hair cut from the middle of my back to my chin. It was a big step yet I felt totally at ease with my stylist who is not only a professional, but an artist as well. It was a "i can't believe I didn't do this sooner" hair cut. every appointment since then has been just as rewarding- whether it be cut or color. Last week at the Avenues Street Fair a girl came up to me and told me I had a great hair cut- she asked what salon I went to. I told her Dexterity and she and her friends laughed because they had asked another girl with a different short hair cut at the fair the same question- and she had the same answer. The girls said "So pretty much if you have an amazing hair cut- you go to Dexterity, right?" ...... "Right," I said.

I've been going to Dexterity since just about day one, and I've only had very positive experiences. In fact, I'm there every 3 weeks and really appreciate the unpretentious yet decidedly hip atmosphere, the way above average customer service and, of course, the impeccable cuts. Owners Jeff and Tara have assembled a terrific staff. As importantly, they have managed to imbue the entire salon with a personality that feels similar to who they are as people: warm, open, careful and precise. I highly recommend the experience.

Could not help but notice the lengthy posting by Andie. I've never experienced anything like she reports, and she seems prone to exaggeration (how can she have been a regular customer for "10 years" when the salon has only been open for 5?). But I can only speak for myself, and the salon has always been more than fair with me.

I've got absolutely no complaints. Greeted by smiling faces, hair cut by the hand of a true professional, Dexterity always has a pleasing atmosphere everytime I come in for appointments. Before landing with Dexterity I was bouncing around between different salons trying to find a stylist I liked. I would assume you all can relate, most everyone goes through this sort of process at some point. The thing that really made an impression on me with Dexterity is that I felt like the stylist actually cared about what they were doing. I personally felt important and could sense their pride and enthusiasm for what they were doing. That is the sort of thing I like to see in any business and I feel lucky to have given Dexterity a chance.

I keep my hair short and my cuts have always been relatively simple. After working with my stylist through the first few cuts, I started to recognize the insight that they held even into the simplest of cuts. I've never had a stylist understand hair on the level they did. My stylist could easily recognize certain problem areas or predicaments with the way my hair grows and modify my style to work with it. Nowadays my trust is such that I just tell them, "do whatever you think will look good" and they do, and it does, I just kick back and relax and my hair turns out looking great. No stress confidence boosting hair cuts to me are worth every penny.

Every time I walk in I'm greeted like a favorite family member. The staff and stylists all create a warm, friendly, unpretentious environment. The quality of service is amazing and Jeff Martin is simply the best. I can't possibly say enough good things about him!

I had been a loyal and regular customer of this salon for over 10 years. I was a customer of the owner since 1996, even before he opened Dexterity. And I agree with all the positive comments about the skills of its stylists. I spent an average of over $120 per month there. If you are a one-time customer or you schedule your appointment just a few times a year as-needed, the positive comments here are exactly right. However, if you are a regular customer, you might be able to see otherwise; as they just took me for granted and didn't really care about retaining me. Not long after the Dexterity Salon was established, they had this weird idea about calculating their fees, which I still don't understand: 1. In their menu, "quick color" means touch up of root color and shampoo, but without blow dry or styling, so you leave with wet hair. They used to charge me around $60 for "quick color" if this was the only service I had. Note that even for "quick color" they had to shampoo my hair before I left. 2. "Full color" includes consultation, color, shampoo, blow dry and styling. They used to charge me $100 to $180 if this was the only service I had. 3. "Full hair cut" includes consultation, hair cut, shampoo, blow dry and styling. They used to charge me $70 to $95 if this was the only service provided. Because I lived far away from downtown and I didn't want to leave with wet hair from the salon (which would be totally dry by the time I got home and difficult to style by then), and I didn't want to just have single service performed every time and hence had to visit them too frequently; I started scheduling multiple services (as I always did with the owner stylist before he opened Dexterity) in one visit every 4 weeks. My usual and ideal combination were: first month - full hair color; second month - full hair cut and quick color; third month - full hair color; fourth month - full hair cut and quick color; etc. So I had a full hair cut every 8 weeks and I had tried to schedule it with a quick color, thinking that this would save me and them time. However, after a while I was told that I could not schedule the quick color and full hair cut together, because the quick color didn't include blow dry and styling! Well, until this day, I still don't understand why! I mean, anyone with some elementary math skills wouldn't understand. For example, for a quick color + a full hair cut combined in one visit they could charge me at least $130 and had both services done within one and a half hour (plus saving one shampoo). Whereas, if I had two separate appointments they would have charged me the same total amount, but would have to shampoo me twice and with increased cost to them (more time spent and addtional utility costs)! They would have to blow dry and style my hair anyway because I had the full hair cut. So I don't understand why they didn't want to do it simply because I added in a quick color?! Well, anyway, I left the salon for a few months and then went back to a different stylist there. My original combination of the quick color and full hair cut worked for a while. But then my stylist told me again that the owner said they couldn't allow me to have that combination! It is outrageous!!! I went to other salons and asked them why this might be a problem but no one understood why, and all the other salons that I talked to didn't think this combination would have given them any disadvantage profit-wise at all. Fortunately, I found an amazing stylist elsewhere two years ago and I have left Dexterity for good. I just think that they must be too stupid to treat any of their long-term, regular customers like this. Boy, do they need some marketing and accounting advice urgently!!!

I had my hair cut here yesterday by Hatty, and I love it. it's been really hard for to find someone to cut my hair exactly like i want it. maybe i don't explain myself very well, but she knew exactly what i was getting at. it's true that the more experienced the stylist, the more you pay, but many salons are like that. Also, you get what you pay for. even their more experienced stylists are very reasonable. i would definitely recommend Hatty to anyone that's looking for a nice, cute, modern hairstyle.

Dexterity hair salon is an incredible salon. The atmosphere his hip, and so are the people. It is the type of salon where you feel comfortable telling the stylist to do whatever they think will looks good, because it always does. A bit on the expensive side, however they do such a wonderful job it is worth it. When you are done, or even in the middle of your processing, you can also pop next door to Cafe Niche to grab one of their excellent coffee drinks!

The salon had a nice ambiance and the price was very reasonable but I would have rather spent three times as much. I can't remember the name of the stylist but she was one of the younger ones. I had three huge problems with my cut. 1) It was two to three inches shorter than what I asked for. This doesn't matter much for longer hair but since it was supposed to be shoulder length it turned into a "short" haircut. 2) I have curl in my hair which usually requires layers. She cut my entire hair with a razor and straightened it upon styling. When I asked if it would look good with curl she said yes. Well it didn't. Those funny pieces that looked funky straight just looked odd. 3) I asked for a different kind of shape and got the opposite. Also, I got bangs and I constantly have longer pieces sticking into my face. Basically I they just didn't know how to cut different types of hair.

I was introduced to this salon by several co-workers 3 years ago. I have been goin ever since! Sam always answers your call with a smile in her voice. The service is above and beyond anything I have ever experienced. Ellen is my personal stylist. She has fixed hair emergencies for myself and my daughter (It is never a good idea to cut your own hair, be you 5 or 35). She doesn't even make fun of us when we call begging for her help. The owner, Jeff, is a hair genious. He is great for entertaining conversation while you are getting foiled at the color bar.
Cafe Niche is hooked on to the place. What a genious idea! I am never hungrier than after a couple of hours chatting it up at the salon. You can even order a latte while you get your hair done and they will bring it to you!
Put down the scissors and the nice-n-easy and give them a call.

I am one of those drifters that bounces from one salon/stylist to the next, never really finding someone that "knows" my hair (short really coarse = difficult). Leland spent over an hour on my first cut really studying my hair and trying to achieve the effect that we were going for - she nailed it. I have gone to Dexterity for the last several months and really like the fun hip atmosphere. Go there already!
