I signed up on this forum specifically because I am tired of seeing the very few, very negative comments each time I look up the phone number. I bring both of my dogs here on a regular basis and they are well cared for, safe and happy when I pick them up. They use excellent quality food, and are good with the animals. For those negative reviewers, first, while I am so sorry for the loss of your dog, and I can't image the horror, stress or pain that caused your family AND the employees at Stone Hill, don't expect anyone to believe that a boston terrier was just magically able to jump a 6' fence without ever jumping before. If this was the case, then it was just bad luck, a precocious puppy, and a tragic accident. You seem to be insinuating that your dog didn't jump, but was let out of the fence. While I am certainly not there on a daily basis, I have never ONCE seen the fence or any gate open on their property. Your only other option would have been to keep the dog locked in a cage for your entire vacation, which, of course, would be cause for real concern. Second, for the other reviewer, if you want excellent people skills, don't bother looking for a kennel; try your nail salon instead. As a 24/7 365 business, they are making a career of working with animals, animals that require constant care and attention. By the way, did you notice the floor is laminate? This is the best, most sanitary surface available for this type of business, but it has no traction for paws. Thus, the "drag" is often the only way to get a dog to the other side of the room, and causes absolutely no pain or discomfort to a dog, unless, of course, you are using a choke-chain, but then that would be your error, not hers. Everything you said sounds overly sensitive and ridiculously self-serving. I think you should take a good look at the other reviews here and then a good look at your own attitude.

As the owner of Stonehill Ltd., I speak for myself and for the staff here, when we express our deepest sympathy to the Kaylor family for the loss of their beloved pet Buster. We have tried to make this a safe kennel for all the dogs boarded here. Occasionally, we will have a dog we feel will jump a 6' high fence and we take necessary precautions. However, no one anticipated that Buster was a jumper or that he would be capable of jumping a 6' high fence. That is exactly what he did. Unfortunately, Buster would not come to us when we called to him. This terrible accident was a nightmare for all concerned. Although we can never replace Buster, the family has been compensated for their loss and hopefully their new puppy will ease some of their pain.
Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Luke 12:6

My dog was killed while at Stonehill. My son and I dropped our 1 yr. old Boston Terrier, Buster, off there and left for our 9 day vacation in Ocean City, Md. Two days into our vacation, we got a call from Cindy telling me that our dog had jumped a 6 ft. vinyl fence and just kept running. A neighbor 2 doors down found our beloved dog dead on the side of the road. Cindy told my husband that a German Sheppard had also jumped the fence before. I don't believe Cindy's story and I guess I will never know the real truth. Needless to say, our vacation was ruined for me, my husband, kids and grandchildren. A word of warning. Take your dog with you or find a safe kennel so you don't have to live this nightmare.

I understand that everyone has different experiences; however there are always two sides to every situation and you should stop to think about what you contributed to the situation. I have never been treated ill at Stonehill. Honestly I'm quite difficult and they always make me feel completely satisfied with the experience. My dogs are always treated well and I refer all my clients, friends and family there if asked where I board my dogs. Thanks again.

My dog Frosty has been going to Stone Hill for years and she is a very happy dog while she is there and when I pick her up. Before we discovered Stone Hill, Frosty stayed at several other area kennels that quite honestly were not a place for her. When we picked her up from these other places she was tired and dirty/stinky and not happy with us leaving her there. Stone Hill was the first place that when I picked her up when we returned from vacation (whether for a weekend or a week) she seemed truly happy. She's met several doggie friends while there and Cindy made sure that Frosty's high energy needs were met to keep her happy by pairing her up with dogs with the same needs during playtime and it works out great every time. Cindy takes the time to make sure Frosty feels right at home at Stone Hill while we are gone. We LOVE Stone Hill!!! and would highly recommend it!

What a wonderful place! I found myself in need of a place for my elderly dog when my mother was taken ill and a friend referred me to Stonehill. I am so glad she did. Cindy made sure he was taken out and exercised so he would not get stiff, and made sure he would eat. He will not always eat if I am not with him, but he must have been very comfortable at Stonehill, because they did not have any problems with him. I will surely return if I need their services in the future and I will refer to others.

Do Not Take Your Pet Here! The owner is extremely rude and very short tempered. I had a very traumatic experience leaving my dog here. When we first arrived not only did we "inconvenience her", but also my dog apparently did. As we were checking in, Cindy violently dragged my dog by his leash and then tossed him into a cage, which was totally rude and unprofessional. Needlesstosay I cancelled our appointments, which made her even more mad at us. (Still trying to figure out why she was mad at us to begin with.) Then she was so immature that she proceeded to shred our vaccination records that we brought, even after I told her I needed them for another kennel. She did it to be spiteful. Cindy is one nasty woman who should not be working with animals with an attitude like that. She should work in a prison not a kennel.

I've had bad boarding experiences before, so always got pet sitters for my current dog. Stone Hill was my pet's first boarding experience. When I picked her up, she was healthy, happy and clean. She was running around the fenced-in outdoor area having a great time. My dog doesn't eat much for the first few days when we leave her. They watched for this and I got a detailed account of what they did to make sure she ate enough. Also could tell she got enough exercise, because she napped all day when we got her home. I could tell she wasn't stressed, because she was in no hurry to leave. The price was reasonable and they offer special treats (eg, stuffed kongs) for an additional nominal charge. I don't know the specific circumstances. But contrary to another review that was posted, the prices, hours and cancellation policy are clearly posted on their web page. I experienced no rudeness, even when I dropped my dog off after the posted drop-off hours. This establishment was voted Harrisburg's Simply the Best for good reason. I will definitely use them again.

We reserved 9 days of kennel time for our 2 dogs at Stone Hill. Due to a change in vacation plans, we rescheduled the start date to begin 3 days later and returned 1 day early. There is no posted policy nor did the owner, Cindy, tell us at any time that we would be charged for the entire 9 day stay even though the dogs were only there for 5 days. We were charged the entire $324 fee for the 9 days rather than the 5-day rate of $180 (or a negotiable rate). The owner acted inconsiderate, unprofessional, spoke in a rude manner, and refused to reduce the fee to a negotiable rate. Beware of this kennel.

I hate going away and having to leave my two dogs (my kids) but I don't mind when we take them to Stone Hill. The kennel is always very clean and the dogs have an indoor/outdoor run where they can play. They also have a larger play area where the let the dogs out to run. My dogs always come home beat from playing so much. They also have grooming services available too.
