Nice place

by Dustin K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,455

Often billed as the premier park of Austin, Zilker Park was just a little bit disappointing. It provides everything a park should and then some, with areas for swimming, running, biking, sports, and even canoeing/kayaking. The location is nice; it has downtown views and a botanical garden to explore. Also available is a frisbee golf course. Zilker is also the site of Austin's annual Trail of Lights holiday celebration, a total reminder of how small-town Austin wants to be. It's a great place to go, just don't expect Central Park in NYC.

A beautiful park

by Sean H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,197

This park is huge with enough grassy area to do anything you want on most days without interference with others. There's picnicing, enough room to play soccer or ultimate. There's also cannoing which provides a nice outdoorsy date setting. There are beautiful parts of this park. My good friend proposed to his wife on a small, scenic bridge that spanned a creek. This is a great family place to do most any outdoor activity if you are in Austin.

Zilker Park truly has something for everyone. Their playscape is HUGE, there is canooing, soccer fields, picnic spots, nature center, botannical gardens, and many other attractions. You could go every day and find something new to enjoy.

PROS: LOTS to do
CONS: Pay parking on weekends.

Zilker Park

by Sunny M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 10,278

This is a very large park and very popular among fellow Austinites. There is walking/jogging paths for those looking for exercise. There is a ampitheatre, soccer fields, and a huge playscape appropriate for the very little to the pretty big. There is a river that runs through the park for getting wet and playing in. There is place in the park down by the water where you can rent canoes for the afternoon or by the hour (life vest provided). There is a small education building that teaches lessons about the origins of the springs. There is train you can purchase tickets to ride. Ride last about 20 minutes and goes around the park. There is a nature center, as well as botanical gardens.

swim, catch a show under the stars, play

by mary c. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,458

Zilker Park offers something for everyone in the family. Playgrounds and a mini steam railroad for kiddos, frisbee golf for mom and dad, Barton creek pool and picnic tables for everyone. In the summer, Zilker puts on the best free entertainment in the form of their summer musical. Bring a blanket, chairs and some food and enjoy broadway productions for FREE! can't beat that!

Zilker is a gift to the people of austin. Just a wonderful place to enjoy a beautiful day. We threw a bastille day party there once-- complete with croquet. lots of space and lots of parking (which depending on the day costs money)
