My son and I arrived for our appointment for his hypospadias condition. We were referred to him because he is the only pediatric urologist that serves the Colorado Springs area. My son Axel was 4 months old and I did research on hypospadias and chordee and I explained to him that I didn't even notice that he had a problem. He seemed to pee fine (good stream with a good arc) and I hadn't noticed any chordee (bend of the penis) since I had seen him with an erection and it seemed straight. I told him that I thought he had an extremely minor case of hypospadias....if any.
Dr. Bruce Blythe's response was extremely rude....he was rude and impolite the entire time! I couldn't believe it. He was so stuck up and thought he knew everything. He didn't even help guide me through the process by asking questions...he made me ask all the questions. He took a look at my son and said, "Oh the hypospadias isn't really the problem, it's the chordee...he needs surgery." And then I replied, "Well, is he going to be able to function normally-- like being able to get an erection without pain and pee standing up." He said, "He'll be able to be standing up but the pee is going to spray all over and downward."
I thought he was lying...from pictures I had seen at Stanford Medical Axel's problem seemed first degree...maybe even less...I told him I was going to get a second opinion. He got extremely defensive and replied, "Well if you're going to do that make sure you get someone that does this, not just anybody because I do 3 to 4 a week."
First off, I was not with my husband at the appointment so I think he was looking down on me for that reason and I also think he thought I was young because I do look young. But, I am 24 and I have a bachelor's degree...I felt very degraded...the response he gave me was as if I was stupid. It was so RUDE.
I scheduled a second opinion with Dr. Duncan Wilcox at the children's hospital in Denver. They were great and Dr. Wilcox was extremely professional and sensitive to the fact that he was looking at my son's private area. He also guided me by asking the questions and not making me ask all of them. Long story short, he took a look and said my son didn't even have hypospadias with chordee...all he had was a foreskin that formed more on the top and not the bottom...he said he didn't need surgery because he was fine and if I wanted I could schedule the circumcision.

Dr. Blyth is a great Dr. He did my sons surgery last year and He was so nice. I live in Colorado Springs so I was so happy to find out that he would do my sons follow up care here. I love that he came to the Springs to see us here. It helps with having to travel with small kids.

Dr. Blyth and his staff were wonderful, my son has had one surgery with Dr. Blyth, and i am on the phone as i type this to schedule his second surgery. I just love the service, and how we were treated we are a younger couple and our son has been in and out of surgeries sense the day he was born. Every other doctor we have had has treated us like we were incompetent children but not Dr. Blyth or his staff. They are just wonderful.

Dr. Blyth and his staff are all wonderful. They always treat you like family. My daughter has had surgery twice with Dr. Blyth and he has always taken GREAT care of her. During her hospital stay he came to visit her everyday to see how she was doing. If we had any questions or concerns he was always just a phone call away and always willing to help. They always explained everything in great detail. Dr. Blyth is a great doctor and I would recommend his practice to anyone.

My son recently finished treatment with Dr. Blyths office. I felt that the service and level of care received by Dr. Blyth and his office was excellent. They were always courteous, friendly and professional. Sometimes working your way through health care needs can be trying but they were always most helpful. Dr. Blyth and his nurses were always willing to answer my questions and explain things in detailed laymen terms. If you need a pediatric urologist, I recommend his office.
