I love Portland Monthly magazine. It does have a lot of ads but I find the articles very entertaining plus I love their "best of" editions. Want to know whats going on in Portland go get this magazine.

I'm a magazine lover, so naturally Portland Monthly would catch my eye. But I wondered how well could local news and in-depth articles be done and would they be appealing. I've been pleasantly surprised after reading several issues and now actively search out the newest copy to see what's happening in our town. The articles are informative and interesting. Frequently, there are stories regarding "the best of" i.e. doctors in Portland, summer vacation spots, etc. The photographs are well done also.

I had been subscribing to this monthly publication for almost a year, but have now canceled my initial 3-year subscription. What attracted me to it in the first place (apart from it being the only non-newsprint monthly glossy magazine for this area), was the semi-regular "Best Of" articles. As a newbie to Portland, these gave me a crash-course in various aspects of Portland living. However after a while I realized that the magazine is mainly filled with ads. It's definitely not worth $4 an issue. Subscribing for 3 years brings it down to 97c an issue, but that's still too much for the limited content.

PROS: The "Best Of" articles are always interesting.
CONS: More than half the magazine is filled with ads.
