Me and my boyfriend visited the area for our 3 year anniversary and decided to commemorate the event with a piece from the Clay House. We visited on Wednesday, Nov. 1st 2006 and were told that our piece would be ready on Sunday, the 5th and shipped out on the 7th (Mind you, we paid $15 for shipping through UPS...)Well its now the 10th and no bowl. UPS had assured me that for no reason would the package take longer than 24 hours to get here (Meaning that it would be here by Wednesday at the LATEST!)I called... the rude manager (who was so nice when we visited) explained that she didn't have a box big enough because this bowl was bigger than other things she sells (which isn't true). So all she could say was that she would try... not promise.. to ship it out tomorrow which means I won't get it till Monday.Needless to say she did not offer ANYTHING when at the very least I expected to have my shipping refunded. She didn't even have the decency to call and explain on Tuesday when she realized that she didn't have a box!..I work in customer service and I would NEVER treat my customers like this... especially when they spend this kind of $$So if you visit... make sure to arrange a pick up and don't dare pay for shipping.

PROS: Great fun and not too bad price wise
CONS: Post-purchase customer service is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!

I have been to the Clay House on a few occassions. It is located right off of Main Street in Old Saybrook - next to CVS.

Basically you get to make your own custom creations. They provide walls and shelves full of clay figurines, plates, bowls, cup, platters, knick knack boxes etc. You choose your item and they provide you with paints and a place to sit and start painting your own personal masterpiece.

It was a lot of fun, and who knew I could be so creative?

They allow children to have birthday parties there aswell. What a great place to go and just have some fun. There was a father there with his two children making a platter with the kids hand-prints on it while we were there. A great idea!
