Laurie's Planet of Sound is a music store with a large collection. They have all different types of music to choose from and their inventory is huge. They have all different types of music and their store is very well laid out. Their prices is on par with other music stores ad they usually have the CD you are looking for in stock. Rarely did I see any out of stock CDs in the rack. Very different experience than your typical music store which makes this place unique.

This store, a block up from the Old Town School of Music, is one of the gems of Chicago. The selection is great (and includes CDs, vinyl, books, and DVDs), the vibe is funky, and the staff recommendations go above and beyond the typical "what's good that's out this week, things that have recently been reissued" selections, and include weird finds like Scandinavian psychedelia.

Self-satisfied music geeks inspect local label releases, undiscovered LPs and almost impossible-to-find DVDs in trance-like fashion while skipping classes like philosophy 101. An older folk-seeking crowd, spillover from…
