Just moved to Mason from New Jersey. Family joined as Premier members and we are loving it! Classes are good, gym is great, staff are helpful and nice, pools are fabulous, plus walking tracks, basketball and more! We paid even more for a run down, beat up YMCA in New Jersey with 1/4 of the offerings. Do wish Mason residents would get a further discount, but still think the price is fair.

We are now penalized for not being a member and have to pay an out of resident fee for community basketball. The center believes they improved with the expansion but unfortunately we left because we didn't like or care for all the new fees and services. So we help pay for this center with our taxes but get no benefits of using it. This just confirms our decision for leaving

Sorry Michael P, but the rules are the rules. Why should your son receive preferential treatment to access the facility for FREE when any other "non-member" shouldn't expect to walk in for gratis. It's great your son chose the military but that is far from any legitimate reason for free service. pay up like the rest of the fine citizens of Mason.

BTW, the Center is FANTASTIC! If it weren't then I wonder why LifeTime Fitness keeps bombarding our mailbox with new incentives to join. Perhaps they are felling the pressure of an equal quality facility w/o all the snobbish pomp and circumstance they offer.

Used to be members of the community center for years. Recently had an experience with them that kind of reminds me why I left. My son, who is in final process of application to a military academy needed a facility with a mile track to run for his CFA (Candidate Fitness Assessment). The Community Center borders the High School, which my son attends. Because the military academies have very rigorous schedules for admissions, he had to do the CFA, which includes a mile run during Xmas break at the school. Because we could not access the 'fieldhouse' through the school during the break, we thought we would ask the Community Center if we could use their mile track for the test that will be conducted by the military for admissions (which takes about an hour). They told us, "sure, buy a one day pass for $20". Very gratious of them. Considering we could wait a week and go through the school for free and this is a kid that wants to serve his country, pretty petty of them.

This is my first visit to the community center since the remodel. It looks great and appears to have a much nicer workout facility. The pool has always been a hit with the kids.
I am not yet a member but plan to cost compare (and feature compare) with Lifetime fitness. So far, I like what I see.

I'm responding to the distorted complaints regarding the Mason Community Center. I have found the greatly expanded, not just remodeled, Mason Community Center to be a great value! It is not correct that you must pay for a year in advance. I pay by the month via convenient auto deduction from a bank account. And the price has not tripled or even doubled, I pay right at $30/Mo. for a single Premier Membership. They did however, triple the # of available exercise machines, a real plus. In addition it has a real U.S. Post Office, a store, a pharmacy, and a nice Cafe with coffee that rivals Starbucks. It also includes a new fully equipped gymnastics gym that is being utilized by a championship team. And the two different climbing walls are brand new additions, as are all of the Xergames that are wildly popular with the youth and children. Try getting that at a competitor for equal pricing.
And, as I understand it the new medical wing houses rent paying tennants that will help to keep the prices low into the future. I appreciate that the city is taking a business approach to operating this facility.
And finally, the huge taxes someone mentioned, must refer to their real estate tax which goes over 90% to the Mason Schools, not the City. The city maintains the lowest income tax rate of most any city in the area, 1%. Great job Mason!

Response: Not sure how Ben received his special deal. A single premiere membership is currently $72 a month. And drop in classes have gone from $6 per class to $20. That is more than triple the old rate. I still say they should no longer be allowed to use tax dollars or the name Mason "Community" Center, since it is of no benefit to be a Mason resident. Will spend my hard earned cash elsewhere.

*****************

After remodeling, Mason Community center more than tripled the cost for drop-in exercise classes. Pre-registered program rates increased by 50%. This is extortion. We will no longer be participating in any programs. Should not be called the Mason COMMUNITY center, since it is no longer affordable for community members. We pay huge taxes here in Mason, and for the community center to fleece us again to pay for its facelift with no added value? Just terrible.

Unbelievable is all I have to say when I called the Mason Community Center to ask about their new prices. I simply cannot justify paying $61.50 a month for this newly remodeled building when there is nothing extra I am gaining to remain there. I used to be able to pay each month, now I MUST do automatic withdrawal and if I don't pay for one year in advance, I am charged $100.00 to set up the automatic withdrawal, so tact that on to the final monthly fees and we are not getting more for the money. The Rock Climbing Wall, the Kiddie Zone, and other amenities that used to be all inclusive, you now pay individually for if you have the basic plan. Classes are still not apart of the premier package but the price for the monthly premier package for a family of four is over 91.00 a month! Let's not forget that this center is not just another work out center, it's a community center, paid for by community members......so Where's the Benefit For the Community Members, Mason? Disgusting how much money this city spends and leaks down to us. Shame on you...we should change the name to read.... Mason Money Sucking Center and say it with an evil grin. Fitness 19 here I come!

The Mason recreation center is a newly built facilty that contains a full fledged fitness center, leisure pool, competition pool, gymnasium and other facilites. The membership fees are reasonable when compared to other fitness centeres in the vicinity. Kids can be let off at the childcare facilites that are available at nominal cost to members. Another option is the jungle themed indoor playground for kids. The center has group exercise sessions including yoga and pilates. Various classes are also conducted. We took a swimming class recently.
There is a game room with ping pong, billiards etc. There is a separate senior activity area with separate bridge membership. Rooms are available for rent for parties etc. I would recommmend to any Mason resident.
