I've been to at least 4 different bird stores and I have to say this is probably the store I trust in the most and the store which will have my business for a long time. Unlike Bird Paradise, Fancy Feathers actually care about their birds. I bought a Sunday Conure from them and not only was the bird set at a reasonable price but it was well socialized and could already talk! When it was time to take our Conure home she not only gave me instructions on which foods my new Conure prefers but gave me a free bag of the feed mix. I will always go to this store for bird food because not only do they have a nice selection but the prices are also fair. I probably pay $8 for 2llbs of feed. Although they don't have the widest selection of birds, you can immediately tell that the birds they do sell are healthy and well socialized. Their payment system is pretty flexible too. I've also noticed that they're always happy to see their old birds if you go there for a visit.
Now, I was concerned at first because when I looked at several of their birds the birds looked a bit sick, I confronted the owner, Ursala, and said that those birds are actually rescue birds.

Ursula cares about all the birds in her store more than anyone you can imagine and is extremely focused on finding them all good homes. I e-mailed her about the parrot I wanted for five months and she answered all my questions. The store is clean and has an amazing aviary. The conure I bought was amazingly tame and loves playing with everyone. The store's owner also caters to the birds' specific needs. Not only did she give me a bag of food with my parrot for free, she also gave me a jar of my parrot's favorite treat. The cages are almost spotless and the whole place is clean. Countless birds at Fancy Feathers can already talk! Everyone at the store is friendly and loves a conversation. I even got to see the fledglings in the back of the store in their incubators. The birds at Fancy Feathers are extremely lucky.

Fancy Feathers is a wonderful birdstore...THE BEST! It is run by a pair of very knowledgeable bird-lovers who are more concerned with making sure that birds and owners are properly matched than with simply selling a bird. I have purchased a Congo African Grey, two blue and gold macaws and one calico macaw from Karl and Ursula, the owners. I return to the store often to purchase food, toys, and other supplies, as well as to have all of my birds groomed. My children, pets and I are always welcomed back like family, and I notice while I am there how the staff greet most customers (and their birds) by name, which speaks volumes about the way the business views its customers and the high rate of customer retention! This is certainly not the biggest birdstore in NJ, but it is the BEST!

My wife and I started small from purchasing a Conure and from there owning a Green Wing Macaw.
The staff at Fancy Feathers are great! Ursula, Karl, Joyce and Janet are the most knowledgeable people concerning birds. They are always helpful and caring. I??m impressed how people travel from the Tri-State area to visit, purchase, and use their grooming and boarding services.
The staff is like a family and their birds well cared for. To the poster who complains about a little dust, you must have had a bad day after the bird nipped you. I??ll take a little dust, verses birds that are sick and behind glass any day. How the bird is housed and treated is what keeps me returning. Clean cages and love given to each bird, makes their stay the most important points. No I??m not an employee but a satisfied customer who likes the individual care and concern about my birds which keeps me coming back.

I have been visiting Fancy Feathers regularly for over 5 years. At one time I recommended this store, coming to its defense by those who raved about the big parrot shops in Burl. Co. or chain pet stores. I feel that I can no longer do that.

I highly suspect that the celebratory reviews posted in the last few months are not real but rather written by the store employees themselves.

Fancy Feathers has a limited selection of products: food, treats, toys and cages. The store itself is generally rather clean but dusty. The staff, however knowledgeable they may be, are often rude and dismissive. Ursula can be pleasant one day and downright abusive the next.

I opted to board my parrot at Fancy Feathers after my vet highly recommended them for safety, etc. BIG MISTAKE. My parrot, who was generally well-behaved and personable beforehand is now an aggressive parrot. He bites. He lunges. He screeches. He is a COMPLETELY different parrot than the one I dropped off for boarding. To say that the staff spends time socializing their boarders is a load of bull. I've never seen them to it on my numerous visits to the store and I'm certain that they didn't to it when I boarded there.

I don't know how this store continues to stay afloat in this economy. I really don't.

Late last year I called Fancy Feathers to ask if they had any young Macaws. Ursula answered any and all questions, so the following day I took the 65 mile trip and paid them a visit. Upon entering I was speechless. Having seen just about any and all exotic bird stores in the Tri-State Area, I had never seen one that was as immaculate as this one. Numerous birds, from Hyacinth Macaws to Conures were out on huge gyms and perches, playing, greeting customers.
Well, I found my dream bird, a baby B&G Macaw, however, he was only 8 weeks old. I quickly put down a deposit, because I was made aware that they will not sell any abundantly weaned baby bird. I was thoroughly impressed again.
I visited Nikolai 2-3 times/week, and each time the store was super clean, Ursula, Karl & their awesome staff were all too willing to answer any and all of my questions.
I could not have possibly found a healthier, better adjusted bird than my Nikolai, and better yet, I've found life-long friends with all of Fancy Feathers.

I've been dealing with Fancy Feathers for 8 years now. Each and every time I enter the store, I'm always greeted with a big hello. Ursula, Carl, Jackie, Joyce and all the people that work at Fancy Feathers are true "bird people" and are always willing to share their knowledge and expertise about birds, cages, toys and so on.
I bought my little Meyer's Parrot from Fancy Feathers and have been extremely pleased over the last 7 years. Each and every time I go on vacation, Ursula and her staff take excellent care of both my birds. They not locked in their cages 24/7. Ursula and her staff are always sure to socialize my birds and give them some time out of the cage as they are used to being treated at home.
Fancy Feathers is always immaculate. I'm always amazed at how this store is kept so clean with all the daily activity. If you are looking for a feathered friend, I would highly recommend Fancy Feathers.

I wanted to get an Umbrella Cockatoo and looked at at least 6 shops. Upon entering Fancy feathers, I was greeted by the staff and explained what I wanted and they directed me through the store and explained all the pros, cons, and challenges of the bird and the lifelong commitment. Charlie was not weened yet, so I visited him for about six weeks to bond with him. Every time I went to the store, ok, daily, the staff was always there to answer questions. They never made me feel like I was being a pain. The store was always spotless, no odors, even when they were in the daily process of cleaning the cages. Birds, especially the large ones can be very messy and the only time I saw a shell on the floor was when it was just thrown out. Someone promptly cleaned it up. Three years later I still visit the store for food, supplies, grooming or help as I am no bird expert. Ursela, Carl and the rest of the staff were like family. I send them pictures of Charlies antics and they never let me down.

All I can say is WOW!! I have owned parrots and been to many bird stores in my life but this place is the worst store I have EVER seen. Birds are all in cages and will bite due too poor or NO socialization, birds are dirty, pulling feathers and not nice at all. What a total shame! The Berlin Mart makes this place look clean, this place should be closed!!!!

I went to many Exotic Bird stores looking for a pet. When I walked into Fancy Feathers I knew I'd found the right place. When I opened the door, a large bird out on a perch waved his leg at me & said "Hello" As I walked through the store, various kinds of birds spoke to me. Some said "I love you", Sunny, an African Grey counted to 4 & told me to "shut the door"! I purchased my African Grey (Sammy) when she was still an egg. After she was born, I went & played with her almost every day. The owners of Fancy Feathers, Ursula & Carl, taught me how to handle and care for "Sammy". Every day was a learning experience. Before I could bring Sammy home, Ursula & Carl made sure Sammy was weaned, & I had been trained to be a "Good Mommy". They made it very clear Sammy would not leave the store until I had been properly trained! When I bring Sammy back for visits, she is so happy to see Ursula, Carl, Jackie, Eddie & Joyce (the employees). Sammy remembers them and how much she is loved by them! When I have to go away on business, Sammy goes to stay with her second family at Fancy Feathers, where I know she is cared for and loved.

Owners are 2 of the nicest people you will ever meet! Ursela is wonderful with the birds, and patient in helping you find the right bird, or products for your bird(s). The store is a joy to visit, because the exotic birds keep you entertained with their talking, singing, and dancing!
