I head for Newbury Perennial Gardens on those gorgeous spring days when I just can't stay inside any longer. It's a fine nursery for native and other interesting perennials, shrubs, ground covers, vines, and trees. Try some native woodland wildflowers or wintergreen ground cover for the shady spot under the oak. Or pick up some graceful swamp azaleas that make the over-hybridized big-box-store plants look like plastic. You find worthy non-native options too -- roses, irises, hellebores, some good compact evergreens. The rural setting and onsite display garden encourage day dreaming about your garden at home. Frequent buyers get discounts, too!
