My laptop screen fades to grey while in use on a reoccurring basis. Took it to the Wallingford PCW who then sent it to the Orange branch. They diagnosed the problem as a faulty screen. I paid them to replace the screen. It did not correct the problem. Took the computer back to them. They then said it was the LCD cable. 4 weeks later I get the laptop back and the problem remains the same. The screen still fades to grey while in use on a reoccurring basis. In addition, there is NO communication between the Orange & Wallingford branches. I had to hound them to get information about what was being done and why it was taking so long. I'd give them 0 stars if the website would let me.

I wish i read the reviews BEFORE i brought my pc there. I pressed a button i should not have & I lost my internet connection. a simple fix for some pro. i brought it in and it supposedly was fixed in 2 daysk and several hours later. the guy called and said he would be at the store at 7:30 pm. he never showed & I had to come back the next day. they told me it was fixed and i drove home only to find that they changed a lot of screens, lost my email and favorites mand corrupted my mcafee security which "allowed" 300 viruses that they "removed" for me. will add more tomorrow

The technicians are very helpful and very down to earth. They explained all the issues the was resolved and gave me advice as to what i had to do the keep my computer running fast. and the price was resonable

A+++++ work.. I will bring all my computer there.

Spring 2010 dropped my Lenovo laptop off to these guys to diagnose and fix an issue.
Rang within a week with garbled message PC ready, ? I thought, a simple fix.
No, motherboard bollixed was the diagnosis, well do you/can you fix this? No, no experience with Lenovo, $29 please.

Left leaving me with that gut wrenching feeling my $700 Lenovo was now an expensive paperweight.

I recently got hold of a Lenovo Technical manual and will get a m/b from Ebay and have a go myself.

They will not get any further business from me if ever I have any.

the first time I took my lap top and ps3 they gave it back after paying x amount, took it home and nothing was different. I called them to xplain the situation and they acted as if they didn't understand the issue. They were rude, very rude and unprofessional! Their communication skills are awful! They are never done with your property when they say they will be done! Therefore they make you travel certain miles for a disappointment! Never have I ever experienced something this awful, a company that is everywhere!! That is AWFUL! I would never refer anyone to them or will I ever go back!!

I went here a while back with an Xbox issue. I had the RROD without the red rings. I knew what caused the problem, but now how to fix it (I'm not very hands on, but I am knowledgeable). Someone had recommended this place to me, so I decided to go since my warranty was over and done with.

Anyway, after waiting a while in the store to even get service, I had to pay a $30 diagnosis fee that I was told would be subtracted from the amount it would be to fix it. Ok, fine. They said it would be done in about a week.

A week and a half later, I called, and they told me it wasn't done yet. Three and a half weeks later, I called again, NOT DONE. I called constantly up until about four and a half weeks after I dropped it off, and they told me to come pick it up, not explaining anything. (Side note: Every time I called, they were rude and kept me on hold for extremely long amounts of time... they aren't THAT busy!)

I finally get there, and they tell me the cost to fix it would be, give or take, $350. EXCUSE ME? I said NO WAY. And I walked out of there.

Later that month, I went out and bought a new Xbox. For almost $150 CHEAPER than it would be for those DUMB A$$e$ to fix it.

NEVER EVER EVER GO HERE!

PCW COMPUTER IS A RIP OFF AND THEY ARE TERRIBLE!

this co. has the worst customer service i have ever seen, the only pleasant employee is the young kid at the front desk, it is a shame that he is the youngest and put all the other so called techs to shame...they dont speak proper english so you can barely understand them...the woman are rude unprofessional and to say the least not very bright ..i work for a big co. who uses them very frequently, but since i told them my experience they are no longer going to use them as well as our smaller busineses i will never do business with them again will make everyone aware of rude and tacky especially the front desk girl with no phone etiquette and lack of customer service skills. its a shame the owner of this co. does not value his customers and continues to allow these kind of people to work for him..i am 1 of many people that feel this way.....

Great service, amazing prices. I brought my computer there to repair the plug and they were able to fix it for half of what best buy wanted to charge me. I realy recomend bringing your pc here. the staff were all realy nice and helpfull

I'm shocked at how poorly this business is run considering how many computers they have in there.. I drop my laptop off for a "minor" problem on May 7th, I get it back on May 25th ...are you kidding me?

What's even more embarrassing for them, is they tell me it'll take 3-5 days. Okay. Then they don't bother telling me they have to order a part for the laptop, so I have to call them to figure out what's taking so long. They tell me the part will be there in a few days. Okay. The part takes literally 2 weeks to get there. And they tell me they "rush order" all of their parts. Yeah, sounds it. I work at a UPS store..so I KNOW unless they ordered this part from the depths of Australia and refused to pay for it to be airborne at any time during its journey would it have taken 2 weeks to get to Connecticut. Sorry. That's some bull. Rush order my ass.

When the part finally arrived from Melbourne or wherever, the mysterious man in the back of the store took a solid week to replace the part. FYI, it was a cable connecting my webcam to the rest of the computer. I mean, it doesn't sound like something I could do, but it also doesn't sound like something that should take 7 days. Open heart surgery doesn't take 7 days, but I'm sure this man (who won't even give you an estimate on how long the repairs will take once it's one his "bench") will tell you his job is JUST as difficult as that.

Furthermore, why is only ONE mysterious man doing ALL of the repairs in that place? You have about 15 useless employees who stand around with their fingers up their noses..why not teach them to do something productive? Or how about teaching them customer service skills?

I'm praying they fixed my laptop because I hope for their sake and mine I never have to return to that place. I'd rather pay the $168 out-of-warranty fee and send it back to the computer's manufacturer than be dicked around by these pompous idiots ever again.

Learn from my mistake & don't bother.

I probably went to PCW about at most 3 or 4 times. The guys in there don't speak fluent english...I can see many of them are foreigners. They dont have customer respect or "happy to see you" kinda look on their face. I had short answers from one of these idiots and asked to speak with the manager. Today I brought in my adapter charger for my laptop cuz I had a warranty on it....3 months according to them and this ****ING idiot basically brought me back the same ****ing charger telling me it was a "new one" when I plugged it back in, it was not the same one!!!! What he did was put a sticker with today's date on my SAME ADAPTER. It was the same one he gave back!!!

What is the big deal with giving a new adapter?? I mean it is not like you are handing me free money!!!

WHen it comes to getting paid these idiots are all ears......show them the money they will help you; don't offer them anything, they don't give ****.....

There prices are too high.....when it comes to repair and to be honest, going inside the store looks like it is a filthy cheap place rented out from a dump abandoned building.......I am surprised people actually gave this place a 5 STAR.......if I had a choice this place deserves a "0 star" not even a 1...

Taking your computer to PCW to be fixed is like taking your car to some guy sitting in his driveway saying 'I can totally fix that, let me get the duct tape.'

The technicians are uncertified, often untrained, and treated like dirt, which gives them oh-so-much motivation to do the job right. There is not a single program they use to fix your issues that can't be acquired for free online with a quick five minute search. Your computer will then sit on a dirty rack in the corner until someone who speaks English as a (very) second language leaves you a vague and nigh-incomprehensible voicemail to come pick up your computer, which has about a 50% chance of both having the original issue fixed and no new ones caused by a rushed diagnosis and hasty slapdash fix.

It's almost tempting to say when you first drop off your equipment that you should lie about your name and other information, because it is stored on an unsecured computer in the back room connected to the Internet 24/7 with nothing protecting your name, zip code, phone number, passwords and whatever else from hackers except that same free anti-virus program they'll charge you $90 to use while they rifle through your personal files looking for music of movies looking for ways to pass time.

But feel free to check it out for yourself; I only worked there for a year, so maybe I'm not sure, right?

if you speak spanish or chinese you will be ok walking in the door, otherwise you will never understand what they are telling you or how much it is going to cost. i went there for them to figure out what is wrong with my computer cause it wouldnt get any icons on the screen and told them to call me after they figure it out. i was told by someone that i cold bearly understand that it would be done in 3 days, after 2 weeks and me calling non stop to find out what is going on, and being told that someone is working on it and they would call me back the next day, they called and said my computer was finished 2 days after i dropped it off!! when i asked what was wrong with it they said i had viruses and that it would be $90 for me to pick it up. the only thing i wanted them to do was tell me what was wrong with it, i didnt want them to do any work to it!!!!! when i got it home i still had the same problem. when i went back the same day they told me that cause it was a virus that there is no warranty and that i would have to pay another $90 or me to get it "fixed" again. this place is a scam. they love taking your money. the $30 "diagnosis fee" is a joke, cause when you drop it off they fix it anyway with out any approval. and expect you to pay for a repair. and they dont even warranty work they do, if they really do anything at all!

i would say DONT GO THERE!!!! even if its the last place on earth to go

It took me 10 days for diagnostic on my pc and at the end the pc was "repair" but only worked 5 days more. Please don't bother going over there. The tech guys only work there for a week, it seems to be that Chinese guy only pays the minimum wage and the good tech move out quickly.

PCW Computer gave me fast and efficient service. I was told about every future payment from day 1 when I brought my laptop in to fix.

In 3 days, I was phoned that my laptop was ready to be picked up. I tested it out there and everything was running smoothly.

It has been 2 months since I visited, and my laptop is as good as when it left their shop.

I would highly recommend this store to anyone in the area!

I was told by Omar to bring in a hard drive for them to put the information from my broken laptop on. I came in with the hard drive and was told by someone else (who wouldn't give me a name) that they had already burned the information for me. The man with no name, was rude and insisted it was better that way. I told him I was not satisfied and he ignored me and went to another customer. I left. What they gave me was useless. It was a work computer I brought in and there isn't anything at work that can read the disks! That's almost $100 for absolutely nothing! I used to refer people to PCW all the time. Now, I would not go back and would not recommend them to anyone else.

If you know literally anything about computing, you have no business walking through these doors. They offer two main things: PC parts and virus/spyware cleanup. If you need PC parts and aren't afraid of online shopping, go to Newegg.com or Tigerdirect.com. They are about as cheap as it comes and have an embarrassingly larger selection. If you need virus removal, as I did, don't bother with these guys. I'm relatively tech-saavy and know how to trawl the web for answers, but I got a really terrible virus and just wanted to be done with it. These guys took it for 5 days, called me up and told me it was all set, then when I took it home, three things were different: they changed the screen resolution, added a shareware antivirus program, and windows wouldn't start up. When I finally got it to start, the virus was still there, and blatantly so. $75 for that. Unbelievable. I eventually found a solution on website forums. If you're AT ALL aware of how a computer works, and at a point where you need a virus gone and you're willing to pay money, do not go to PCW. Go to experts-exchange.com and buy a subscription. It's cheaper and they actually solve problems. I gave them 2 stars instead of one because they were at least courteous and offered to look at it again.

I'm relatively tech-saavy and know how to trawl the web for answers, but I got a really terrible virus and just wanted to be done with it. These guys took it for 5 days, called me up and told me it was all set, then when I took it home, three things were different: they changed the screen resolution, added a shareware antivirus program, and windows wouldn't start up. When I finally got it to start, the virus was still there, and blatantly so. $75 for that. Unbelievable. I eventually found a solution on website forums. If you're AT ALL aware of how a computer works, and at a point where you need a virus gone and you're willing to pay money, do not go to PCW. Go to experts-exchange.com and buy a subscription. It's cheaper and they actually solve problems. I gave them 2 stars instead of one because they were at least courteous and offered to look at it again.

I have been a customer for more than four years. During that time, they have done major and minor repairs to my business computers. All the repairs were done correctly and the cost was far less than if I had gone to CompUSA or a similar store.

I have also used their in-home service. They arrive on time, work quickly, do the repairs successfully and charge me a very fair price.

These guys are so frustrating to deal with, their prices are dirt cheap yeah that is great! But is you don't speak Chinese your pretty much out of luck. I told the guy four times to save my pictures, the guy just kept nodding and Voilla today my pictures are Gone! All my priceless family photos, Gone!

We've have been using PCW's service now for over 5 years, both for home and business needs. Their staff is very knowledgable and friendly. One of their employees has been working on our equipment for these past few years and has always done a great job and is excellent in teaching us to how to operate, troubleshoot etc in case of mishaps.

As a independent power equipment dealer, I always try to use the independent guy vs. the chain store. Not only do they know what they are talking about, but they care. Prices for service are reasonable, not overly priced. If you want quality service, you're going to pay for it. It's as simple as that.

I would recommend this company to anyone.

I have been in the PC business for over 15 years and on occasion stop by here for parts. This facility is definitely geared to the end (home user) not business nor networking . Having said that I would only request services in their knowledge realm. I don't think ant of the techs are certified.

Services they can perform:
Hard drive upgrades
System restores (to factory settings no additional software)
video upgrades
memory upgrades
power supply replacements
Mother replacement ??
backup and restore
install software pkg (nothing custom)mostly stock stuff

OS's they are ok with:
vista (32 bit) home and premium (no 64bit ultimate or business versions)
XP MCE? (64bit NO!)
98, ME, (ok)

Heavy gamers (no)

Supplies:
Need to know what you need before going here.
Eg. Not all power supplies are alike (wattage, short protection, over and under voltage protection, types 24pin, 24 pin & 6, 24 pin & 8 etc. etc. etc.
supports sata (or needs adapters)?
PCI support?

Rule of thumb>>> determine what you are going to do with the system. Eg. word processing, accounting, games, heavy calculations, >>>then buy the hardware to meet the need of the software. Never waste money on hardware as it is obsolete in 6 months...buy what you need nl at the time>>>> hardware prices usually drop as new technolog is introduced into the market. Prepare to buy new systems as upgrades are not always cheaper.
Eg. ddr memory is 3x the cost of ddr2 in some cases and ddr2 is faster!

When I went into their old location, it was not as bad as what I have read. The location was too small.They since moved into a bigger location which is better. Personally though they should have a back room location where they can work on the computers away from the sales location. I am very happy with their work. CompUSA charged way too much to have work done. Very good service everytime I have been there.

This company lost my laptop. I took it in for repair and after calling them a week later they had no idea who I was. I called again and asked for a manager who told me they were trying to locate my laptop. My boss at work was furious with me because it was a company laptop and technically I was not supposed to take it to a third party repair place. I made a really bad decision because after stalling as long as I could my manager at work called me into the office asked me about the company laptop and when I had no good answers I got FIRED!! I urge everyone out there not to make the mistake of using these people. They are irresponsible do no not communicate at all and it looks like they do not accept responsibility either because I am still without my laptop.

i went to pcw to find a internal laptop wireless card. when i walked in the store was messy and its not clear where the customer area ends and the tech area starts. i was totally ignored while i stood at the counter for 5 minuets. when i got tired of waiting for service i started looking on the shelves for the part. a lady behind the counter started watching me like i was going to grab something and run. she wouldn't help me. but she could watch me. after thoroughly checking the shelves for the part i wandered into the tech area (at least i think it was). when someone finally asked me if i needed help. the person barely spoke English. i asked them for the internal laptop wireless card. they gave me an external card. i said no not external internal. the handed me a second external card from a different manufacture. i asked if someone else can help but no one would. eventually a second person came to help. in a very rude manor said "what exactly are you looking for". i felt like asking if he needed a map or picture. but i calmly explained. he said he didn't know what it was. i mean come on this is what you do for a living. i had heard some good stuff about them but i guess it wasn't true. I spent 45 minuets in the store for something that should have taken 5. there must be a better place to go. the geek squad is awful, the manufactures are a waste of time, compusa is just worthless (they don't Evan know where to find parts in there own store), and now this. dose any one know what there doing. i just want some good service. and they don't have it, so dont waste your time.

I don't understand this place. It has a great location and several employees. However, when my secretary went in for an ink cartridge refill to these so-called specialists, she had to wait forever just to be told she would have to wait a whole day to get our cartridge back. Perhaps that would work for a retiree, but I am trying to run a small business with deadlines and I only have 1 printer to do it with. I was disappointed AND inconvenienced but forced to wait because i didn't know of any alternatives. Plus I had to use Kinkos to print all my documents for 2 days. Please, somebody open another store in Orange.

Aside from the fact that the cartridge leaked all over the front seat of my car ruining my leather seats these people do not have any person to hold accountable. It's a small buisness and kind of messy inside and the equipment and computer supplies they have are mostly do it yourself so if you're not good with computers, you might not know what to do with everything. The staff is more knowledgable than chain stores by far and you might be able to find better deals on used accessories than if you went to that big chain store. Their cost for fixing a computer is a little steep but then again, if you can't do it yourself, it's better than nothing.
