Comparing Arts prices to Walmarts is kind of unfair. The small business owner can not compete with a walmart price wise. I've never seen any of the employees behave rudely towards anyone.

I went to arts when art owned it in 96 and the first time I purchased a item it was an aquarium cost 400.00 and when I got it home I took the light apart and it was full of cockroaches!!! About 6 months ago I went there because it was under new ownership and I will tell you that the customer service was still the same non existent and rude. I just got a puppy and went past there on my way to another store, long story short I ended up buying a small dog kennel for 80.00. I was In Walmart saw the same thing for 50& and when I called the store they gave me this line that the cage was unreturnable because of health issues even though the age wasn't open. They said it was pa health dept law they said. My foot. So now instead of arts rude uneducated self working there the new owners are liars thieves pompous and they act like they know more than the customer buying product for their animal. Overpriced and just people who are out to make a buck instead of really loving animals isn't that why you would own a pet store or any private business deli whatever because u like what u do? Dept of health and consumer relations please help unsuspecting people and close this place down.

I bought a kitten at arts animals two years ago one month after my sister died and my mom two later now she died from under developed kidneys. I loved my cat so much she was the comfort I needed. You should be closed for hurting animals and people like that.

We bought a kitten there few yes agoand she's in good health. We bought a kitten from the spca so the current category had a "friend" few days later it died. So I doubt arts has "sick" animals

If you shop at Art's Animals, you should be ashamed. He sells kittens too young to be away from their mothers and his puppies are from puppy mills. Of course he lies about all this. If any of you on here deny this or defend him, it's only because he is asking you to (or you're a moron). He is in the same class as the owner of We Love Pets, another piece of pond scum who denies buying from puppy mills yet an easy investigation can confirm same. Nicademia, you are a disgrace. You claim you are a vet tech but I seriously doubt it. If you were, you would never even set foot in Art's store let alone take your children there. I am a real vet tech and 90% of the animals from Art's Animals that come into our hospital are sick or have a congenital defect. Even the vets sigh when they see a new puppy or kitten from Art's. A friend of mine used to work at Art's but quit because of the neglect and shady things Art does. She witnessed two occasions where Art ordered employees to put dying puppies (from puppy mills) in the freezer in the hopes they would die instead of him having to take them to the vet. We can only wonder how many times this has really happened when no one was looking.

About a week or two ago, I went in to this place looking for a spicific wet food for my cat and some new toys for my dog. When I asked an employee if they carried fancy feast, she turned her nose up at me and said they only sold specific brands of wet "because that fancy feast stuff was garbage". She began showing me this weird brand I have never seen before saying it was better for my cat and whatnot.

I was not very happy with the rude and arrogant attitude presented here. Bother than that I wouldn't have had a problem but I felt bullied and belittled shopping here. .

It's very unfortunate for Art's Animals that because of their poor customer service & high prices that are on the verge of thieving people's pockets that don't know any better... that they're ultimately going to go out of business. It's a vicious cycle, charge more then another private pet store & you lose business, don't honor agreements you make with your customers you lose business, are rude & lacksy daisy with your customers you lose business... if you start treating your customers like you actually care about them, then you'll have repeat customers who will pass the good word along which will generate more customers. LOW PRICE is unfortunately the key word. When your customer service isn't enough to keep a customer, at least you have your low prices, when you have neither, bye bye business is the end result.

I recently purchased stuff for a pet from them, i didn't purchase the pet because they never seem to have anything new & realized they were overpriced for the merchandise. When i inquired about the pricing, i was told they would adjust the prices if i brought back proof of the products price from the other stores & that Art always tries to keep his prices the same as other stores & would adjust the pricing accordingly on store stock & give me back the difference in money. Well i wasted my time & gas going to get pricing of the stuff i bought from Art's from the other stores because when i went in they wouldn't honor what they had told me less then 24hrs prior. It's really disheartening to be lied to & the only reason i even went there was because at one point they weren't wallet thieves, they were reasonable & the customer service kept me coming back. But after today i am not going to continue dumping my money into a place that is all about the money & not at all about the animals or customers. I can't stand employees that act like a refund or price adjustment is coming out of their pockets.

To make matters worse i've gone into the store to find employees sleeping on the floor behind the counter, when you wake them up they act bothered!!! They put puppies in with each other that don't get along & all you hear while in there shopping is dogs screaming & snarling & you'll ultimately end up with a small dog with a bully's temperament.

When they go out of business i hope they know it is because of their business practices that flushed them down the toilet. When they moved into Alpine drug's building i had high hopes for Art's. They have proved me wrong, again & again. Art is a disgruntled old man that is just about the buck & not the quality. His motto is quantity over quality. When you overcharge you lose customers & when your employees lie to customers to make a sale you lose future business... when you lose business you lose your business. Everything they sell i can buy from walmart now for AT LEAST 1/2 the price. They have stiff competition and the only way they get away with it is if the customer doesn't do their homework. Now that i've been deceived i will not be returning.

Bedding is $6.99, Walmart $4.99, Water bottles $6.99, Walmart $1.98, Pet hut $3.99, We love Pets $1.99, Food $5.99, Walmart $2.99, Lee's Medium Size Critter Cage $12.99, We love pets $9.99

If you're gonna overcharge your products vs every other chain store as well as privately owned pet store at least up your customer service. If you have fantastic customer service you have a fighting chance of keeping your customers, when you have neither, you will not get business... my business is now gone from Art's because of failure in all categories.

Be careful when you purchase rabbit supplies from Art's Animals. I was told the pellets with the seeds and nuts were good for rabbits when nuts and seeds are bad for a rabbits' digestive system. Also, I was told the best rabbit litter (Carefresh) was bad for a rabbit and the pine and cedar shaving type litters were good for a rabbit. Not true. Your best source of rabbit information is the House Rabbit Society www.rabbit.org

Buying a pet from this store was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. DO NOT consider buying an animal here. If you expect the owner to be customer-focused and fair, you will be extremely disappointed.

i have been going to arts animals for a long time now. almost 5 years now. ive never had a bad experience. i got my kitten there 4 years ago,she was in good health then and now. every time i was there the employes were helpful and professional. they would give good advice. i do think their puppies are overpriced, but ive never seen them sick. i will continue to go there to shop and just look around.

I don't know what you people are talking about. I'm a vet tech and I've never seen one "sick" looking animal there. I've been going here since a little kid. I still go a few times a month for food and supplies. I bring my kids there now so trust me I have to stop and look at every animal they have. I don't condone breeding animals but they do take care of all their animals there. NO pet store is perfect, but they are much better than some other places around here.

I bought a cage for hermit crabs and the night before they died. I went to return everything, and the owner would not put the money back on my card. After I spend the money for this store, I WILL NEVER GO BACK there for POOR customer SERVICE!

Just so everyone knows, Arts Animals gets their puppies from private breeders, and they will not "kill you" with prices as you get a cage, collar, food, etc for free when you buy the puppy and you can get the puppy for a very reduced price. To all the people who had bad experiences, yeah they have their problems, but if you see something wrong with your animal.. bring it back within a reasonable time where i can be proven that you weren't the one who didn't take enough care of it. The puppies sometime's come in with something called "Kennel cough" which is really just a cold, a small bit of antibiotics (which they give them) and it clears quick. If you had a problem with "bad service" then you're just unlucky, the people who work there are extremely knowledgable, all you need to do is pick the right person. There's people that work to simply clean, dust, or do the tanks. these people may not be as knowledgable as others so ask for a manager (I.E Dan, Steve, Shannon, Cindy) and they'll help you with whatever you need. Also, the reason the kittens are skinny, young, etc is because they adopt them to prevent them from dying and do their best to save them and bring them to good health. how can you deny kittens if they're pretty much force fed to you from people who don't know how to take care of them and leave them on the doorstep in a box; flea ridden and hungry. they bring them in, bathe them, and give them the necassary food to bring them to good health. Art's Animals has been there for decades, you think if they were so "inhumane" or unhelpful they'd still be there? and how would they pass all the regulations. answer that please. also it's not illegal to sell pigs or alligators in Pennsylvania, and they don't sell them frequently as they hate it, but if someone special orders it they will fulfill their requests.

Art's Animals is inhumane. The only reason I would tell someone to buy an animal from there is to save it. Otherwise I wouldn't give them a penny. For years now they almost ALWAYS have kittens that were taken away from their mother too soon (which is illegal for Art's to accept these animals). Cat's that get out of the house that are not fixed alot of times return home and give birth. The owners simply don't feel like taking care of a litter of kittens and their mommy long enough. They take the kittens to arts animals to be sold. Then you buy a cat who hasn't learned or fully developed enough which CAN lead to a nasty cat. Which then leads to taking them to the SPCA or a shelter because the cat is too mean. That may not be true in all cases but its very wrong to take the kittens away too soon. They need their mothers milk. Not to mention it's ILLEGAL. They also take sick animals. I bought a cat that was sick and they did not inform me. They also lie about their age. I have seen this for many years at Art's Animals. The owner does not care about what is legal or humane, but just about the money. That is why they illegally sell animals like baby alligators and pigs?! Animals may not appear to be sick in the cages because they are in a "sick" environment. It's only when you take the animals out of that environment will you then notice... I need to take my pet to the vet! I am not someone trying to bash Art's Animals and shut them down. I want to inform people that this kind of stuff happens. Believe it or not. You can also check info around the web.. research a little.

Sorry it was so long.
Sorry if it doesn't completley make sense.
Feel free to contact me with questions or replys.

I am writing on behalf of all the animals "For Sale" in pet stores. The all come from "breeding mills" similar to puppy mills. The conditions are horrific, the only thing of concern with all parties involved is the money from the sale of the animal. The people involved in selling pets do not know the first thing about how to properly care for the pets they sell. If they did, they would not try to "sell" animals to every person who walks through the door. Every person who wants a pet should not have a pet. I am a veterinary technician, have worked in shelters and with many rescues. I have seen many, many animals surrendered to shelters from pet stores in horrible condition. If you really love animals, go to your local rescue and save a life! They will give you all the information you need to properly care for your pet FOR LIFE. Please visit www.petfinder.com to find your next pet. There are millions of animals of all kinds awaiting death in shelters. Please adopt and save a life!

The puppies in the front of the store need to be removed from "Art's" care ASAP! They are in desperate need of a vet's care. Two of four dogs were sleeping in their own urine; one dog was eating another dog??s feces while employees looked on. The cages are dirty, the dogs are thin, and one dog has an obvious skin disorder. They are not being walked and are getting too big/old to be considered puppies anymore. I was appalled by the conditions in this store! Who can we contact to help these poor puppies?!

The kittens in there look so thin, dirty, and unhealthy! I wanted to take them all home. The fish tanks all looked dirty too. Other then that the staff seems nice and the other animal cages seemed clean. But the poor kitties just longed for some attention!

Art's Animals is a front for Puppy Mills. The paperwork you are given is not accurate. Try and find the "breeder" the paper work lists. They sell puppies that are sick. They don't even know the true health of their pets. They lie and do not care about the well-being of the animals they sell. It's a business right Art? Who cares about what you sell. You're only in it for the money right?
My puppy only lived to be 4.5 months old.

I gave it one star ONLY because you have to give a rating

They should be shut down. They get their puppies from puppy mills and although they look healthy, they are not. They also guarantee that the puppies come with a microchip but that also is a lie

Art's Animals and Supplies is located in MacDade Plaza, Holmes, PA. I have bought various types of fish from Art's and have been very satisfied with the price and friendly service. I also have purchased other supplies for my fish tank. I would recommend Arts to anyone.

I bought my rabbit Snowflake at Art's the Friday after Easter 2007. He was healthy, out-going and very responsive to people. He is not my first bunny, but he is the absolute best behaved and most intelligent and communicative rabbit that I have owned.

They did a great job helping me get the right things to help him feel at home and they were more than happy to let me pick him up, play with and hold him to insure we were a good match. They even discounted a few things that I could not afford right then just to insure he would be happy and have all that he needed to start his new life. They care a great deal about the animals they sell as well as the customers who are buying them.

I have been to other pet stores only to be told I could not pet, touch or even put my hands in the cage to see whether the animals had a good temperment or were full of life and healthy, which I consider to be very bad business. Especially when you are considering bringing an animal into your home.

My mother has had great experiences with Art's in the past with her tropical fish and her pond Koi, some of which are now 8 years old.

My only criticism is that you can never get through to them on the phone because it is always busy.

Art's Aniamls has a nice selection of pets, ranging from kittens to fish to turtles to pets and a range of other animals. They take great care of the pets. I especially like their selection of kittens. I have bought two kittens through Arts, and so did my sister. All three of the cats have been healthy, even-tempered, and we had no probelsm with sickness of any kind. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and very helpful. If you're in the market for a pet, Art's should definitely be on you list of places to look. They also have a good selection of pet supplies, toys, food, and other pet care items.
