Fantastic service, delicious food, and chic atmosphere- what else could you as for?
Happy hour is one of the best- ? off drinks & $3 beers (plus free chips- the best chips ever!)
The location is also great- close enough but far enough away from the craziness of Uptown.
Great for a romantic evening or a large gathering of friends.
I?ll be back!!!

Pros: Style, Drinks, & Service

Food was excellent and inventive without being "too-too". Service was also excellent. Atmosphere is chic, quiet. Lovely for romantic dinner, super for business dinner because you can HEAR!

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner! The host at Five was really flexable about where we sat and since we really liked the bar space we ate our dinner there. We sat at the high curvy table which made it fun to people watch. Our waitress did a nice job of directing us towards some new drinks to try, making our evening more festive. The menu is set up with a few favorites marked with a "5", this made ordering easy. We ordered the Pork Tenderloin and the Lamb Loin which were both excellent and I would highly recommend trying.
I am excited to go back to try the $15 tasting menu

The night started at the bar with a bartender that was looking up drinks in a book. He could not make a cosmo. It should have tipped us off. A ten dollar drink that was terrible. The place was empty, no one eating dinner. What has happened to the place. It was great the first time we went there, but this was just average. The short ribs were very good. The talapia was so so. The music was terrible. We felt like we were in an office building, not a funky restaurant. Hope it improves, and you get the bus boy out of the bar.

Pros: food pretty good.

Cons: bartneder, ambience, so so service

Five has very nice ambiance, a knowledgeable wait staff, tasty food but I was not very impressed with the menu selections. The special for the night was seafood and, if memory serves, over half of the entree selections were fish/seafood leaving very little to choose from if you are not into that. Also, we had reservations for 6:30 pm on a Tuesday night, arrived at/around 6:25 and were not seated until 6:40 (the bistro was at half capacity). Besides those two gripes, we did enjoy ourselves and the food. Will wait to go back once they offer more red meat or poultry entrees.

I've eaten in the bistro numerous times and had the tasting menu the past two months. The food in the bistro is fantastic (the best in the city!), but you truly realize the chef's genius (and why he's received such national accolade) when you have the tasting menu. My favorite from each time: last month there was a lobster salad topped with a chipotle pineapple sorbet and then a lobster bisque that's finished with a bitter cocoa powder was poured around the lobster. This month there's a rich duck confit wrapped in a banana leaf, served on red quinoa with a rhubarb chutney and a curry sauce. I could go on and on and on with superlatives but I can only use 150 words! And I didn't even get to talk about the bistro! You have to eat here, both the bistro and the fine dining room, now!

We went on a slow night, and surprisingly were seated right next to other diners (why?). The food was indeed excellent, very creative and definitely set apart from typical midwest 'conservative/bland' fare. However, for the price of the food, I'd likely not return for another year or so, unless of course it's on my expense account.

For as much as we spent, we didn't expect to be sitting on top of the other diners! While the food was amazing, the experience was ruined because of too many tables in too small of a space. How uncomfortable is it to have a nice, rather expensive dinner while listening to EVERY WORD at the next table????

If they'd not be so greedy and eliminate a couple of tables, this would be an incredible dining experience.

The service was attentive, but our server had NO CLUE when asked specific questions on the food.

The old police precinct was beautifully redone. Great bar to have a few cocktails and hang outmy dining experience was exceptional. Everyone at the table (12 of us and were all picky) was elated with our appetizers and entrees.
