Homeowner:

It's been 1 1/2 year since we had our shutters installed by P&J.
Extremely disappointed in the quality of product.
The cheap plastic hooks that hold the shutters together always break. I've replaced at least 15 of them and I still have 10 more to go. They keep breaking. I've called several times and each time they cut me off and ask me how many more do I need.

My previous home I never had 1 broken hook so I know it's not the way I open them.

Frustrating that I paid so much for such poor quality materials.

i am a real homeowner, not a competitor of this business. I had shutters placed in my home, and am delighted by both service and quality of the shutters. I give 5 stars because the work that was done for me deserves this rating. Since I am an actual customer, I am happy to validate what I am saying

Subj: Vinyl Shutter Install...Richard G.....Invoice #43043

To: Frank Charles Spencer IV...RMO/CEO/PRESIDENT

Matthew Everett Carlton...OFFICER

Dear Mr Spencer

Today, September 21, 2010 installation was completed on a single shutter I purchased for my handicapped son's room...the "on sale" vinyl shutter measures 4' X 6'.... the shutters that were currently in this window were wood shutters that opened completely in four sections on hinges allowing access to the window that is opened with a crank handle at the bottom....they became damaged over the years and I was unable to find an individual or company to repair them.. I virtually had no idea that the new replacement shutters that I purchased from P & J was ONE, large 4' x 6" panel that has no way of opening or providing access to the crank handle. My son is used to opening and closing his window DAILY...I had to bend and remove a couple of the slats and use a high speed Dremel tool and bit to hollow out a large area of the frame so that the crank could go around...there is virtually slight to NO room to get a hand under the shutter slats to use the crank to open the window....I cannot believe such a window could even be manufactured like this....the window is large and heavy to remove by one person single handedly...the salesman (Russell Morris) that came to our home never explained that this is what we would be getting..he should have known full well that installing this shutter would not allow for the operation of the window behind it..this is what he does for a living..this shutter should be mounted ONLY against a window that was NEVER meant to be opened....this shutter is a complete and utter waste of our money...

Even the installer never explained how to remove this monstrosity....left my son's bedroom floor covered with installation debris...and left the whole area that the previous shutters were mounted in, with the surrounding molding now gone...with gouged out drywall, nail holes, etc..I can't believe this install... under the circumstances, the installer should have had a matching molding to go around the outside of the newly installed shutters to hide all the mess after the original molding was removed...this has got to be the worst $406 I've ever spent with a contractor ever....and quote, this was advertised as a 50% off sale!!

I guess I'll have to live with this horrific mistake...but, I will post a horrible review on Yahoo and any other consumer review sites I can find to go along with the many other 1 star reviews that are continuing to mount against P & J Custom Window Coverings for poor products and installation.

I saw the ad in one of the flyers that I received in the mail. Thus, I decided to give P&J Custom Windown Coverings a call for an estimate shutters for 3 windows. The salesman that came to measure my windows was pleasant. Unfortunately, this is the only positive comment that I can say about this company. The first time the company attempted to fit the shutters , 2 of the 3 windows were incorrectly measured, so they had to send those back. At this time, I paid them the amount for the shutter that correctly fitted my window. The staff who installed my shutter assured me that I will get a call from the company when the shutters were ready and they apologized for the inconvience. Six weeks go by and I don't hear from them. Then 8 weeks pass. Therefore, I decided to give the company a call to check on the status of my shutters. The customer service representative was not very helpful. She said that they will call me when they are ready. I attempted to explain to her that it was P&J's mistake in the first place that resulted in my having to wait for my shutters. The customer service agent did not offer an apology nor did she sympathize with my situation. Rather, she offered an excuse, stating that they were manufactured in China and did not a way in checking overseas on the status of my shutters. But again, I was reasured that I would receive a call from the company when the shutters were shipped. Well, I wanted an answer and asked to speak to a manager. The customer service representative refused to transfer my call to a manager. I then asked who were the owners or president of the company so I may contact them directly. She refused as well. I then informed her that I will contact the Better Business Bureau. Five minutes later, I receive a call from the "manager" of the company stating that the issue has been resolved and the shutters were being shipped in 1 week. When I finally get my shutters installed, one of them was again the wrong size, and the installer who attempted to make the shutter fit my window decided to cut it and damaged the shutter . I was so upset. The company then wanted the full price for the shutters - $1200. I refused to pay this amount because I didn't think it was fair to pay full price for a very visible damaged product! They sent it to collections. I explained to the bill collector that I was not going to pay the full amount and explained my situation. I negotiated with the bill collector by paying half (since the other shutter was fine) and the company can call me directly to replace the damaged shutter before I will pay them the full price. I paid the $600. The company never attempted any communication with me after receiving the $600 to replace my damaged shutter . Poor Service. In retrospect, I should have chosen well-known names such as Home Depot, Lowes, or other well-known companies.

I don't complain...typically. I had blinds cut by P&J after we needed them altered. Thet told me 7-9 days for cutting. I am now calling them one month later and they tell me they are still in production. Apparently, they are lost as they cannot give me a completion time and we are now going on 6 weeks. Very poor customer service.

I wanted to spruce up my place with something to brighten up the living room. At the same time, I wanted to keep the hot sun out during the summer heat. I found P&J in a magazine and called them to explain my situation. They told me they had exactly what I was looking for and to come in to look at it. They had a special shade for the window and a great fabric for the curtains. It looks fabulous and the house is much cooler in the summer. Thanks P&J.
