You get what you pay for food wise. I got the taco asada and I could have gotten something 100 times better at Baha Fresh for the same price. To top it off there was an aggressive manager tonight who ignored the dirty tables. Cheap beer/drinks and teenagers is all they have going on for them.

This restaurant was good. I first read the reviews and said I need to go find out for myself. When I first got there the workers were very friendly. They took our order quickly and gave us the delicious food in a timely manner. I immediately knocked out the bad reviews that it received from other people. To me this restaurant's food was very good, classy, and nice environment. You can sit outside or inside. They are also with El Cholo from Pasadena, if you are looking for more of a elegant dining then go to El Cholo where the food is incredibly good. Dona Rosa was also excellent. No complaints here.

I mean, Doa Rosa isn't that great. But the other reviews here make it sound like they're killing kittens in the back! It's not that bad. It's relatively authentic Mexican & Cuban food where the salsa is good and the breads are hand-made.

The big problem with the place is that the food varies wildly. And the more popular dishes at other restaurants are the worst ones here. Try the al-pastor or chorizo tortas, with the salsa quemada. (Warning: the tortas get a little sloppy.) Since they make their own bread, you should try some. But avoid the chicken, the ham, and the burritos.

Yeah, they ain't winning any awards for cheapness or for service, but, really, if you order the right thing, it's not that bad.

I love Mexican food, so when Dona Rosa opened a year or so back, I had to check it out. I ordered a breakfast burrito and got the shock of my life. I started eating the burrito and it tasted kind of gritty. After a few bites I realized the only thing that could be was DIRT. There was spinach in the burrito and they didn't clean it properly! I looked more closely at the disgusting burrito and found a big pocket of oil cupped in the tail end of the thing. At that point I almost hurled. I NEVER... and I mean NEVER... return food I'm not happy with. This burrito was so revolting I made an exception.

PROS: None
CONS: disgusting food

I'm not a picky eater. Hell, I'll even eat Del Taco's 33 cent tacos on Tuesday nights. Dona Rosa gives you the impression that you're going to get high quality, delicious Mexican fare. It's a popular place, but I would think the food should be so much better than it is.

For around $8 you might pick up a smallish torta with a miserly scoop of toothbreaking tortilla chips. I'm a huge fan of salsa bars with their intriguing and complex aromas. The salsas are uninspiring and lacking in the flavor that even a mainstream joint like Baja Fresh delivers.

The meats are good, if a bit overseasoned. Someone once told me that Dona Rosa is more expensive than other places because their foods are really authentic. Well, I've been to Mexico and I can tell you that the roadside carne asadas you can get on every street corner are far more tender and tasty than what you get here.

The wait is unbearable... which would be just fine if the pay off was spectacular. But the food isn't all that for the price. Next time, I'll just go to Chipotle or Rubio's and get a really filling and tasty meal for a lot less money.

This restaurant was okay when it first opened, but NOW.... Just try to get an order from Dona Rosa in which something isn't wrong.
We used to go there occasionally but we realized that every time the food, predictability and service got a little worse. Finally, we stopped going there.
Last night we were out with friends and decided to try them again because it was convenient before a movie. We hoped that maybe they had gotten their act together and were willing to give them another chance. Big mistake!

We all ordered our food at the counter as it is not a full service restaurant. We had a long wait for our food and when it arrived, here is what we got vs. what we ordered: I ordered two sopes a la carte. One with pinto beans and one with shredded beef & pinto beans. NO SOUR CREAM or ONIONS on either. (approx $8.50 w/ tax.) They brought me one that had black beans, stewed meat and onions and one with carne asada and onions - no beans. Both had sour cream poured all over the top of them. At first I said, "You must have brought me someone else's order." "No, she answered "this is for table #5." One of our friends ordered two carnitas soft tacos a la carte and an order of black beans. (approx. $8.00) She got a carnitas plate with pinto beans and rice, no tortillas. My husband ordered a chicken plate with rice and beans. (approx. $9.00) He got 2 chicken soft tacos a la carte. Our other friend ordered a chicken burrito (approx. $7.00) and got a chicken burrito. Unfortunately, the chicken was dry and chalky, he said.
The ordeal of getting our food order corrected wasn't easy either. You have to go up to the counter each time as there is no table service for ordering. I watched from the counter as the guy in the open kitchen scraped out the filling from my, now cold, sope and put in the "almost" correct ingredients and topped it with a big squirt of SOUR CREAM! CURUMBA!!!
(word count keeps me from writing about dessert at Dona Rosa which is NOT recommended)

PROS: unfortunately, none
CONS: low quality food, utter confusion
