Tucked into a charming brick building downhill from Pike Place Market is a superb collection of spices from around the globe. Your nose is tantalized with elusive scents like cardamom, juniper berry, allspice, and so much more. Browse the extensive collection of spices, samples of which are presented in glass jars on rows of shelves. World Spices offers scores of different herbs and spices, plus many delectable blends just right for barbecue, stir-fries or curries, or turning a slab of tofu into a crispy piece of heaven.

As you go, jot down how much you want of each thing on a handy little card. Then take your card up to the front counter to have your order filled, including grinding your spices fresh for you if you want them ground. If you have a larger order, they will write down your cell phone number and give you a call when your order is close to ready, if you want to walk around for a bit while they're grinding.

A great experience for anyone who loves to cook, eat, or just smell exotic scents from around the world.

World Merchants carries a wide selection of spices, herbs and teas that I have ever seen. Their herbs are freshly harvested and they offer so many varieties to choose from. Their spices and teas are no different. They can even mix special blends for you according to your tastes. The staff is very knowledgeable too. They can help you make a selection and tell you the differences between the different flavors and smells.
