My father received rehabilitation at Healthsouth Plano and we had a wonderful experience. The staff was kind and helped us find a new normal for my dad and our family. Dr Colon was wonderful and very caring and attentive to my fathers needs, We received excellent training on how to care for him and my father regained his independence. We owe so much to Healthsouth Plano and we will forever remember the true guardians that lifted us in a difficult time. We would recommend this hospital to any family that needs rehabilitation.

My experience at HealthSouth Plano has been nothing but positive. I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews after my Dad was admitted here for stroke rehab, but they were not validated by the care and service we received! I also realized that many of them are very, very old and no longer relevant.

From the nurses, to the physical therapists and case managers, we received world class care. I didn't worry about my Dad when I couldn't be there, because I knew he was in good hands.

A few things stood out that made me know this place is special: Dad has very specific dietary needs, and a staff member actually left, went to a local market and brought back food that was appropriate for him when the cafeteria didn't have it.

Dad also had a special "angel" that came to visit him a few times a week to check in, see how things were going and just chat about life for a few minutes.

I hope that we never need services like this again, but if we do, we are definitely coming back to HealthSouth.

My father is entering this facility today. After reading the reviews, I am very scared. He is 300 miles away, and I was on the phone with the staff at the hospital for ages before we could find a rehab center that would take him. He is only suppose to be there for a week or 2 to get strong enough to be in another rehab center, but after reading the reviews I am afraid he will actually decline rather than improve. I will keep an eye on it and have him moved if I see any sign of neglect, exploitation, or abuse.

TERRIBLE facility. They stole my mother's clothes and didn't seem to care either. They didn't address a open, oozing sore on her shoulder. We asked on 6 different occasions over 2 days and nothing was done. They catheterized her for no apparent reason other than laziness on their part. She was not getting all her required medicines. I am currently working diligently to get her out of this hell hole. The only thing I can say is that it is clean and most of the people were nice even if inept, lazy and apparently untrustworthy. Is it asking too much for basic humane care and treatment? This is the second "rehab" hospital that has done poorly by my mother. It galls me to have Medicare and private insurance pay for such poor treatment. I will be complaining to the top authorities and agencies. This has to stop.

I'm actually really shocked that this facility does not have more horrible reviews. The only decent thing I have to say is how kind and helpful the physical therapists and the weekend "entertainment" person (Betty, I think), were to us.
The rest of this facility should be cited for neglect, and every staff member should have to stay for a full week as a patient. Apparently, these animals have never been taught common decency-and what's even worse is that they appear to have no medical training. I should have asked for the credentials on every person that touched my mother during the 10 days she was in their care.
I was at the pathetic place every day while my Mother was there and had to do everything, and tell them how to care for a patient. I won't go into all the gory details, but trust me and your own eyes-visit this place before you even let them take care of your dog.
I had to have my Mother removed from there last night after she continued to get worse-she is now back in the hospital and it will take some time before we can get her back to where she was before she went in.
I beg you-tour any facility before you let a loved one be placed there-but as far as this one goes...trust me, RUN!
Every other bad review I read on this site was EXACTLY what we experienced. Good luck to you in finding a proper medical facility.

I would not suggest this rehab center to anyone. My mother was admitted only 6 days ago. She was ambulatory. She could move around on her own. She could feed herself. Tonight I went to visit and she was confined to a wheelchair for the first time since admission. I asked if she could stand up & move about on her own and they said no. I asked her to get out of the wheelchair for me
and she couldn't. The nurse said whenever she has to go to the bathroom they have to lift her from the wheelchair to the toilet. This is all new since yesterday. No one called me to let me know of her change in mobility. They had forced her to a wheelchair in the morning (for safety reasons) She hadn't fallen. She just looked unsteady on her feet. After being put in the wheelchair in the morning she was never taken to rehab all day. She was never encouraged to move her legs or get out of the wheelchair for 8 hours. She cannot stand up now. We put her in there for rehab to walk a little faster rather than shuffling. And in 6 days they took away her ability to stand and walk. They took her legs away.

She is now being transferred to a skilled nursing unit. A very old one. I pray that she will walk again. I would like to consult someone that cares and can get answers as to why she was treated so poorly but don't know how. Would I contact a lawyer?

Important word of advice! Go tour the rehabs in the area because if you tour Health South and get an accurate picture of services instead of the marketing on the website etc. you will choose another rehab! There a couple of others in the area like Twin Creeks in Allen or Integra etc. Health South won't tell you that their patient to nurse ratios are very high (around 12:1), ALL rooms are two patients each so no private rooms and the facility is old and depressing looking. HS is a big corporation so bottom line is get them in get them out! If you have to drive 10 or 15 extra minutes to go to a facility that is personable, friendly, new and nice looking and offers great MD's and rehab go look for yourself and remember it's worth it! Hope this helps!

I have all my faith in the therapists at HealthSouth Plano Texas. After 10 days of hard work on my part, their knowledge and patience, I was released in great shape. I found I needed some help after another surgery so I was admitted to HealthSouth again. They did NOT disappoint me. After 8 days, I was strong enough and confident enough to head for home. I have good insurance so I never received a bill. Nurses were excellent. If I ever have to have more rehab, you can bet I will be going back to HealthSouth. I recommend them for all rehab needs. From stroke therapy to strength rehab after surgery, they are great.

They treat the employees terribly. The administration cuts employee hours to nil. Not even paying attention to the nurse patient ratio so they can get a large bonus check at the end of the year. They're doing major budget cuts and it shows. When families call at night no one answers the phone. When I complained of trying to call my mothers nurse 3 times with no answer no one seemed to care. I tried to speak to the Chief Nursing Officer but his door was repeatedly closed with no answer the several times I knocked. Its like a ghost town in this place. All of the staff looks unhappy and is constantly complaining.

The kitchen never has the food the patients are requesting. You basically have to eat whatever is in front of you.
The therapy staff is wonderful but you only see them for a little while.
Don't send your loved ones to this cheap place where the money is not spent to help the patients.

My husband was a patient there after multiple injuries due to a skiing accident. He is a very cognitive with it young man yet he was treated like an invalid. He was left alone on the toilet for 1/2 hour. He was repeatedly brought the wrong pain meds or not enough per the MD orders. Doctor ordered equipment was ignored and the bed he was in was broken possing a liability for both husband and hospital yet after 5 days nothing was fixed. Too many other good options in Plano to stop here.

I've had my mother in HealthSouth and other rehab facilities. It's not a bad place, but typical in that you can't entrust your loved ones to any facility or staff without exercising a lot of oversight. I had to chase nurses to change mom's dressings, to give medicine as needed, and to watch for poor doctoring; some of the doctors are really lazy and/or incompetent, which is about par for all rehab and nursing homes. But HealthSouth is clean and I met some really nice rehab therapists.

If you can spend a lot of money without any questioning, then this place is not bad actually. My aunt went to this hospital for her treatment. The doctors there are really good and polite. They give special attention to you and make you feel special by their articulate communication. The only drawback is that there are a lot of hidden charges and fees.

I visisted this facitlity just once for treatment. The physical therapist was very good. However since my insurance wasn't going to cover my treatment at this facility I moved to another facility. On my visit here I was charged $160. That was fine no complaints. After about 3 months I received another bill from them stating that $40 was outstanding on my account. No fee break up was given. They should have told upfront about the cost but didn't. I wouldn't reccomend this place for anyone.

PROS: Good Doctors
CONS: No upfront indication of treatment charges
