I have never had the desire to rate or give a public opinion on my children's doctor until I read the review shown here written by L.P. I know everyone is entitlled to their opinion but I CANNOT in good conscience not dispute her view of the doctor who not only provided care for me when I wa a child but has also been caring for my children for over 10 years. Dr. Steven E.Caplan is by far the BEST pediatrician in Maryland. He goes above and beyond for his patients and parents alike. He calls you during after hours to check on the progress of your sick child. In 2008, I myself did not have any insurance but I had found a lump and was very scared. I did not have a doctor of my own but was in his office for my kids. After learning of my home situation, he HELPED me by paying for me to have some tests done to determine if I had cancer. Now, you tell me he is not a compassionate doctor. I could go on and on about Dr.Caplan but there is only so much room to make an review. However, I will say that Dr.Caplan's office is a wonderful place to take your children. He and his staff care about the ENTIRE family and today that is rare.

As a mom of 3, I have to say how much I love and cherish my relationship with Dr. Caplan and all of his office staff. Of course, I may be biased- especially since Dr. Caplan was my pediatrician too! Nothing beats the care and attention that Dr. Caplan gives to his patients, young and old alike. I want to give potential new patients just a taste of the care we have gotten from this office. When our youngest was born and I was nursing her, I had horrible allergies- but I couldn't take prescription meds because they all seemed unsafe for nursing mothers. Dr. Caplan actually found my own patient chart (from over 20 years ago!!) reviewed it, and wrote me a prescription for safe allergy meds!
Recently, I was living overseas and I broke my daughter's nebulizer. I was terrified that we might have an asthma attack and wouldn't be able to give our daughter her albuterol! No worries- I was Facebook friends with the nurse in the office. I sent her a message and she immediately sent a reply from Dr. Caplan. My husband was able to ship me a safe non-electrical replacement for delivery of albuterol.
I love, love, love this Doctor- and you will too!

As a little girl I forgot how much I did not really like Dr. Caplan. My brother was also a patient of his and my parents always had a hard time getting along with Dr. Caplan. Its been years later and I made the wrong choice to bring my daughter to Dr. Caplan. He saw her from birth to 14 months and now we are switching practices. His office staff is good and he is knowledgable but he is very condescending and if you disagree with him, he gets offended and upset. When he is the Dr. on-call for after hours, he makes it seem like you are wasting his time and his solution to everuthing is bring the child to the office. He loves money and he likes to keep bring a child in for appointments and follow-ups. We lived about 30 minutes aways and everytime we came to the office he always say that our child is doing great or he gives a simple solution that he could have given over the phone. He only spends time and listens to parents concerns when its a routine visit and even then he is very dry and clinical. Overall I am not pleased with Dr. Caplan and I am now in the process of finding another pediatrician for my child.

I have 2 sons one is 21 years old and the other one is 4 yrs old. Dr. Caplan has been my oldest son doctor since he was about 6 years old. Dr. Caplan is very knowledgable and professional physician. When I had my youngest in August of 2005 the staff nurse asked me do I have a pediatrician for my newborn I told her Dr. Steven Caplan the very next morning he came to my room to examine my newborn. I was very, very impressed so needless to say he gets 6 stars from my family and I.

Thank you Dr. Caplan

Dr. Caplan has been my son's doctor since his birth. He's caring and efficient with just enough humor to put both the patient and parent at ease. He's proactive with your child's health instead of trying to fix the problem afterward. My son is not happy that since he's turning 19 this year he will leaving Dr. Caplans care.Aleta Bryant

Dr. Caplan cares about your child and issues affecting them. He is very knowledgeble and respected in his field. His personality can be a little dry and clinical -- if you are not comfortable with that reconsider using him. His staff includes not only another MD, and CRNP but also a certified Lactation Consultant - a good thing for new nursing mothers. You can usually get same day appointments and if not next day ones. His office is located on the Sinai Hospital campus, beware, parking can be a bear there.
