I moved to Dallas and was given Dr. Speath (Skrivanek) name for a Ped- from my OBGYN. But move to another Dr. after six months. I had numerous questionable interactions with her nurse and herself. I think she is VERY knowledgeable-however her bedside manner is less than I like. It started with a visit with my daughter for an ear infection, where after the exam was over. I left the room within aprox. 5 minutes. However that was not fast enough for her-(I was 7.5 months pregnant at the time + a sick 2.5 year old in hand). She made a cold comment if something was wrong-what was the problem in leaving? I was so taken back at the time! I didn't even react to the question. I didn't realize she commenting that I was talking too long. (Her office was NOT busy-nor were her rooms filled with waiting patents. I might have understood more if so.) Granted, I didn't look that pregnant, but I would still think that she wouldn't comment in the way she did. I did also notice that she does OVER medicate. And did change dosage (for my 4 week old) once she left the room-different that what we had talked about in the exam. Leaving her nurse On-the-Spot when I noticed, and Out-of-the-loop when questioned.
I believe Dr. Speath can change her mind. But, 1. inform your nurse and 2. come in to inform the parent that you HAVE changed your mind and WHY. Seems like a common courtesy...
This is only a few of 3 more issues I had with her. It was easier to move to another practice even though I was informed that she was pregnant, and might gain a "different" perspective.
Too late.

I have to agree with the negative review of Dr. Scrivanek. She was not my pediatrician at Baylor ( I had Becker) but I had her three times for sick visits. On each visit she ordered invasive tests that I feel were unnecessary (a urine catheter and blood tests for a thirteen month old with a cough) or prescribed medicines my children didn't need (a series of steroid asthma medications for a child that turned out not to have asthma). Perhaps it is because she is a relatively new doctor, or because (I assume) she doesn't have children of her own, but her chronic over-reaction, combined with what I agree is a cold and rough manner, made me leave Baylor Pediatric. I just couldn't risk getting her for an emergency visit, and frankly couldn't trust a practice that would employ her. Now we are with Dr. Agrawal at PGV and are very happy.

I am also surprised by the negative review. Dr. Skrivanek has always been great with my son who is now 8 years old and has been seeing her since he was 6. A year ago he had a severe ear infection and ear drum rupture that eventually led to a brief hospitalization. Dr. Skrivanek called us several times each day at home on the weekends to check on his progress. I was so impressed at her bedside manner and have always found her to be great in the office. She isn't overly friendly, but has never been cold or abrasive. She is GREAT with children and very knowledgeable. I have also always been pleased with her staff.

I was surprised to see the other review of Dr. Stephanie. My two sons have been very well taken care of by this caring physician. She spent a good deal of time on one visit with m 8 yr. old explaining (in his terms) what his illness was all about and why he needed to follow through with her instructions. When we needed an emergency visit for a potential broken bone, her staff was helpful and got us right in. I would recommend her without hesitation.

I no longer see Dr. Skrivanek at Baylor Pediatrics. As a new patient, the doctor was not very friendly. This may be my personal opinion as a new mom but she treated my daughter in a rough manner. She was knowledgeable, without a doubt but doctors should have some personal skills. Her behavior was coupled with her extremely rude staff. After one visit, I searched for another doctor in the same office since there are many.
