Fishing with Captain Shack on the Doghouse was the best experience I have ever had on a charter boat ever. I fish all over the country and this is this the classiest outfit that I have fished with. I have traveled to Guatemala, Costa Rica and many other places and have not found this level of professionalism anywhere. The first mate was knew what he was doing and made our fishing trip a pleasure. After experiencing the Outter Banks I know now that I do not need to leave the states to have a first class sport fishing trip. Thank you guys. Ben Nickles

This is an addition to the terrible trip aboard the Dog House on 9/23/10. It has just come to my attention that Capt. Britton was in contact with other fishing boat Captains when the cabin door got locked and BOTH SETS OF KEYS were in the cabin. They others offered suggestions, tools, and were willing to meet up with the Dog House and assist in getting into the locked cabin. Capt. Britton choose not to get any assistance and we could not get to food, water, bathroom, or LIFE JACKETS (Good thing we did not need them!!) or (other fishing gear we were rigged for Marlin, other boats were killing mahi mahi a short distance away!!! and we could not get into that action!! ) until we got back to the dock! Upon reaching the dock, another boat Captain came over with tools and was able to get into the hatch on the front deck of the boat in about 2 minutes!!
Captain Britton needs to think more about his clients having a safe, enjoyable, and productive day rather than, just looking to get paid at the end of the trip!!! Which he was charging anyone who wanted to pay with a credit card an extra $48 to use their card!! What kind of crap is that!! This extra charge was not mentioned before the trip started!!

I would not recommend this Boat to any one!!

Six of us went out with Captain Britton and Mate Lee on September 23, 2010. The experience is one I would not wish on anyone! After going about 2 hours and 40 miles out we accidentally locked the cabin door. Both Captain Britton and Mate Lee left their keys inside. Mate Lee made an attempt to enter via the back hatch but could push open the cabin hatch since a garbage can or something was on top of it. Captain Britton tried to remove the door latch for a few minutes but had no success. Mate Lee was quick to note that we were not going to have much to eat or drink for awhile (about 9 hours ). He also wanted to know who locked the door (like that mattered). From about 7am to 4pm we had no water, food, life jackets or bathroom. Periodically Mate Lee would remind us how cool it was inside the cabin. Outside temperature was about 80 degrees. Our group included my father (73 years old), my daughter (15 years old), and a friend who had prostate surgery a couple years back. Luckily my daughter was able to go 9 hours without the use of a bathroom. Two of the men needed to use a gallon jug to relieve themselves. At about 1pm Captain Britton and Mate Lee had something to eat/drink up top but offered nothing to the rest of us. Captain Britton did not come down from up top until the trip was over and he wanted to collect his $1600 fee and the Mates tip. Not once did he come down from his deck to ask how everyone was doing. We did bring 3 white marlin to the boat. One was on deck but the mate dropped it off the side and was quick to blame us for not grabbing the tail. For the last 4 hours the marlins stopped hitting but we could not go after Mahi-Mahi which were hitting like crazy because the other gear was inside. When we got back into the harbor another boat captain on the dock heard our plight and within 5 minutes went through a hatch on the bow of the boat and into the cabin! He had a small screw driver or something. The boat seemed well equipped and the mate knowledgeable but both captain and mate showed no compassion or concern about the ware fare of their clients. Cabin keys should be in your pocket, break a door window, make a call to shore and have relief in a couple hours. Anything to show that clients come first.

This is the best boat and captain on the OBX. I had to write this review based on the review written by a person that does not have a clue about the changes in weather that happens on the OBX. Things change instantly on the OBX. I suggest you never book a charter with any boat if you are not ready to be cancelled at the last minute. I am glad to see the captain was looking after the safety of his clients instead of making them happy. Good job Captain.
If you want to catch fish and have the nicest captain and mate around, then this is your boat. Go Doghouse!

Several friends and I were loking forward to a deepsea fishing trip at the outerbanks. We were travelling six hours the day before our reserved fishing tour. The owner called us when we were approximately an hour and half away to inform us their was a small craft advisory issued and we would not be able to go out. When he was asked why he did not call earlier, he stated our contact numbers were at his house. I wonder what kind of business are you running that you can not be considerate enough to call a travelling customer of acancellation. He offered to reschedule, however I refused. I will take a tour with a nother company.
