I hired Jeremy Rexinger, the owner of Red Rover Pet Care, to cat sit while I was away on a 3 week vacation. My cats are indoor/outdoor and pretty skittish, so Jeremy's role was largely to take care of the apartment and feeding as my neighbors, who my cats know well, would be looking after the cats directly. Jeremy was to come by and clean the litter box, sweep the floor around the litter, refill dry food, water, and put out wet food, water plants once a week and take in the mail. I also asked Jeremy to keep tabs on any signs of racoon activity by contacting me if food/water bowls were empty upon his arrival--this only happens when racoons come in and eat all the food. He said he would be coming by during the week and his assistant would come on weekends. I met with Jeremy and went over directly all the tasks, which he agreed to.

Here is the long list of items that Jeremy agreed to do but did not and/or jobs that were done poorly:
1) On the first night of my vacation I get a call from Jeremy explaining that my house keys (along with other clients keys) were left in his assistants car and had been stolen. He assured me that the keys were not traceable back to me since he hadn't marked them yet with my pets names. Nothing about his story rang true or honest for me--it's more likely that he had lost my keys after I gave them to him which also explains why he was so adamant that I didn't need to worry that the keys could be traced back to my house. I have to note that while I was discussing what to do with him on the phone, he was talking to his friends who were in the background while I was talking. He didn't really seem that bothered by the situation--at all.
2) Jeremy agreed to contact my neighbor and set up a time to pick up another key. My neighbor contacted me by mid-day the following day because she hadn't heard from him, so I set up the appointment for him. Again, zero sense that this is of any concern to Jeremy.
3) He agreed that he would make a copy of my key to give back to my neighbor so she still had a spare--he never did this. His assistant dropped off the key he had borrowed on his last day of visiting. When I talked to Jeremy about this, he said his assistant-the same one he blamed for the loss of my keys--had told him he had made a spare and returned it. So either the assistant is lying, or Jeremy is lying, or both.
4) My landlord needed to get into my apartment, and as Jeremy never made the spare for my neighbor, I asked him to unlatch the chain lock of the front door for the landlord to enter (the back door was a new lock, but the landlord had the key to the front door). Jeremy had two days before the visit of my landlord to unlatch the chain lock. He agreed to do this, but never did. My landlord had to cut through the chain to get in.
5) When I returned from my trip, at around 7:30 in the morning, all food and water bowls were completely empty. While I was on the phone with Jeremy during one of our many conversations to rectify the lost key, I had asked about any raccoon activity. He said that he hadn't seen anything. So either the morning I returned was a complete anomaly, or Jeremy, who my neighbors said they never saw come by, only his assistant, had no idea about empty food bowls and had not passed on that crucial piece of information to his assistant. My neighbors reported that my cats had been eating at their houses for much of the time I was away. Mr. Rexinger is a complete fail as a pet sitter.
When I returned I emailed Jeremy with my grievances and asked for some of my money back. Not only did he do a lousy job with other aspects I haven't listed here, I have had to replace all of my apartment locks and the front door chain lock. I received no reply to my email. He made no attempt to clarify or rectify the situation. His lack of a response completely matches my experience with him-HE JUST DOESN'T CARE.
What is most worrisome, is that pet sitting is based upon trust as your pets can't tell you whether or not that person is actually
doing the job he was paid to do. Your dog will be thrilled to see him, that doesn't mean he's an honest, good guy. Jeremy consistently lied to me. Guess that's why he works with animals--they can't tell you that he's not doing his job.

We have used Red Rover for many years now and our loving mutt Tiger just adores Jeremy and his staff! We have used them for all of Tigers needs which includes trail hikes during the week to tire him out, boarding while we're out of town (he gets so excited when we approach Jeremy's door step), and occasionally drop by visits when we want to have dinner in the city. Red Rover has made Tigers life so much fuller and ours as well! My husband and I would recommend Red Rover to anyone and everyone who would like to increase the well being our their fury companions!

My dog thinks Jeremy is the bomb. Jeremy walks our dog once a week and takes him in when we go on vacation. Although he comes back a little on the dirty side, we know he's been out having fun and making friends. Jeremy goes out of his way to make our pup feel special. We're so glad to have found him.

Jeremy and his team (Courtney, Jason, and Hollis) are wonderful! They all go the extra mile with our pets. When our adopted dog was having issues with separation anxiety, Jeremy would take the dog for the entire day. When we got our first dog a puppy, Jeremy would stop by to pick up our boxer for a walk and play & walk our pug puppy. Then he would take our boxer out for his group walk. He didn't charge us for the cuddle service for our pug. When our elderly cat passed away, we decided to add a kitten to our household. Again, Jeremy would take time out to visit with our kitten before taking the two dogs out.

Since we can't board our boxer in a kennel environment (absolutely freaks out), we are fortunate to have found Jeremy. Jeremy boards dogs in a home environment.

Jeremy has also been great at pointing out potential health issues that we might have missed or calling us to ask about things that might concern him. He's even contacted us while we were on vacation to ask about a growth he'd noticed on one of our dogs. He was willing to take our dog into the vet to have it checked out.

Jeremy and his team are an absolute jewel!

Jeremy has also cared for our other friends dogs and has given another friend's cat its insulin shots.

Our dogs absolutely LOVE their time with Jeremy and Courtney (we're on Courtney's route). We can always tell when either Jeremy or Courtney are here to pick up because of the excited, happy barking and tap dancing by the door.

Jeremy and his team work in Oakland, Berkeley, and Emeryville.

They also do the doggie baby sitting at the Montclair Farmer's Market on Sundays (during the warmer months).

PROS: Excellent, compassionate care. Great exercise for your pets.
CONS:
