I've been buying my home-brew coffee here for many years because they simply have the very best custom blends. Try their House Blend - it's one of the best coffees I've had anywhere. Although they can't tell you when it will be served, do not miss any opportunity to try their Mushroom Bisque soup - wowza!

Pros: Coffees, food specials, sweets/desserts

Cons: Parking

.

The coffee beans here are always freshly ground so the coffee is smooth. Not only do they serve lunch and dinner, but the tastiest pastries for breakfast.

I've been going to the Salt Lake Roasting Company for years. The coffee is outstanding, and if you want to take home a pound of something you've never tried before their selection is amazing. But be warned, the service is VERY slow and most of the staff is extremely impolite, some of them won't even make eye contact with you. It's unfortunate because if this place had better service it would be a real gem.

Pros: Great coffee and a relaxed atomosphere.

Cons: Awful service.

I've been here about five times, and that's it. I've never been treated in a remotely friendly manner by any of the employees I've dealt with... they have all seemed to come across like they're better than you... they smirk at each other, roll their eyes, give me strange looks. I have friends that say they don't have complaints, but I'm not going here anymore. Coffee Break up the street is known to be more pretentious, but I don't find their employees to be quite this bad.
Sorry, Salt Lake roasting, I like the relative quietness of the place, but some of your employees are too rude for me.

Pros: relatively quiet compared to some other coffee shops

Cons: heavy smugness from employees

.

A person used to could park on the street, right in front of the Roasting Company and cruise in to buy a cup or a pound. Now they could ride Trax.
The Roasting Company roasts their coffee beans to perfection - in house! The service is excellent. The choice of different coffees to purchase from all over the world makes drinking coffee at home an entirely different experience.
The owner, John, has the most impeccable manners and attention to service of any coffee shop I've ever been at to drink tea or coffee or chai, or even to have dinner.

Pros: Best coffee in town.

After arriving at Salt Lake Roasting Co., I took about 20 minutes to settle in and get started on my work before I was planning on getting up to buy my coffee and snack. The owner came up to me, interrupted my work and said "did you buy anything?" How rude! I can understand if I was here for hours or if this place was packed at the time but the place was close to empty.

On top of that, they have a $5.00 minimum to use a credit card. For a coffee house, i think this is a bit ridiculous, given that most drinks cost under $5.00 and many people don't carry cash.

I have been coming here for years and was coming daily for a period of time. I was very insulted by the owner's comments and will likely not come back here. The coffee is mediocre at best, although their cakes are pretty good

Bad service! $4.70 for a triple espresso and a fee for charging under $5.00. I can get a triple shot at Starbucks for $2.75 in less than 2 minutes with no added fees.

I love Salt Lake Roasting. I've been going there for years. They have delicious ciders, cocoas and fruit tarts. Their coffee is very good and my family members often buy bags of Salt Lake Roasting coffee beans to take home. This is the only coffee shop I know of in SLC that has two levels. I prefer the upstairs as it has bar style seating that is good for studying with a laptop.

Cons: No lounge furniture

While the Roasting Company is one of the oldest coffee shops in town, I suspect that the owners are losing their interest in the cafe because their coffees and teas just taste OLD. I once asked the barista if I could see the beans he was using (because the coffee tasted stale!) but he refused my request for sanitary reasons. They've gotta be OLD!

However, their food is actually not bad. Their quiche is a good choice for lunch, and if the cakes are fresh they are quite good as well.

Go there for lunch, but have the OLD coffee or tea at your own risk.

free internet if you have an airport laptop, lots of tables, sometimes live jazz music, plus they carry Japanese green tea-- genmiaicha is the best!

Better than Starbucks, but really nothing special. I thought $4.50 for an ice blended mocha was a bit high too....

When you can smell the coffee roasting from 4 blocks away in the city you already know how good the coffee is going to be. As if things can't get better, just try the food. You can find your next french press or espresso cups here too. Everything you need. I love this Coffee House.

SL Roasting Co's coffee is very very light and can only be taken out of the cafe in a 7 Eleven Styrofoam cup. As a Seattle Native I was disappointed to find such a quick tacky fix for a drink that has become an art.

Pros: Great Pastries, Trendy Atmosphere

Cons: Kids running counter, light coffee, tacky travel cups

.

Its basic and direct to the point; coffee and a slice of a pie or flan. The setting is nice and lots of students head there for studying and socializing, although I think the lights are a bit dim. The service is incredible; beautiful courtes smiles all over the counter and everybody knows what to do exactly.
A hint for guys; a good place to meet women and if you bring in a date there after dinner, she'll like it.

The only complain, unfortunately, is that in their way to encourge local talent, the SLRC hires local musicians some nigts to play live. Sometimes its good, but mostly, they'd force me to go home early.

I love this place!

SLRC's coffee is of the highest quality. Hard to beat anywhere in the US or Europe. Custom roasts and hand selected estate beans set it appart from the masses.

Coffee is not the only decadence they have to offer. Their cakes and pasteries are devine. My wife and I especially like to sit down to a fruit flan and a cup of the daily special.

The atmosphere is quaint and enjoyable. European coffee house meets Utah mountain culture. The clientel are as interesting as the roasters and antique scale displayed in the lower dining area.

While living out of State, my wife and I would make special trips while in Utah to visit SLRC. It is by far one of our favorite cafes in the US.

SLRC is a great place to study, read or just kick back and people watch. The variety of coffee is incredible, and the refills are cheap too. I would definitely reccommend SLRC to anybody who truly enjoys coffee and would like to try some interesting blends.

I love the food at Salt Lake Roasting Company. I don't even drink coffee, but I love to go there for dinner - there's always something new on the menu. Don't be afraid to try one of their unique dishes because you'll be pleasantly surprised. It also has good coffee shop ambiance and would be a great place to stick around and read or study - unfortunatley, their chairs are so uncomfortable that I can never stay very long! Also, I think they're beautiful desserts are not as tasty as they look.

SLCR is the best local roaster I have found of the various cities I have lived in. (never lived in Seattle) I usually buy a pound of whole beans... and have been satisfied with all varieties, especially their mocha/java blend, their Ethiopian Sidamo (Yrgacheffe) and the house blend among others. Have found only one other place that offers a Yrgacheffe of comparable quality and that was mail order. Barista service also very good... never a bad espresso.
