I had my first date with my husband here and we go back for dinner all the time because the food is so good! Almost every time we come we get the crab quesadilla and barbacoa and share because both are wonderful. This is a little more upscale for Mexican and is a go to place for us when we have people in town and want to go to dinner. It does get busy so there may be a wait but, there is a good bar area so just get a margarita and wait for your table because the food is well worth it!

I love Cantina. This is usually our go to for birthdays, celebrations, etc. Love the table made guacamole and the food is awesome. Not to mention the drinks... But it's an awesome atomosphere and always a fun crowd. Definitely one of Charlotte's best.

food is ok -- typical americanized tex mex. Way overpriced. We got the fandito and it was terrible. Pasturzed cheese overf pinaple. It's not good and not close to being mexican. Save your $ and don't go here.

their food is authentic. they do a good job with the flavors and mixing experiences. the best thing about our experience was that we did not have an upset stomach after the meal, to me that means that their food is really fresh.

My boyfriend and I had dinner here a few days ago. I love Mexican food, and Cantina just did not do it for either one of us. We were excited about the gaucamole alive, but were let down after the 1st chip. It took forever for the person to come out and then the person was all sweaty and it just wasn't appealing.
I had the shrimp tacos which were ok, kind of flavor less, just like the salsa, and my boyfriend had some enchiladas that, well, for lack of a better phrase kept him up all night after our movie date...

I hope this helps, but over all, rude hostess, short wait staff, syrupy drinks, and flavorless food. I doubt we will be going back. Over priced and over rated.

I have eaten at Cantina a few times and have always enjoyed the food it a great choice when looking for god Mexican food at a middle of the road price. I highly recommend their freshly made guacamole just be careful not to fill up on it before your main meal arrives. \r
\r
While the food is great the service is sometimes slow, I have had excellent service but also some very poor service. Either way the food out weighs the sometimes spotty service.\r

Although a little pricy for Mexican, the meals are excellent. The food is fresh and the combinations of ingredients mesh together nicely. This is not your average Mexican food since each meal has a unique spin. We enjoy eating here and would definitely recommend it.

I couldn't agree more with other customers saying that this is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've tried. I'm the typical picky eater, but have been pleased with EVERY dish I've had. I've only visited the East Blvd location, but each time all of the staff were friendly & had no problems with the ordering, etc. There is, however a longer wait that I would like on Thurs - Sat, but hey, I'm sure the owner loves that problem. They deserve to be this busy. Really great food, great atmosphere! You should try it yourself.

Cantina 1511 was such an amazing surprise. If you go in expecting the typical fare you get in most chain Mexican restaurants, swimming in grease and cheese, you will be disappointed. The food was truly authentic Mexican cuisine, the same as I have experienced in Mexico City and other trips to the country. We went to the Ballantyne location but I'm sure the Dilworth location is equally as good. The guacamole was as fresh as you can get it - prepared right in front of you at the table. I had the Tacos al Pastore. The combination of the super tender pork, pineapple and habanero sauce was simply to die for. I ordered it on a flour tortilla but after a discussion with the manager, he recommended next time to order on a soft corn for another unique taste. We were going to skip dessert because we were so full and had asked for the check. To our surprise, a complimentary piece of the Nutella cake was given to us. Definitely worth the extra calories. The staff, from the hostess, waiter to the manager were top notch - all experts in customer service and so very accomodating. I only wish I remembered their names to give them proper credit. The only negative thing I can say was the wait time is pretty long. And that's not even a negative - it's an indication of the great food you can expect.

Pros: Excellent service, authentic high quality food

Cons: Waiting time (but to be expected with good food)

I should say upfront that I have high expectations of Mexican food, but that often the simplest taqueria meets them. That being said:

The good: Cantina is a nice occasion spot to meet friends for a drink. Upscale decor, nice (but usually a bit too crowded bar after work and weekends) bar area, and has outdoor seating. The chips and salsa are good, as is the table-side guac. Very good drinks. Unlike others, I've had good experiences with the service here.

The less so: the food is very mediocre and sometimes not very good. I've had tacos that were inedibly dry and some fish that smelled and tasted past it's prime. The rest has been fine, just not notable. I have friends who swear by some items that I've not tried- like the enchiladas- so I could need to keep trying, but I've tried more than half a dozen times. I kind of think that Mexican food should be better for the upscale prices. Last, and probably least, the parking can be a zoo and if you park in the wrong spot, prepare to have your car booted!

I think Charlotte has room for a much better upscale Mexican and I'd be so excited to see someone open one.

I've been to this restaurant too many times to count. Absolutely love it. Great food and margaritas every time. The guacamole they make at your table is excellent. It's a large restaurant and can very nicely accommodate large parties. They also have an outside dining area with music which is nice on a warm summer night.

Just been to Cantina 1511 after having heard some good things. The area we sat in was nice and cosy. The food tasted great. The service was good and we will definitely be going back. We had the steak quesadilla and the Barbaroa de Percoa (or something like that) - it was mexican barbecue pork with rice and beans, shredded cheese, salad, guacamole and pico de gallo - very yummy. I saved some for later too!

A girlfriend and I ate at Cantina last friday night. The experience was ok. We did not have a reservation and knew that there would be a wait, we come here often and it is always busy, so this was not unusual. We were told by a woman at the front door that our wait would be about an hour. Drinks were recieved at the bar by a very kind and patient blonde bartender, and we moved to have a seat at a high top table. Soon after we sat down a dark haired girl asked if we would like chips and salsa and we oblidged. As soon as our drinks got low she asked if she could get us another round. Bar service was very prompt and efficient. After an hour and fifteen minutes had passed I went to the front and asked how much longer and the woman up front with long brown hair shortly responded that they were busy and they would get us seated when they could. Another ten minutes passed and the waitress in the bar seemed to notice our frustration and let us know we were able to recieve full service in the bar. We decided to stay in the bar because the waitress(Mary I think?) was very kind and positive. I ordered Pollo Lareda and it came out raw. I order it often so I know it was probably an honest mistake. Our server was very apologetic and insisted on getting me a new one. I told her i would just have the pork plate my friend was having instead. She smiled and apologized again and i had my new food within five minutes. She assured us she would have a manager speak with us. Shortly after the rude girl from the front door appeared at our table. She made a very brief appearance asking if everything tasted good, we said yes, and she said ""sorry about the chicken"" and walked away. Overall the service staff was excellent and aside from the mistake with my Pollo Lareda, the food was wonderful as well. Perhaps you should reevaluate your management staff, or at least instruct them on how to deal with customers in a hospitable way.\r

Fresh, flavorful Mexican food in a convenient location. Parking can be tricky on busy weekends though. The patio is charming, and the guacamole is wonderful. A great addition to the Central Charlotte restaurant scene!

My husband and I just had a very positive dining experience at Cantina 1315! I was a little apprehensive after reading all of the ""bad"" reviews but our experience couldn't have been better. The waiter was attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. We wanted something authentic and asked him to choose for us. The food was excellent, the guacamole was the best I have ever had, and the mojito a delight. What a delightful experience. We would recommend it to all.

After reading reviews we were worried that service would be bad, especially since the parking lot was quite full when we arrived. However, there were absolutely no problems with service for us (perhaps because it was Sunday night.) I can't speak for the authenticity of the food, but it tasted really good, and was out quickly. The server was knowledgeable about what was better between A or B (always ask your server to find out how good the service is!) Drinks were nothing to write home about but I can't understand why people needed to send them back. Pretty impressive tequila list.

I've been to Cantina twice, and both times, the bad service far outweighed the good food. The first time I went with a friend, and we sat outside on the patio. After our meal, we were having a drink when the waiter came up and asked us to leave our table because people were waiting. I was horrified at his rudeness and vowed to never go back. Several months later, I went again, this time with friends on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered a pitcher of sangria. When the bill came, it was significantly higher than the menu price for the sangria. We notified our waitress, and then we overheard her saying to another staff member, ""Yeah, they saw the price on the menu. We need to change it."" It seemed as though they were intentionally overcharging us, but since we caught them, they had to change it back. Never again!

The Mexican food is great. It's not tex-mex so don't think it's going to compare to some of the fast food food burritos places around town. This is much better. This restaurant is also a bit upscale so you may prefer to leave the kids at home. People are usually dressed nice and out of for a nice dinner. A great selection of authentic Mexican dishes.PROS: Taste of the food and bar area (Get a margaritte pitcher)CONS: A little expensive and greasy (authentic mexican is a little greasy)

I dine at the Cantina in Stonecrest at Ballantyne and I love this place! I eat here several times a month. The wait staff is always very friendly and the wait is never as long as they say it is. There is also a great call ahead feature! Only problem is that often times my tacos are extremely greasy. When I get the food to-go it is often to grease soaked to eat by the time I get home.

Try the homemade guacamole!

This is the 3rd time that I have been to Cantina and I finally felt compelled to write a review. My wife loves to go here because of the Guacamole dip, but this time it was unbearable. The service is awful, whether you are waiting in the bar or on your food. It takes a while for the server to come to you and then you wait for an appetizer , but our dinners came out about 5 minutes later so you cannot enjoy the appetizer and my wife's order was wrong. It was also funny to see many of the tables around us having problems as well. Overall the food was good and the wait was not bad, but the service is terrible and hopefully they will fix all of the problems.

Is Cantina like having tex-mex in San Antonio? No, but it is always solid and consistant. I go 2-3 times a month because the food is good and the prices fair. Even if i'm not in the mood for anything there is always something on the menu that catches my eye. Don't go in expecting traditional mexican food b/c they don't really have it, what they have is flavorful Tex-Mex and they do a great job at it.

This is a great place for Mexican with a twist. Not the average food, salsa or anything else that we have come to have to eat here in Charlotte that is called Mexican. This place is anything but average. The food is wonderful and the best guacamole that I've had since Cabo- its very pricey but worth it! The staff is just ok-not exactly friendly but it is very busy most of the time. I think that the kitchen staff needs help as they are SLOW SLOW SLOW; We go often and the wait to get our food is way to long. If you get an app then tell them to still put your order in or they hold it a bit. Really great food but YES expensive compared to avg Mexican.

I am not usually somone who writes on these kind of sites, but my experience at Cantina 1511 was so amazing I could not resist. I went there this Saturday evening and and had the time of my life. I went with about three other girlfriends for dinner. Our service was excellent, they were constantly filling our drinks and chips. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. The food tasted incredible, and being someone who really is not a fan of mexican food, this means a lot. The portions were very generous, I think we all were carrying to go boxes at the end of the night. The manager was very friendly, going from table to table making sure everything was alright and making light conversation with the guests. After dinner we ended up spending most of our evening in the bar, because the atmospere was so much fun. There was music and a good crowd. I will be going back again this weekend, and I will be recommending this restaurant to all my relatives and friends. \r

I went to Cantina 1511 on East Blvd. here in Charlotte on Saturday night and have to say it was the worst dining experience I have had in my 27 years on this lovely earth. \r
\r
I was with a party with 6 other ladies and we had a reservation for 6pm. We sat around 6:20pm which they said was fine because we were still waiting for a couple of people. They kept mentioning how they had a reservation for another bigtop for 8pm and I guess they insisted on sitting at the table we were at? We did not request this special table (AKA The Fishbowl) but they sat 7 people who were having dinner and drinks there at 6:20pm expecting them to be out at 8pm.\r
\r
So as 8pm starts nearing, the very rude blonde manager kept prancing by our table glaring at us and checking his watch at the same, how trite. We finally mentioned to our waitress(I think her name was Terri and she was great and fabulous service!) how the manager treated us and how rude he was. He came to our table, tried to reiterate the point that he told us that there was another reservation for 8pm. We repeated told him how rude he was treating us and he insisted that he was right and since we were customers giving them business, paying for entrees and I am sure, overpriced alcoholic drinks, that we were wrong. To make it worse, the OWNER came over and pretty much treated us like we were teenagers at Denny's ordering water and splitting appetizers and telling us we were rude and wrong in this situation.\r
\r
All in all, I will never go to Cantina again. Or Mama Ricotta's, which is also owned by the Frank Scibelli. I have never been treated that poorly as a customer before and discourage anyone from giving their time or business to this audascious restaurant.\r

I have never been treated that poorly as a customer before and discourage anyone from giving their time or business to this audascious restaurant.\r

.

I went to this restaurant last night for the first time with a group of 6 people. We had a reservation for 6, but unfortunately, a couple of people were running late. The manager was extremely rude, and wanted to know where they were, and when we last talked to them. He then told us that we needed to be done and out of our table at 8. He'd walk by looking at his watch, and glaring at us, and then came over at 8 and told us we needed to leave. We were paying customers, had food, drinks and dessert, and we were treated VERY rudely. The Owner then came over, and made no excuses, and said that the Manager was in the right, and that we were told when we made reservations that there was another reservation....which we weren't. The Owner and Manager of this restaurant obviously to do not want patrons there, and obviously do not know what customer service or Southern Hospitality are about. \r

I was impressed with the staff's menu and drink knowledge. Portions are generous and fresh. A female manager was visible interacting with guests and employees, and seemed very friendly. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

Very good guacamole- excellent in fact! I've been to Mexico many many times and they have the Baja style down. I think they have very good food but would not exactly call them traditional other than you get the salsa's and the same sounding meals..taco, burrito... They are though very pricey and the drinks are even more expensive (awesome martini's but watch out or a couple drinks are then way more than your food bill x 3 at least)\r
\r
I always go to the East location and have had pretty good experience and the staff is very friendly. I would say that the new BIG SCREEN is very obnoxious and really takes away from what little atmosphere they did have. They aren't just a bar so move the TV from the dinning room.

Pros: Good food, great staff

Cons: Very crowded, too pricey and big screen is terrible

This place is a sure winner every time....hoppin every night. Show up early on a Wednesday, they are sure to have a wait after 7:00pm. GREAT atmosphere, food, and staff. Very highly recommend!

Pros: you get every bit of what you pay for

Cons: crowd (be an early bird); but if you don't mind that it rocks

.

I've been on numerous occasions and have yet to be disappointed. Great place for big groups.. fun for drinks or for dinner. Can get very crowded on the weekends. Make a reservation.

Pros: Something different... great menu & atmosphere

Cons: Not a fan of the margaritas; can get crowded

Great drinks, good service although a bit enthusiastic for my taste. Food was a major disappointment. It was overpriced and had an uncanny resemblance to Chi-Chi's. If you are looking for frozen tasting entrees cooked in a microwave ""smothered"" with tasteless cheese this is the place for you. The table side preparation of the guacamole is a bit gimmicky but a nice option since it may be the only fresh ingredients in the restaurant.

This place is awesome! Excellent, professional service @ the Stonecrest location. The food is always fresh and very tasty. I've tried several things from the menu and have not yet been disappointed. And the other reviewers are right, do not miss the guacamole!

Great Food at Stonecrest location. Other reviewer above may have had a bad experience but then again, she might have been having a bad day. Service was good, sangria outstanding, desserts marvelous. Fantastic guacamole - do not miss this tasty morsel. Nicole and Suzanne made the experience pleasant by checking up on us and keeping the customers around us satisfied. You could tell that they care about the restaurant. Kudos to Cantina for a wonderful new addition to the southside.

I went with a girlfriend to the east blvd. location and had a nice dinner. My husband loves mexican food and we thought we would go try out the stonecreek location since we live nearby. We were very disappointed that there is NO quality control in their food. We were served chips that were soggy and greasy. (they were not cooked all the way) and had to wait 10mins before they can bring out a new serving of chips for us. I had ordered the chicken fajita and the chicken was SO DRY my it hurt my throat from swallowing. I tried to put more condiments to help out the dryness of the chicken but it didn't help. They need to focus on quality food control as well as better customer service. They would refill my husband's glass and not mine. We would have to ask for what ever we needed when and if you see a customer's glass half filled and you are there filling up someone's else glass then the ideal service is to fill everyone's glasses while you are there. Their customer service needs to be more polished and the food was VERY diappointing. I would avoid going to this location at STONECREEK. ++ TRUST ME I WAS NOT HAVING A BAD DAY ++ IT WAS A WONDERFUL DAY UNTIL I REACHED CANTINA RESTAURANT++ RESTAURANTS DO HAVE BAD DAYS TOO !! IT'S JUST REALITY ++ THE OTHER LOCATION SO MUCH MORE CARING AND FOOD QUALITY DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE++ I AM IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY AND THEY DO NEED FOOD QUALITY CONTROL ++THERE WAS NO MANAGER THERE UNTIL WE FINISHED OUR MEAL. EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO TELL THEIR EXPERIENCE AND WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT DAY. THE OTHER USER MAYBE RELATED TO THE RESTAURANT TO POINT FINGERS AT ME AND FOR ALL IT'S WORTH I WAS HAVING A WONDERFUL DAY EXPECTING A WONDERFUL MEAL AND IT DID NOT HAPPEN++ NOTHING MORE TO IT. RESTAURANTS HAVE FAULTS AND THEY JUST NEED TO STAY ON TOP OF THEIR WEAKNESS.

You have got to try the guacamole! They make it infront of you so you know its fresh, and it tastes delicious!! (just need to add salt yourself) What I got wasn't all that good (the chimichanga), but what my friend had was! (enchilada). The presentation was very well presented, fairly big portion, great ambience. The table is spaced out great. The server couldn't be better, she tended to our every needs. Refilled the drinks when needed. Most rest. I been to have bad hosts for some reason. They don't greet you until you say something and this is one of them. Too bad it costs this much just for rice and beans and taco..etc.
