My son was 4 years old when he started and did not know how to swim what so ever. After 9 lessons (one session) he was swimming and I was just blown away. After taking a break, we are not on session 3 and I can't wait to see what's in store for him.

I would totally recommend this school for swimming lessons. one tip. If you plan on doing multiple sessions I would change instructor per session (9 lessons). Your child will benefit from it because every teacher has his or hers own style of teaching.

We're on instructor #3 and I recommend Rami...He is the best so far. Not that the other instructors are bad, they are all good but my son really connected with Rami and from what I've seen I feel Rami is the best. We will switch to a different instructor after this session. We are currently with Monica and my son loves her (he's now 5 years old).

I am an adult with an extreme water phobia. I almost drowned as a child but I've always wanted to overcome my fear so I decided to sign up for adult classes and was told the instructors "switched off" on nights for the adult classes. On my first night, the instructor was very "touchy-feely" with me, I didn't know if I was maybe over-reacting so I said nothing. This guy was the instructor of ALL the night classes so the instructors didn't "switch off" as I was told.
The next time I came in the instructor continued with his behavior and was very forward with me, even asking me on a date. He was pulling me across the pool as he did so and when I refused he let me go under the water. I started choking and got out of the pool to leave. He then followed me to my car and even went so far as to block me from entering my car and started acting very erratic. He said some pretty foul things, he even told me he was uncircumsized (what a pervert). I went home and the next day called the owners of the pool. They refused to give me a refund for my remaining lessons and since he was the only night time instructor they offered me no alternatives.
After I quit the school, the instructor went into the pool office and looked up my home address, and cell phone number. He sent me harrassing texts until I changed my number. He probably would have come to my house but I live a good 40 min. away.
This place was a nightmare and I would NEVER bring a child there.

We are current students at Aitken's Swim School. Our children LOVE it! Our daughter, 5.5, is quickly becoming familiar with a variety of swim strokes. She views a pool as a fun place to be. Our son, 3, is also picking up swim techniques quickly. We have Christy, and our kids love her. She knows when to push them and when to back off. She has a wonderful rapport with children. It is obvious she has swim knowledge and an understanding of different childhood characteristics. We also have to opportunity to watch other instructors while we are there. Andrew, Lisa, and Kerry also posses a true love of teaching and a highly proficient skill of understanding how young children work.

I would HIGHLY recommend this school to everyone!

Pros: Great teachers! Good value. Domed for protection during the winter, flaps up in summer.

Cons: Parking in neighborhood can get tight at times.

our kids have been swimming at PSS for over a year now. the teachers and staff are very nice and we've seen such an improvement in the kid's swimming.

Peninsula Swim School is conducted in a pool covered by a big canvas hangar. This is nice because it enables year-round lessons without exposing your child to the harse outdoor elements. Still, it isn't exactly toasty warm in the Hangar on cold or windy days, so I recommend keeping a big towel with you to dry off your little one as soon as he or she gets out of the water (which is kept at a nice warm temperature).

The instrutors at Peninsula are pretty good. For the most part they are in their twenties and seem to enjoy being around the kids. What they lack in child development expertise, they seem to make up for with enthusiasm and a fun attitude.

I realize that a pool filled with infants and toddlers all day is going to need to be pretty highly treated. Still, Peninsula's water always seems a little over chlorinated. I suppose better too much than too little, but definitely plan for an extra 5 minutes after class to rinse your child off in the shower provided in the heated dressing room.

My son went here when he was almost 4, but he didn't make much progress in the 16 weeks he was there. We found out later that he had gross motor delays, so it might have been that. He enjoyed it for the most part, but after the second session just decided that he didn't want to go back. That said, I would recommend it - you can have a free trial class to see if it works for you.
