I'd seen so many good reviews on Citysearch and other pages, I called for an estimate on a heat pump (while the tax credits are still good). We got a great price, the installers were courteous, clean and took the time to explain the new thermostat to me (important to a woman). I was surprised to see bad reviews on this site, my experience was very positive. The heat pump works great and I'm looking forward to savings over the next year.

In April of 2007 I scheduled 6 air conditioner installers to come out and give me bids to install an a/c unit. Three of the vendors were VERY close in price. Seth, owner/manager of America's Best was my sales person. He told me that I could get $200 off if I paid in cash. He also had a flier that said I could choose a new thermostat or a $150 debit card. I chose the debit card. When the installers came I asked for my debit card and they said I'd have to get it from Seth. I called them many times in regards to the card and other installation problems (state and city permit issues). They sent out workers to fix the several issues that electrician, city and state inspectors had found, but avoided the debit card issue. I finally called one day and refused to hang up until I got an answer. I was told by Bobbie that the deal had expired with the a/c maker but since it was their fault that Seth had offered it they would give me a debit card out of their own pocket. It never came. I called several more times leaving messages and finally I was told by Jan, the office manager, that Seth changed his mind and they were not honoring the deal. The flier I have says nothing about an install date or that it was coming from another company. I would not have chosen them if I had all data before hand. They would not have been the cheapest installer. I feel that the misrepresented themselves to get my business and now I'm out the $150. I am currently taking action against this company.

We recently contacted America's Best to come out to look at our gas furnace & gas hot water heater. The first time I made an appt America's Best completely dropped the ball and didn't show up. I understand things happen with scheduling sometimes so I went ahead & made another appt. This time the serviceman was very late. I called the company to confirm someone was coming out & they said he had an emergency service but would still be out. It would have been nice if they had called me to let me know this. Anyway, the serviceman shows up later and is unfamiliar with gas hwheaters. He uses his cell phone to call his company for advice on servicing the heater. I describe the problem: hot water is running out faster than usual. He tests the hot water and says we are lucky to have it hot as long as we do. Then he tells us the hot/cold control dial for the shower is probably the problem. I ask him about defective dip tube problem I read about online. Between the years 1993-97 lots of manufacturers were using the same plastic dip tube. He thinks this is unlikely because the hwheater was installed in 2001 (when we bought the house). After he left I did some more researching on hwheaters and found out that the 1st 4 digits of the serial # are the month & yr it was manufactured. In our case it was Jan 1994 and probably is a defective dip tube. I would expect a repairman to be trained to recognize this. He tests our furnace and vaccuums our filter because he said he didn't have any new filters in his van. He charges us $100.00 and leaves. The serviceman was nice but I am disappointed with America's Best for sending out someone who seemed so inexperienced.
