Mac

I've bought a lot of products over the past 25 years. They are friendly and helpful. The woman is a relatively (at least three years) new hire. She has learned on the job and you can't hold that gainst her. The tech guy is really knowledgeable. They treat me well, even if I just come in to kick the tires. Usually they don't try to BS me if they are out of their depth. I would rather deal with them than with the 'geniuses' at the Apple store.

I've bought many things at this store over the years because it is so close to my house. This includes computers, scanners, iPods and software. As far as the service, it really depends on who you get. It seems like three people work there (as of Spring '09) - the Asian guy, who I'm pretty sure is the owner; a female, who is nice and a nerdy overweight tech guy who should not be in sales at all. He acts like he doesn't want to be there and is sure he knows more than you do. I guess the store is so small he has to work the counter. He should be in back doing the tech stuff all the time.
Otherwise, I'm pleased with this store. Once I bought an off brand video display. I was displeased with it and after ONE MONTH they let me return it for a 10% restocking charge, which I think is very fair.

I hate the M.A.C. store in Berkeley. They were snobby, wouldn't take the time to answer my questions, and treated me as if I was dumb.

I will never go there again. The Apple store in Emeryville is MUCH better for people who love their Mac's but may not fully understand when things go wrong, how to fix them.

In 2002, I bought a Power Mac G4 directly from Apple. I found Apple's sales and technical reps inept and unreponsive -- even during the 90-day free-support period. A couple years ago, after seeing the MAC store's high customer ratinngs in "Bay Area Consumers' Checkbook," I bought a new hard drive and an operating-system upgrade at the MAC store. Later I bought a router at the MAC store to prevent system crashes due to my laser-printer connection. I found the MAC store's sales/tech reps very knowledgeable, expansive and helpful, always willing to answer my questions free over the phone -- both before and after I bought their products. One of their techs stepped me through the procedure for setting up my router over the phone. Over a year later, when my router required new settings after I upgraded my DSL connection, I brought the router into the MAC store, where a tech immediately adjusted it to the correct settings as I waited -- with no charge. I also appreciate their frankness and objectiviey; they don't push you always to upgrade to the latest Apple software version.

When I first came out here with my troublesome G4Cube, the people at M.A.C. tried to ...sell me a replacement. What I needed at the time was a new Maxtor Drive, but they couldn't figure that out right away. I recognize that it's their job to try to make money though...it's just mine to be miserly.
