I am from So CA who came to visit a friend of mine in Berkeley. With so many choices for lunch, we decided on Henry's. Both my friend and I have never eaten here. We learned that the place was just renovated and the chef is brand new. They've also changed their name to Henry's instead of Henry's Publick House. I don't blame them.

I liked the fact that you have a choice where to sit depending on your mood. The bigger room is of course the sports bar with new flat-panel TVs, bar and stools. The smaller room is a sunny room looking out into the street. The decor is elegant but not stiffling. There are some quirky touches such as a faux p0t leaf. After all, we're in Berkeley, right? Not to stereotype (ok, i will), but I can see how students would go the bar and the professors and grad students would go to the other room. Or vice-versa. Again, depending on one's mood.

We liked the food we ordered. My favorite was the S&G frites (Simon & Garfunkel fries, since it contains parsley, rosemary, sage and thyme..one of S&G's album names, for those too young to know). I would probably go back there and order those fries to-go everyday during the last days before going back to LA! The salad with the salmon was refreshing. The best part of course was the toffee dessert!

Since I am allergic to alcohol, I didn't order any but my friend did. She loved it although I didn't catch the name of the mixed drink. The only thing that I thought was odd was the shape of their capuccino cup. I am used to the swim-in-the-cup types. Theirs was a slender coffee cup half-filled with the espresso drink.

All in all, I enjoyed this restaurant. I felt like I could go Henry's and be rowdy and have fun with friends at the bar, or at other days have a nice brunch or lunch and eat at the sunny room by myself without feeling awkward. I guess that's what really clinched the 5 stars for me. Heck, I liked it so much I'll post another review on Yelp.

No Berkeley visit is complete without stopping Henry's for a drink. This is a favorite amongst students and alumni and a guaranteed spot for fun. If planning on going after a Cal football game, be prepared for a long wait to get in and standing room only. Go Bears!!!

Henry's is populated mainly by professors and local area professionals most of the week. That all changes come Tuesday night when Henry's has Twofer Tuesdays or 2 drinks for the price of one. This draws out the college students looking for a cheap drink and by closing time there is little to no elbow room. But a good time is still had by all.

This UC Berkeley sports pub has gone gastronomic; sophisticated pub grub with Carribean flavor make it a destination for food fans, too.
