Tulla's is OK, but for a 'Bayou Bar & Grill' it's been rather disappointing. Cajun food conjures up images of spicy (not necessarily hot, but spicy) offerings. Your mind drifts to Emeril Lagasse or Paul Prudhomme... but you end up with a Joe Fatala instead. For the most part the food is as uninspired as vanilla ice cream.

On the plus side, the food is all fresh. For example, when they say a side dish is corn ~ it's fresh off the cob that day, not taken out of a Sysco can. Probably the best dish on the menu is the andouie crusted fish, but the portion is small, especially in relation to the $20 price tag. All together, a beautiful building, but the service is slow and the menu is uninspired and overpriced. As you eat dinner you have the feeling you're being ripped off.

Of Tulla White's three downtown restaurants, I'd say Venucci's is best, Tulla's second, and The Basil Leaf is last. The latter is again, a beautiful building, but the menu is pedestrian and the service minimal.

My husband and I ate at Tullas in June 2007. He ordered the cajun rib eye and I ordered the salmon. Presentation of the food was excellent. The steak was cooked to perfection and was not overly seasoned with cajun spices. The salmon tasted very good, could have used a little more seasoning. The cornbread is to die for!!! Dessert was excellent. The staff were friendly; the setting was a laid back atmosphere.
