I went there after a Durham Bulls game last weekend. My friends just got engaged so we were ready to continue the celebration. We went inside Tyler's and got a round of drinks. Inside was pretty dead, so we went outside. We saw the tables in the front of the restaurant, but noticed there was a "please see hostess for seating" sign. My friend went inside and spoke to the hostess. The hostess said it was fine that we sat there. As we all started to sit down, a very rude waitress came over and told us we couldn't sit there unless we were eating dinner. We explained that we spoke to the hostess (she knew we just got drinks and wanted to sit down), but the rude waitress continued to tell us we couldn't sit there even though we told her someone else said we could. She said there was "first come, first serve" seating around the corner. So, we hung around until there was a free table. After sitting down for a few minutes (at a table with 5 dirty glasses), we decided that we were actually pretty hungry. I saw a waiter walking by, picking up stuff off the tables, so I asked him if we could see a menu. He said that "this section is closed" and if we wanted any service, we would have to go to the bar. EXCUSE ME! He didn't even offer to drop off a menu nor did he take the dirty glasses. He just took the condiments from the table. This was the worst experience I have ever had. I can't believe that they would treat anyone that way. Especially since the proximity to the Bulls Stadium... you would think they would welcome the business in an otherwise quiet area. Thanks Tyler's for ruining a great night for my friends that just got engaged. We are still outraged.

The menu had a good variety of options on it. Everything our group ordered tasted great! I LOVE the garlic fries!
Great beer selection.
Service was not amazing. Not terrible... but almost rude at times. Took FOREVER to get our bill.

Cons: slightly hidden location, service

Tyler's Taproom has a great selection of beers. The restaurant has several different areas, so even when it's crowded, it doesn't feel overwhelming.

But the food was not that good for the price. I had the beef brisket. It's described as "slow smoked." A properly cooked brisket gets tender, practically falls apart and is easy to cut with a fork. This one was not. The three slices were all tough and chewy. I had trouble cutting them with a knife. The baked beans were also on the tough side.

I ate at the outdoor bar. Apparently Tyler's has had problems with people walking off because their policy is to hold your credit card at the bar. When I was ready to pay up and leave, they brought me someone else's credit card. I'm glad I noticed.

Tyler's is a great place to have dinner and a beer with friends. It's also very kid friendly. Their fried mac and cheese bites are my daughter's favorite thing to eat from there. The pear salad is absolutely delicious (and huge)! They also have great fried pickles. On the brunch menu, my favorite is the monte cristo...it is so yummy! I highly recommend this place.

We went here with all our kids during the day and were very impressed with both the food and service. The burgers were AMAZING! Great desserts! The restaurant has a great location overlooking beautifully restored warehouses and various water features.

Tyler's is a great casual place to go for dinner or just hang out and have one of the MANY beers (all on tap!). There are also pool tables, dart boards, etc. so it's a great place to just hang out with friends.

The atmosphere and food is great for a night out just hangin with friends. You can let loose and enjoy a great burger. The sevice was not fast for us but we talked so much it did not matter. The location is great and prices are okay.

This is a great place to go and watch the game and just hang out. They have really great burgers and if you are a beer drinker they have lots of varieties.

Went for the first time before a Bull's game and had a great experience! It was a little loud, but the overall atmosphere was very warm and inviting. Looking around us everyone was having a good time including kids! That's right, kids! Tyler's is obviously very kid-friendly. I had the pork special and my husband had the carolina burger. Both were awesome! It was not a hard sell to get my husband to go with the variety of beers that they offer (all of which are served in their own glass!). I only wish we had one in Raleigh! I definitely recommend going if you haven't been before.

I would not recommend eating or working at Tyler's Taproom. Recently a manager was fired for not reporting to work on his one and only DAY OFF. He frequently worked 50 and 60+ work weeks over 10, 11, and sometimes 12 days straight and they paid him NEXT TO NOTHING. In fact, all of his hours added up might get him about $4.00 an hour. When he didn't answer his phone because he was enjoying his day off, he returned to work where he was fired on the spot. Basically these people deserve what they get and I hope it's bankruptcy!

Pros: can't think of any

Cons: lousy owners; bad management

Beautiful building. OK food. Toast the buns on the hamberger. Never serve cold buns!! The hamburger ain't got no flavor to it. The chips are good. I liked those a lot. The last time I got garlic fries and my OWN breath almost overcame me. That poor clerk at Food Lion, when I burped. Service was excellent.

To rate Tyler's on beer alone, it would most certainly deserve 5 stars (Tyler's has an outstanding number of foreign and domestic beers on tap), but this destination is let down by the poor quality of the food, which leads me to my average rating. My breakdown is as follows:

Beer selection: 5 stars (Belgian, US Microbrew, English ? you name it, its on tap)
Food: 1.5 stars (Reasonably priced, poor quality *** See comment below)
Service: 4 stars (Quick service)
Environment/Ambiance: 4 stars (A nice atmosphere in a renovated warehouse - loud when busy)
Facilities: 4 stars (A well equipped pool/games room adjacent to the main dining area, with a separate bar)

*** The food, the food. I visit Tyler's frequently for the beer alone, and steer clear of the food menu. Why? Well, it just does not taste good, the burgers are greasy, the pickle chips limp, French fries oily. I think that this is worrisome, because disappointed diners will stop frequenting the place, and as a consequence there is the danger that we will loose a potentially fine destination in the ATHD. The Tyler's cook/management should visit the Federal, to see how a bar can serve great beer and good quality food at the same time.

Make sure you order fries! The garlic fries are the best! The burgers are great, and so is the service. Beer selection is phenomenal. This is definately my favorite bar (especially to have dinner at).

I have never tried their resturant, but their "speakeasy" (beer bar) is a great place to go after work. You can shoot some pool, sit on their couches and listen to the juke box, and try some of their 60 beers on tap. They also have a huge selection of bottled beers to try.

I've been to Tyler's several times and while I love the selection and the atmosphere, the bartenders usually seem pretty snobby. It's nothing overtly snobby - they just act like they have more important things to do than serve you. It's a beer bar, not an upscale wine bar!

The speakeasy (back room) is a decent place to hang out, shoot some pool or play some Foos Ball. Sometimes it gets quite loud and crowded, especially right after a Bulls game. Lots of beer on tap. Beer selection spans the gamut from PBR/Miller Lite/etc to $20/bottle imports.
Food is ok though overpriced. Tables are ok, house cues are pretty rough. Nice big TV for watching game in the corner.
A decent place to hangout, but bring your own entertainment (i.e. group of friends).

I went to Tyler's for a basketball game during the NCAA tournament. Just before the game started we were informed that the back room had been rented out for a private party and that we would have to leave at a time that would occur before the end of the game.

I was a bit upset since no real efforts were made to accommodate us. We were told that we could move to the front of the house bar. We were understanding though since I am sure that the restaurant makes good money from a catered event. Without a fuss, with the promise that the TV would be tuned to the game when we changed our seats, we moved(we had arrived early to the back so that we could have seats).

When we arrived at the front bar the game was not on. I POLITELY asked a bartender to change the channel, with expressed urgency since it was midgame and in the last 10 minutes of a close game. He rebuffed me and said, "I will get to it when I can." Granted he was busy but the time that it would take him to fulfill my request was minimal and the urgency of changing the channel for an important game AT A BAR THAT INVITES PEOPLE TO WATCH SPORTS should be respected. He barely looked at me and dismissed my request as if I had asked him to do jumping jacks or a flip! What else could I do but wait for him to change the channel?

While I was complaining about the bartender to my friends a couple sitting beside us echoed our sentiments and relayed their encounter with the gentleman(I use the term loosely) and the ill treatment that they also received.

After the game was finished I asked to speak to the manager and relayed the details of the story to him. He was unapologetic and extremely rude. I had already paid my bill and had my jacket in hand so I was clearly not bucking for anything free. Now I know how that bartender can have such an attitude; it was the culture of service there.

I encourage you to spend your money at a place that values their customers and treats them with respect.

Pros: The wings were good

Cons: The treatment we received makes the Service, Atmosphere and Value a 0. Beers were pricey but the rent is certainly very high

The food is okay, but the garlic fries are great! The best part about this place is the great selection of beers from all over the place. And the bartenders know their stuff, so don't hesitate to ask them for a recommendation.

I've had several entree items that I wouldn't order again. BUT, several times I've sat at the bar on the main dining room side and had very good wings. Get them plain with hot sauce on the side. The other night we got the nachos and it was HUGE plate, loaded with meat and cheeses. The bartenders on the main dining room side have always been polite and knowledgable esp. Leigh and the girl that works Fri. nites. Also had the Philly Chicken s'wich which was good.

Prepare to wait a while for your food. When you get your food, don't expect it to be hot or tasty. Definitely don't get the burger. It tastes like mush and in fact so does the fries. If you must go, I'd recommend spending your money on beer instead.

I have eaten at Tyler's twice in the past couple of weeks, and I have to say it is now my favorite all around restaurant in the Triangle. The menu is unique and plentiful. There are lots of interesting appetizers. So far I have loved the "fried dill chips with ranch sauce" and the triple dip platter. For the main meal I guess I am not qualified to comment on the menu since I had the "triple cheese burger" on both visits. It is so good. I know its just a cheeseburger, but it is "to die for".

Sitting outside at Tylers is a great option. The outside are provide a great setting and a lot of activity. This whole scene is something that Durham has that Raleigh and Chapel Hill do not. I highly recommend Tylers! (Oh, the beer is great too!)

There is one waiter who is at best, surly. He is actually intimidating and rude. One evening my friend returned her fish meal because it tasted like "mud"(see first review!) and aforementioned watier did not take it off the bill. When asked to remove the meal from the bill the waiter took off half even though she had not eaten the meal. On one occasion I have actually had to negotiate with the waiter so that he would serve us, even though the hostess had allowed us to sit in his section. In the bar the beer selection is fabulous, but the service is slooow. The food I have eaten has been mediocre. Ultimately, however, the bar is a great place to drink because the space is large and inviting. Skip the food and do not be in any kind of hurry.

Tyler's is a welcome addition to Durham and the American Tobacco complex. It's a great afterwork bar and their beer selection is incredible. That said, I have one major complaint: the food is terrible and way overpriced for what you get. I recently had to send back an order of fish-n-chips because the fish smelled and tasted awful. Fries are usually under-cooked or cooked to death and the chips that come with the nachos and queso dip are usually stale. Pub food is such simple fare, but they seem to be struggling with these basic items. Until they work out the kinks in their kitchen, we'll be eating elsewhere before going to Tyler's to enjoy their huge draft beer selection.
