I have lived in No. Salinas for about 40 years, and have shopped at Safeway for a good part of that time. A few years ago I became disabled and need a wheelchair to get around now. Most of the time I use a credit card to make purchases as there is less problems fooling around with change. This afternoon I stopped in to get a loaf of frence bread. I spent 10 to 15 minutes trying to pay for it at the self check machine, with no success. I then got into a regular check out line and gave the cashier a 5 dollar bill as it was only one item. She gave me change which I stuck in my pocket. After I had loaded my wheel chair in my van, I got to thinking that I had only received 2 one dollar bills for change and I was shorted 51 cents. I unloaded my wheelchair again and went back into the store to explain the the manager what had happened. The girl at the flower table said the manager was gone for the day and the assistant manager was at lunch and would return in about 20 minutes. I told her that I didn't care to spend any more time than I had already spent for one loaf of bread and that I would forego the 51 cents. She said that I should have taken the change when it was given to me which I did and it consisted of ony 2 singles.
