I usually go to Rose's for breakfast - their breakfast menu is pretty standard but at reasonable prices. Their standout is their mouthwatering deserts - cakes, cookies, brownies, and a few pastries. Makes me hungry just thinking about it!!!

This place is a great place for casual dining, food and atmosphere is great. You have to try some of the baked goods, they are very good and huge portions for the price.

This restaurant fills the niche that was open in the Tanasbourne area for a little American diner. Good sandwiches, reasonable price, polite service - every time we've been there.

Pros: good food, budget friendly, polite service

Cons: can be noisy on Saturday when they are busy

So I ordered the item listed below. From their menu, on 09/27/08. This is a cut and paste from their on-line menu, that matches the store menu.

Ham & Cheddar
Thin-sliced Virginia ham grilled with
tomato and cheddar cheese. 8.49

The sandwich was presented at the table by the food expediter, who wasn't sure what the sandwich was, rather than by the bartender who took our order, no big deal, serve it hot, serve it fresh, I get that. I took a bite, and noticed that it did not have tomato as indicated by the menu (and the main reason I ordered the sandwich). So I flagged down the expediter (No bartender to be found) and asked about the tomatoes, he said, "Oh of course, let me take care of that" and took the plate back to the kitchen. The elusive bartender then returned with the "new" sandwich and told me, "next time order it with tomatoes if that is how you want it", WTF? It's on the menu!!! I have to order the item, and ingredients included? I mentioned this to the manager on the way out, and his response was "really"? as he walked away towards the bar.........sad.

I won't be back! I have been a Roses fan since moving to Oregon in 1985. I've been saddened by the shut-down of the original NW 23rd store, with the counter, the piano bar and the waitresses who could have been my grand ma ma, and excited by the reopening of even the mall shop in Washington Square.

You have lost a loyal customer, and trust me; I will spread the news, this is not the place to eat.

Farwell Roses, may you rest in peace.

Pros: None

Cons: Wait staff is arrogant and ignorant, what a great combination.

A little more upscale than other bakeries and delis. They seat you and take your order, but the menu is bigger and the pricing is about the same. They also have a counter where you can order and take away their delicious baked goods.

We showed up at 2 for Easter Brunch, and even though they were super busy, we were sat right away. Also, they had something I've never seen before at a Rose's- a holiday menu. I asked the server (who was cute and prompt and attentive) if they do this at all the Rose's, and she said yes, and they have one for Mother's Day. I ordered some skillet dish with poached eggs and hollandaise, and it was delish. It even came with a bagel. Last, I was pining for some "old New York", and even though they don't have it on their menu, they graciously made me a chocolate egg cream. I didn't try any desserts (too filling), but I might save room when I come back. Thank you for the surprise! You exceeded my expectations.

Pros: Good Parking, Adorable Server

Cons: Big room, heard conversation next table

I stopped by this place because I heard they had great reubans, and yes, that they did. But first I had to jump through some hoops to get what I came for. It took forever to even get seated on a weekday lunch, and then when I was the server never came until I asked for them about 15 minutes later, and then the drinks (a soda and a coffee) took about another 10 minutes, and then I got to order. I ordered a "New Yorker" which tasted great, kudos to the cooks, and the cooks only. We ordered dessert of course, which would have been great except our server brought us the wrong thing, how can you get a Tiramisu mixed up with a Cheesecake? Anyways, so we asked to speak to a supervisor about the whole experiance. So the server said "let me go grab Chelsea" who came out to speak to us, she looked about 15 years old, and didnt know how to treat us as guests AT ALL. WE CANNOT BELIVE HOW SHE ACTED TO US. She infuriated my husband and I, she didnt seem to care enough except to nod her head, and pretend she cared, and then saying, "if you dont like our service then dont come back". And THATS IT. WHAT?!? I dont know who put this child in charge of a large restaurant, but I never have seen anything like it. We left and we are sure not to come back. Until the management can secure ADULT "supervisors", then maybe we'll chance it.

I had Rose's for my 40th birthday luncheon. I enjoyed the best vegitarian sandwich EVER...and I'm not even a vegitarian! It tasted as good as it sounded on the menu. And, the prices were not that bad! Make sure you get an eclare to go....yummmmmy!!
